a spider...

was just lowering itself down in front of my kitchen window, so I grabbed my camera, ran out into the yard, and took a picture

Now that’s an interesting specimen of a spider.

This species is very common around here, but please don’t ask me what kind it is—I have no idea. I just see them every now and then, whether in the yard or on a walk. As long as they stay outside, I don’t care, but I really don’t like them in the apartment.

I always say, “It doesn’t pay rent—so out it goes!” :)

@ CreatOwl, it’s a cross spider. When I tried to take another picture of it yesterday, it was gone because it started raining here. This morning, my husband and I watched it as it repaired its web. Now I was able to take a picture of it from the front, too, because it was sitting still and there was no wind. The first picture above shows the spider’s abdomen—I’ve never seen it like that before.

Somehow, these close-up shots are really fascinating...
I never would have thought a spider could have such beautiful colors. Maybe it’s just because I rarely look that closely.

The spider’s pattern does look interesting, but taking a picture of it? No way. I have a phobia of spiders. As soon as I see one, I panic.
But thanks for sharing anyway. It looks pretty big—yuck.

@Bastelfan, it really wasn’t that big; including its legs, it was about 2.5–3 cm. I’ve seen bigger ones around here.
