I like it when an accessory is not only useful, but also beautifully decorative at the same time. And if it’s also handmade with love, it’s extra valuable—for yourself, or of course as a gift for dear people.

Here are a few project suggestions from me that have a practical use and are also little works of art. Maybe you’ll find something among them that you like :-)

All the projects shown are made using the doubleface knitting technique. If you don’t know this knitting technique yet, my very first suggestion is a free pattern for a coaster with the doubleface basics.

Free knitting pattern: Doubleface Basics - Skull Skully

Doubleface knitting pattern: Washcloth / Cloth “Elo Elephant”

Doubleface knitting pattern: Cloth “Live Love Laugh”

Doubleface knitting pattern: Cloth “Love Birds”

Doubleface knitting pattern: Cloth “Bear Tobi”

Doubleface knitting pattern: Potholder “Flamingo Love”

Doubleface knitting pattern: Drawstring Bag “Schoolchild”

Doubleface knitting pattern: Drawstring Bag “Life is magic”

Doubleface knitting pattern: Placemat “Paris”

Doubleface knitting pattern: E-Reader Protective Cover

You can create really wonderful, practical, and beautiful things using the tapestry crochet technique, too! The strand that isn’t needed at the moment is crocheted in, so both the front and back look nice. It’s very easy and is explained in detail in each of my patterns.

Decorative, functional, and useful—a lovely mix. You can crochet or knit practical things from yarn that look good and serve a purpose. The advantage is that you don’t have to buy them, and handmade items look much, much prettier and more individual. Here are my suggestions for you. I hope you enjoy looking at them and making them yourself. For more pictures, information, and the pattern itself, simply click on the headings.

Warm regards from Ina

Knitted dishcloths for the kitchen - pattern with knit and purl stitches

Crocheted dishcloths are also very popular in the kitchen. I always like giving them as gifts together with a tea towel.

Knitting pattern for a pillow - knitted in your favorite color, you can make yourselves nice and comfortable

Pattern for crocheting around tin cans - lots of things will find their place in these cans. The pattern is ideal for leftover yarn. It is crocheted in continuous rounds, and you can use as many colors as you like.

This tablecloth is crocheted from many individual flowers. The flowers are joined to the ones already crocheted in the final round.

Who’s planning a garden party? Then, of course, a colorful pennant garland is a must.

For the little flowers, or later for the bread at the garden party, a pretty little basket is a must. The oval shape and the bobble pattern are lovely.

These crocheted-covered glasses in different sizes are also very pretty. Whether for wildflowers or for an evening candle, they make a really lovely table decoration.

You can never have too many pot holders. A bright, eye-catching piece like this is something truly special. These oven gloves are disguised as ladybugs and are very easy to crochet.

This little pouch for 10 tissues is eco-friendly and very pretty, too. The pattern includes creative ideas for different designs. A truly lovely project for using up leftover yarn and always a welcome gift.

Even large tissue boxes can be hidden inside a pretty cover. That way, they can even sit on the dining table. This, too, is a nice gift idea and a wonderful way to use up leftover yarn. Very easy to make.

In these times of working from home, these door guards are just what you need. A fun way to give the room’s occupant some peace and quiet while they work. But they’re also a big hit with kids when they want to play on their own.

Both are easy to make and ideal for using up leftover yarn.

The colorful spring meadow always brings a cheerful mood to the table. It’s the perfect way to start the morning off right. This project is also great for using up cotton leftovers. Various egg cozies and egg cups, along with placemats, floral decorations, and coasters, make for a cheerful set.

If you have a toddler, be sure to crochet this bag for them. It fits perfectly on little vehicles, whether it’s a tricycle, a Puky, or a balance bike. That way, their little stuffed animals can come along for the ride, too.

Pretty and practical things for the kitchen:

Dish sponges,  crocheted from sponge yarn (e.g., Creative Bubble), are not only decorative but also very practical and sustainable, since they can be used again and again. Just put them in the washing machine regularly at 60°, and they will always stay hygienically clean.

Here are a few suggestions from my shop:

 Dish Sponge Little Cleaning Devil

Dish Sponge Sunflower

Dish Sponge Ladybug

Potholders  are also both decorative and a necessary kitchen tool:

Potholders Milk Can and Coffee Cup

Potholders Crazy Owls

Potholder Strawberry

Of course, you can use a tea light just as it is as a small light source. But placed in a beautiful holder, it looks much more elegant and festive.

These tea light holders are made from photo cardstock, measure approx. 15 cm in diameter, and are wonderfully suitable even for beginners with little crafting experience.
