Machine embroidery

Wow, I’m just amazed. It already looks great.
Do you design the motifs yourself, or how should I imagine it—how does your machine embroider them? I’m not familiar with that.

Max and Gretl....

This is the first time I’ve heard of this technique, too. Your gingerbread men look great.
I googled it—there are some amazing things out there. But you need a special embroidery machine for that, right? I only have a regular hobby sewing machine.
The things people come up with. Thanks for sharing.

A Different Way to Crochet a Danish Heart

I found another, simpler version of this heart online. One part is worked in one piece. The second part is worked the same way. The shape looks kind of nicer.

Forest walk at Zabelstein in the Steigerwald

You still have so many leaves on the trees; here, everything is already bare.
So thank you so much for the wonderful fall photos. The picture with that root almost looks like an animal with lots of arms. All the pictures are very beautiful; I especially like the last one with the trees. I’m imagining it right now as a wall or door poster—it’s gorgeous.

a spider...

The spider’s pattern does look interesting, but taking a picture of it? No way. I have a phobia of spiders. As soon as I see one, I panic.
But thanks for sharing anyway. It looks pretty big—yuck.

Just one leaf...

That’s very kind of you, Ina. Yes, fall with its vibrant colors really is wonderful.
I also believe that the older you get, the more you notice those little things that bring you joy.
You somehow become more aware of nature—no matter how small the beetle or little flower may be. Some people even ruin that little bit of a “perfect” world, like with the fly agaric mushrooms. That’s annoying, especially since fly agaric mushrooms look so cute.

November Projects + October Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

You’ve all been so busy again. I don’t check in for 2 days, and then I can’t stop being amazed—such wonderful things
I’m taking a short crochet break; instead, I’ve dug out my beads again, a different kind of movement for my hands.

The Santa Claus looks really cute, I like him.

The autumn door wreath turned out beautifully; the autumn color of the wreath is of course amazing—it makes you look forward to autumn just by looking at it.

The crochet vest looks chic; which pattern from here is that, maybe? It looks elegant.

So everyone, keep crafting away, and I already wish you a relaxing autumn weekend.

Best wishes from Norway
Andrea

I’m glad you like it.
That makes me happy. Thanks, Monika.
Ina, I’m going to crochet on a little tie as well, then I’ll hang it up; I stuffed a little stuffing into the heart arches.
Your idea with the “embellished” milk bottle looks great. I’ll have to remember that.

I always love your knitting projects, but I can’t keep up with you all there.
It’s always lovely to admire your creations.

Winter is coming

It’s nasty out there today. For Norway, it’s normal for it to start as early as October.
I don’t really need snow just yet. But when the sun is shining and the white snow glistens so beautifully, then I like it.

I’d rather sit on my sofa and keep crocheting with my leftover yarn.

Enjoy the rest of your fall—sometimes I envy you guys with those temperatures. Oh well.

:-) Andrea

@Ina, thank you. I want to make a blanket out of the squares. You inspired me with your bobble baby blanket. I still have so much “neglected” yarn.

Your felt slippers also look great in those fall colors.
I’ve decided that when I’m back in Germany, I’ll order a pair of felt slippers from you in a girly color :-). My feet are always cold.

Do you like fall?

Oh, Ina, those are gorgeous fall photos from your garden—it looks so cozy there. There’s definitely plenty to see. It’s nice that you “took us along.”
I can’t offer you quite as much. We don’t really have gardens here—usually just a few flowers, a tree, and a hedge—that’s it.
I always love those gorgeous, colorful trees in the fall with their wonderfully vibrant hues. Unfortunately, almost all the leaves are gone now.
And they’re even forecasting sleet here for tomorrow—yes, you read that right. When the time comes, you’ll get the photo as proof.

What do you usually do while doing crafts?

No matter what I’m working on, the radio has to be on. I need music. I even listen to my hometown radio station here, so I’m well-informed. Everything just goes better with music; otherwise, it would be too quiet for me.
Except when I’m sewing on the sewing machine (which is rare at the moment) — then I sit in the kitchen by the window, where we have a small table and two chairs, and the cord reaches the nearby outlet, so I don’t need the radio there.

Ina, you’re doing it right. Your sunroom is a dream spot for crafts — you’re indoors, but still have a view of the greenery, and when the sun shines in, it’s perfect.

I’m working through my leftover yarn—unloved yarn, so to speak. The colors are so great, but I don’t like the yarn itself at all.
This was originally supposed to be a coronavirus, but I’ve now turned it into a Halloween monster. I still had the dress lying around.

That’s so sweet of all of you. Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. Yes, I had a lovely day, even if it was just the two of us.
I also received a little greeting from back home. The roses are from my sweetheart, along with some treats...

Thank you all so much. The corner-to-corner technique isn’t that hard once you get the hang of it. It’s really fun, and using variegated yarn creates the most beautiful striped patterns.

How do UFOs = unfinished objects / half-finished craft projects happen?

I have 7 or 8 UFOs right now. UFOs pile up very quickly.
I also work on several projects at the same time. Sometimes I don’t have the time, other times I just don’t feel like it, and then I find something cute and new among all the great pattern offers—which, of course, I have to try out first—so the “old” projects get left behind. Or the yarn I have isn’t enough for this project (I’m on a “yarn diet,” after all), so I start something else.
It’s a never-ending cycle, but I’m trying to finish these UFOs bit by bit.
At least, that’s what I’ve set out to do.

How's your yarn supply? Do you have enough yarn?

I still have enough yarn for small projects. For larger projects, though, things are looking a bit tight.
In December, I managed to stick to my “yarn diet” for a whole year, and I’m going to keep it up.

Buying a sewing machine: what should you keep in mind?

I’m pretty much a beginner when it comes to sewing machines.
I got a taste for it through my work program at Bad Kösen Plush Toys back then, because I was allowed to sew there on the company’s sewing machine.
After that, I bought one for home—a simple one (not too expensive, but not too cheap either). Until I ordered a new one here two years ago (the old one was broken and wouldn’t sew anymore).

I have a Si.... with a foot pedal, various stitch types (straight, zigzag), and a dial you can adjust (push in and pull out) to wind the bobbin. You can adjust the thread tension and stitch length.
I’d done some research online beforehand, watching videos to figure out which machine would be easy to use.
Mostly I just sew straight edges, sometimes hem something or make little doll clothes, and I sewed the top of my curtain to fit the rod.
A long time ago, I sewed myself a blouse from an old nightgown—even with buttonholes—because I wanted to try it out, and it worked.
There are different “presser feet,” but I haven’t figured out how to use them all yet. I haven’t done any sewing in a long time.
