Why are Christmas villages so popular, anyway?

because they look so nice 😊 

Because it just looks so cozy and homey—like home, really (even though I’m from the coast).

For December 3, I’ve picked out two photos from the Christmas market in Cuxhaven three years ago.

These villages can be arranged in different ways every time.
I strung a string of lights through my little houses so they’re lit from the inside.

Marlies, your pictures are lovely. When all the lights are on, the Christmas market is especially beautiful. 

Unfortunately, my Christmas village has to stay in the basement. My cats are too wild.
The Christmas star is hanging—so far, they haven’t shown any interest. Next week, we plan to put up the tree in the living room.

I once had a cat that sat in the tree until it fell to the floor the next time I went to check on it.

Well, Petra, those were the days when you could enjoy this pleasure without fear.

Our Christmas village is an inhabited Christmas tree, and I’m making progress with the rest of the decorations too, so here are some pictures for the remaining days:

Here’s part of my decoration this year: a large glass jar filled with baubles and a tinsel garland, along with a small string of LED lights.

We like the tree in December too. Decorations for adults.

Oh wow, Petra, that tree looks absolutely amazing! If we had enough space, we’d already have the tree up now in December.

What a beautiful picture! My view is a gloomy gray over wet rooftops....

Here’s another winter photo for you—taken from our window this morning just before sunrise. A light, icy fog lay over the countryside. It looked truly magical.

Today, December 11, I’d just like to send you an angel. I’m sure everyone could use one.

For the 3rd Sunday of Advent, I’d like to recommend a song by Hansi Hinterseer.
“Weihnacht’n mitanander” can be found on YouTube.
The lyrics fit so wonderfully in these difficult times, which really should only be beautiful.

Beautifully decorated, it lights up our entryway

Since we skipped two days, I’d like to open one of the doors retroactively.

Here’s our hand-carved candle arch, which we received as a gift many years ago and which has been with us year after year.

Would you like to add anything else?

We still have to sleep two more times, and we’ll wake up two more times...... 

Just one more sleep ... and Santa Claus is already on his way.

I wish you all a peaceful, harmonious Christmas filled with many wonders, big and small.

Christmas, the Way It Used to Be

Christmas, the way it used to be,
with apples on the tree and angel hair,
with the scent of gingerbread and real candles,
and peace in everyone’s hearts.

To recite our Christmas poems,
we stood excitedly in front of the decorated fir tree.
Grandma read stories to us children.
I can still hear the sound of her voice.

With hand-knitted sweaters,
we were delighted on Christmas Eve.
And how amazed we were:
Grandpa had built us stilts.

There were building blocks made of colorful wood.
Oh, how proud we were.
We spent hours coming
up with new ideas, and Dad joined in too.

The doll that had disappeared was back again with a new dress.

She had taken
a trip to the Christ Child and had even brought back a little coat. We loved the plate of Christmas treats.


The Christmas star shone brightly in the sky.
I love thinking back to how it used to be,
with apples on the tree and angel hair.

With that in mind, I wish everyone a wonderful Boxing Day.
