You’ve run out of yarn: what do you do?

Oh dear Josefa,
for us craft enthusiasts, it’s a nightmare. But I feel the same way as Ina.

Otherwise, I’d catch up on everything around the house that’s been left undone.
But since I also really enjoy painting/drawing, I’d distract myself with that. I also still have my beads and diamond painting.
There’s always something to do. Some little UFOs are also still waiting to be finished.
That way, the wait for the missing yarn is shortened.

January Projects 2022, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Handicraft Group

Thank you, Steffi, for your kind words. I’ll be off work again soon, and then I’ll devote myself entirely to crocheting—or whatever else I feel like doing.

Right now, I just want to go to bed; it was a tiring day at work today.

Have a great rest of the week, everyone. Warm regards from me

January Projects 2022, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Handicraft Group

Good evening at this late hour,

first of all, a big thank you for your feedback on the blanket.
Let’s see when it’ll be finished.

Oh Anja, that’s such a cute little clay figure. You could even make a cookie out of it with legs, arms, and a face.
I’ve still got some Fimo lying around (I wanted to try it out too), but that’s as far as it got. I’ve also got some silicone molds. The day only has 24 hours.
It used to be called Suralin.

Steffi, is it supposed to be a dragon? What a huge project. Hang in there. I’m looking forward to seeing the final result.
I didn’t even manage to finish my Bascetta star in time for Christmas. Too little time left.

Now I’ve started crocheting a triangular shawl from a gradient yarn cake; the ball has been sitting in the closet for over three years too.

I use every free minute for crafts when I get off work and am not too tired.

I hope you all have a relaxing weekend.
I’m on the early shift again.

Warm regards from me

Hi everyone,

I’m still alive, too. I got my booster shot on Wednesday—the doctor came to the nursing home because more people needed to be vaccinated.
My arm’s a little sore, but that’s it. My husband’s down with a fever, headache, and so on today.

You’ve all been so busy crafting again in the meantime—that’s great. Don’t be sad if I can’t respond to every single one of you.

I’ve been working on my CAL UFO blanket again. Too much of a good thing. Now my neck hurts.
And I tried a mosaic pattern (English video tutorial by Tinna Thorudottir). It’s sort of the English version of Petra Perle. It’s a lot of fun, but I’m taking a break from crocheting for now, unfortunately.

January Projects 2022 + December Projects 2021, Part 3: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

I managed to finish the Filzies for my dad just in time.
He was very happy with them. I only knitted the “Rolli” part onto them.
Personally, I wasn’t satisfied with the result—I hadn’t been able to get the right yarn and had to improvise with something else.

Thank you, Ina, for the Filzies.

So, dear all,
did you all get through the holidays okay? All that eating has to ease up now, but... it was always sooooo delicious.

I’ll check in again too. Wow, you’ve all been busy again in the meantime.

Marlene, your loop scarf looks interesting with those colors. Is that DF?

Monika, you knit like a world champion, and so fast. It definitely looks great already.

Anja, I always have to smile at your choice of words. You speak for all of us and enrich us with your humor.
Yes, the same thing happened to me recently with my EC PIN. Bang, everything gone—what now? I still had my Norwegian PIN in my head, and had hardly used the German PIN. So I tried some sh... and luckily it was right. It was still stored away in the “back of my mind” after all.

I have to deal with droopy eyelids too, but only on one eye; it’s still annoying—when I use mascara, you can hardly see it.
I guess we’re not getting any younger. Aren’t there some kind of tapes for that? Does anyone have a tip?

to everyone: thank you for liking my dolls.
I don’t know whether they were for twins; in any case, my colleague wanted two identical ones of these dolls, and he said they were very happy about them. So the work was worth it, but the hair was quite a time-consuming challenge.

Best regards
Andrea

I wish everyone here in the forum a peaceful Christmas—stay healthy, everyone!

Are you in the Christmas spirit?

Oh Petra, my deepest condolences. That’s so sad. Right before Christmas, too.
Someone also passed away the day before yesterday at the nursing home on our ward. He was such a sweet person, but when the heart just stops beating, that’s just how it is.

I’m only getting a little bit into the Christmas spirit because I put up some decorations—I need colorful lights. Other than that, I’m not doing much.
We don’t have a Christmas tree either. Never mind. The whole situation with “C.....a” has kind of taken away our joy for the holidays. We’re not allowed to do anything; everything’s been canceled.

At least there’s one small consolation—and I’m already looking forward to it—my kids want to come for Christmas and stay for three days. My brother wants to come too, but he’ll be staying at my parents’ house; otherwise, we’d be a bit cramped for space.

I ordered one of those mystery games—it’s sure to make for a fun Christmas Eve/game night.
I still have to bake some cookies, and as for dinner, I haven’t figured that out yet.

I wish you all a peaceful holiday season anyway—just make the best of it. Otherwise, buy some mulled wine and arm yourselves with knitting and crochet hooks and yarn.

Yours, Andrea

Hardworking little helpers: What are you working on?

I’m working on my dolls. One is finished, and I’m starting on the second one today. It definitely took me 4–5 days to make the wig. It’s exhausting and really slows me down.

Hopefully I’ll finish them before Christmas. They’re for a colleague’s nieces.

Just taking another quick look in here

Monika, you’re quick again. It’s amazing what you all have created in such a short time. I’m totally behind. But now I have 3 whole days off in a row, so I simply have to get something done, whether it’s needlework or baking cookies—we’ll see.

ruthk, your Christmas cards look absolutely great. I used to make things like that all the time, but right now I just don’t have the time for it.

First I need to finish up my orders, then hopefully I can make something for myself again.

Have a pleasant rest of the week, everyone. Kind regards, Andrea

December Projects 2021, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

hello late at night,

you’ve all been busy again. Compliments. You’ve made some very pretty things again.

Unfortunately, I can only pop in here now and then. With my late shift, I don’t get anything done.
I still have a doll crochet order to finish for a coworker. One little doll is almost finished, but crocheting the wig takes time. I still have to make a second little doll; whether I’ll manage that by Christmas, I have no idea.
Pictures will come later.

I also haven’t prepared anything for Christmas yet (baking cookies, Christmas roast, and so on). Somehow I’m running late this year.

Anja, I know that too, that “boom-boom music” from the car; they drive past here too. Smokers also live above us, and every time the cigarette butts end up on our balcony.
And next door you can hear every word, or dogs barking. We just have to live with that. Sometimes it seems louder to me, sometimes not.

Well, hopefully you all had a lovely 3rd Sunday of Advent.
Stay healthy, everyone, and see you around.

best wishes, Andrea

Thank you, Josefa—I wish the same for you.

Wishing you all a peaceful weekend as well.

Thanks, Steffi, now we know. But your “unlucky bird” still looks funny.

Man, you’re all so fast at crocheting/knitting. Your “patchwork blankets” are interesting. They’re a great way to use up leftover yarn.

First I have to finish the teddy bear I’m making on commission, and then crochet two more dolls for a coworker (I wonder if I’ll manage that by Christmas?)
I have the day off today, so I’ve got to get something done. Christmas is already in 23 days—oh my gosh.

Have a great day, everyone

What do you most enjoy working with right now?

Right now I’m crocheting a teddy bear, as always with cotton yarn—either thin cotton crochet yarn or Catania.
For the bobble yarn, it can be 50% cotton and 50% acrylic.

... Am I being too sensitive?

Good evening at this late hour,

you’re all not alone with this “distancing” problem and masks halfway down on people’s chins.
Unfortunately, I have to take public transportation (train and the bus in the evening).
The bus is often very crowded, but it’s manageable—everyone’s wearing masks and being disciplined. However, on the tram, there are often students or teenagers who harass people and don’t wear masks themselves. Sometimes it gets really below the belt.
No one’s given me any trouble yet, but it’s still annoying.
Because of these COVID deniers, the whole thing is dragging on even longer. Where is all this headed? There’s no respect left.

Recently, someone threw butyric acid at two testing stations here in our area, and then the police showed up.
It’s just not fun anymore. Christmas markets are closed—a piece of our quality of life is being taken away from us.
You just have to be careful not to get clobbered.
In the evenings, my husband always picks me up from the stop because you never know who’ll get off with me and follow me.

have a wonderful Advent season, everyone—a little distraction does us all good.

Christmas Markets 2021

Everything’s been canceled here, too. The Christmas market was open for about two days, then it was shut down.
Only the ice rink and two food stands were allowed to stay open.
That doesn’t put me in the Christmas spirit at all. It’s a real shame, actually. It’s not very nice for all the schoolchildren.
What’s going to happen now? After all, we only have one life.

Wishing everyone a wonderful First Sunday of Advent—and you’ve all been so hard at work again.
I’m not really in the Christmas spirit yet. I did put up some decorations this morning, but when you have to work the late shift, time is tight.

Instead, I’m admiring your creations.
Steffi, your decorations look great. Is that brown thing on the right a little bird lying on its back? It looks so cute (which pattern is that?).
Your stollen smells all the way over here. It looks delicious. I haven’t even started baking cookies yet.
Sonja, your pull-through scarf looks great. Double-face really is something special, and the stitch pattern looks unique—plus, you always choose such beautiful colors.
Anja, I had to laugh out loud—your wordplay and writing style are a real treat. You always brighten our day with your good humor. Your knitting looks absolutely fantastic. Kudos for sticking with it—that’s always a challenge for me, too.
Marlies, your money cake is definitely going to be a hit with everyone, big and small, young and old. The effort alone is commendable. Some men just don’t appreciate things like that.

Well, have fun, everyone—see you later!

Can you just stop living?

Hi Marlies,
my condolences—I’m so sorry about your uncle. But he did reach a very ripe old age.

I’m familiar with this phenomenon; it does happen. It was exactly the same with my grandma. She was almost 91.
My grandma was never sick, walked without a cane right up until the end, could still think clearly, and yet my dad had visited her the day before. “She was completely calm,” he said, and he’d even tied her shoes for her, and then she passed away that night. Her heart just stopped beating.
For the person experiencing it, it’s a peaceful death without suffering.

My grandmother was our gem—so loving, and she never complained.
I miss her because I was far away in Norway and couldn’t be there.
Now that I’m finally back in Germany, I was able to say goodbye to her at the cemetery (on the Gründen Wiese).

Warm regards

Oh, Christmas cookies—I still have to bake those, too. But not just yet.
We still have gingerbread and speculoos. I’ll bake when I have a day off or an early shift.
Right now I have five late shifts, so I won’t have time.
I still need to pick up the baking ingredients. Since we moved, our supplies are running low.

Petra, that sounds delicious, but what are cinnamon pitten? Stars?

Well then, I hope you all enjoy the anticipation of Christmas :-))

December Projects 2021 + November Projects 2021, Part 3: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Have a lovely evening—
there’s a lot going on here again. I had the day off today, so I had time to check in here again.

Wow, Steffi, your loop scarf turned out great. Even the pattern and the colors are very pretty.

Monika, you’ve really outdone yourself again. Gorgeous colors in your yarn box. That yellow is so bright and cheerful. You do a lot of crocheting with thick and felting yarn. We’re looking forward to seeing your creations.

Anja, I’ve never heard of a breathing trainer like that—how does it work? Hopefully it helps you a little. I’m sure we’ve all experienced that feeling when you can’t get any air, or you’ve choked on something—that’s when panic sets in. Even a tiny crumb in your throat is enough to set it off. At least for me.

Your pet stories sound really interesting. It’s true—it breaks your heart when a little birdie like that flies right into the window. That happened with my budgie back then, too. He was free to fly around, and we had the curtain pulled aside, so Hansi thought he could go outside, and… then he flew into the window. But everything turned out okay in the end.

Today, two great tits were sitting on our balcony, too. But they flew off right away.
Soon we’ll set up a birdhouse, and maybe my husband’s GoPro camera. Because every now and then, a buzzard sits on the roof across the street—pretty big, as far as we can tell. I’m sure we’ll get some great shots with a telephoto lens.

Have a lovely evening with your crafts

Best wishes, Andrea
