Decor, practical items, and functional items: shop now.

This little pouch for 10 tissues fits in any handbag and can be refilled again and again. This saves plastic and looks much prettier, too.

The pattern includes various patterns and models that you can crochet creatively.

Of course, there is also a decorative cover for the large cardboard box. That way, tissues are always within reach everywhere. It’s also a great gift idea.

Here, colorful leftover yarn can be creatively mixed and used up.

Creative, useful, and suitable for many purposes are these cute gnomes. They can be crocheted in different sizes and colors using leftover yarn. They like to hide useful things such as buttons and small bits and pieces, or even breakfast eggs. At Easter, they can be hidden in the garden.

The gnome house can also serve many purposes. It is actually a storage basket and can hold both yarn and crochet hooks. Easy to crochet and versatile.

This door guardian owl is especially useful and very popular for the home office. With it, you can lovingly let people know that the person in the room must not be disturbed.

Children love it especially, too. And when needed, it can also indicate at the bathroom or restroom whether it is currently occupied.

Easy to crochet using leftover yarn.

There is also a little bear as a door guardian—for everyone who likes bears. Of course, he keeps watch just as reliably and is dearly loved.

This pillow cover has two different sides, both of which are easy to knit. One side is worked from corner to corner, and the other side in a pretty slipped-stitch pattern.

Decor, practical items, and functional items: shop now.

Not just decorative, but super functional too:
A doll stroller or little bed definitely needs a sleeping bag so the baby doll stays nice and warm. This crocheted sleeping bag fits a doll up to 50 cm tall, or two smaller ones.

Go to the crochet pattern

Toddlers with a Puky, tricycle, or balance bike definitely need a crocheted bag like this that fits right on it. It has a double bottom, making it quite sturdy.

Go to the crochet pattern

This daycare bag with an adjustable strap is also indispensable—even on walks. It also has a double bottom, so nothing gets lost.

Go to the crochet pattern

A shopping bag is definitely a must for a play store. It can be filled right away with carrots and lemons.

Go to the crochet pattern

The dolls also like to eat what the doll mommy has on her plate. Now the little ones can get creative and cook for their favorites. There’s fried egg on toast with butter, or noodles with vegetables.

Advanced crafters: Download February’s bestsellers now.

This cozy first cardigan with a hood makes an especially lovely gift for a newborn. It fits up to about 4 months, and later the baby doll can wear it. The cardigan has a pretty heart lace pattern and is reminiscent of traditional costume style.

For toddlers, the time is coming soon when they’ll be playing outside a lot again. Especially for the transitional season, a warm cardigan like this made of merino wool is just the thing. The hood and pockets are especially practical. The cardigan fits approx. sizes 92 to 104.

For toddlers, playing outside also definitely includes a tricycle, Puky, or balance bike. This bag is especially popular with little ones because it fits perfectly on their vehicle.

It is crocheted sturdily and has a double bottom, so nothing can get lost.

Bakery

Christina, these are made with whole-grain spelt flour. We experimented with the recipe for a long time until we got it just right. Now we’re absolutely thrilled with the result. We’ve also made them as a party sun—then they’re just smaller. So far, every guest has enjoyed them.

Ines, your bread is actually more like rolls placed next to each other. The recipe sounds great—I’ll have to try it sometime.

Ines, you’re amazing! It’s incredible how much you get done. You just casually finished crocheting the bunny in between other things, and now you’ve made the storage basket—which, by the way, looks really cute again. And then there’s that delicious bread! Hmmm...

Christina, I’m already looking forward to seeing your doll’s baby sweater. :-)

Do I need to register a business?

Hi Alkabafi,

Even if you’re just starting out, as soon as you offer something for sale, you have to register it. I’m registered with the tax office as a freelance writer. That means less paperwork.

As far as making money goes, I have to agree with my colleagues. It can take a while to get things going. And it requires a lot of hard work. For me, it started off very slowly and only picked up once I figured out what my customers liked and—most importantly—what was “mine,” meaning what sets me apart from others.

The main thing is that you genuinely enjoy being creative and designing something new. Then success will follow, even if it takes a lot of patience.

I’d also love to check out your shop.

Best regards
Monika

HELP! Circular needles are “stuck” in the stitches!

I’d do exactly what Petra suggested: loosen it stitch by stitch. Next time, definitely use a set of double-pointed needles or the CraSyTrio for such a small number of stitches.

You’ve got this. Don’t worry. We’ve all had these kinds of initial difficulties at some point. ;-)

Ina, thanks for your feedback! :)
As I mentioned before, the new double-face project will be a cute little bag for Easter. Yes, it’s true—learning and practicing can be a bit tedious. But when I think about how we all felt the same way at the beginning when we were learning to knit… and now we’re pretty fast at it. I don’t always have that much patience, but I just like the double-face results so much that I stuck with it. The double-knitted hat and the wrist warmers make all the effort worth it. They’re so nice and warm. I really enjoy them.

As for raglan, I always thought it was complicated to figure out. That might be true for larger items. But for smaller ones for dolls and babies, it’s really easy once you get the hang of it.

’80s Nostalgia

Ines, when I look at the entry in your autograph book, I realize it’s similar to mine—and surely to others’ as well. The underlined lines (sometimes still visible) and the writing across the bottom margin. I’m glad I still have memories like these. Unfortunately, my second autograph book must have gotten lost during all those moves. It was the follow-up book I started after the move.

Hand Lettering

@nadiwagn

That looks really nice and is a great tip. Thanks for that! I still enjoy writing greeting cards by hand, and you can create something really beautiful just with the lettering.

I also learned Old German script in school and can still read it.

How's the weather where you are?

Here in southeastern Bavaria, it’s still calm, and the sun peeks out from time to time. But starting tonight, we’re supposed to get some snow here, and it’s going to get bitterly cold by the weekend.

Marion, looks like we were writing at the same time. :)
You guessed it. It’s going to be a little bag for Easter. Sonja will probably show hers here first. Mine isn’t coming along quite as fast because I have to be careful with the pattern. It’s not something you can just do on the side—it takes time.

I’m really looking forward to seeing your swatch, especially the color choices. It just occurred to me that this pattern would also work well for crocheting a pillow or a blanket.... I hadn’t even thought about that yet.

Sandra , your egg cups are absolutely adorable. Did you design them yourself?

Petra , your blanket and those little booties look so cozy—little Kira will definitely never be cold. I love this pattern, too. And that color combination would be right up my alley.
Your raglan jacket looks really pretty. Yeah, I love raglan too—actually, it’s my favorite because it’s so easy to knit and has no seams. And it’s simple, too.

Ines , your bunny is super cute! Just the kind you want to cuddle. Especially because it looks so sad. I think you did an amazing job with it.
Oh, I’m so glad my daughter-in-law is always happy to receive something knitted. It’s always gratefully accepted. I’d be really sad too if it were turned down. There’s always so much love and work that goes into it. But I’m sure there’s someone among your friends or acquaintances who’d be thrilled to have it.
Well then, I wish you all happy snow shoveling. It starts tomorrow here, but probably not as intense as it is where you are.

Andrea , you’ve crocheted such a pretty blanket for Krümel—and the matching pillow to go with it. I love these kinds of colorful leftover projects. I’ve actually been thinking about how to use up these little scraps now. Sternchen already has two sleeping bags, though. But pillowcases and blankets can always come in handy.

Have a wonderful day, everyone—with or without snow. :)

Warm regards from Monika

’80s Nostalgia

Those sliding panels are still around—I’ve seen them at my granddaughters’ houses.
Oh, those little plastic TVs—they used to be so exciting with the slides. My son had one, too.
And those two plastic marbles—they were great, too.

Something else just came to mind. It was a cup with a string attached to a ball. You had to fling the ball into the cup. I used to love playing with that. I think that still exists somewhere.

Unfortunately, I can’t hula-hoop anymore either—I’d have to practice again.

The double cassette recorder still exists too, and I love it. It still gets played every now and then. We used to dub cassettes on it—it was great.

Sandra, what a cute little dragon—again! The colors look great, too. :) Do you already know who’s getting it?

Ruth, you’re tireless with your little ideas and turning them into patterns. That takes me much longer. Your family of geese is absolutely adorable. I can totally understand why your grandchildren are so into them.

Andrea, your sunflower child is very cute, and the jacket really suits the teddy bear. The blanket looks amazing. A lovely little project to work on in between other things.

Weather-wise, I’m also glad to live in the south. Heavy snowfall is forecast for the rest of Germany. Hopefully it won’t be too bad.

So, and the sweater for the smaller teddy, Fy..., is now finished too. Here he is, sitting with Sternchen for the photo.

’80s Nostalgia

We still have a folding bike, and we still like riding it best. It’s especially great when we go on a motorhome trip. I think they still sell those cream wafers. I liked them too, but today they’d be far too sweet for me. But there were all kinds of candies, 1 pfennig each. You could have a mixed bag put together. The shopkeepers were always very patient when they had to take one or two candies out of each jar. Licorice wheels were delicious too. My goodness, I mustn’t even think about how much sugary stuff I ate as a child. No wonder my teeth suffered so badly from it.

Christina, I have such lovely drawings in my little book too, and I was always especially happy about them. But I still find the little pictures beautiful today. There must still be a collection somewhere, unless I gave it to a child at some point in the meantime.

Andrea, yeah, I still remember Halma and the bouncy balls, too. I think I might still have one lying around somewhere.

Ina, we still had recycling collection here until recently. We even had a scissors sharpener come to our house.
Is dodgeball actually a thing of the past now? That would be a shame. Oh yeah, and those Konsum stamps—I remember those, too. And fizzy sherbet powder! I loved it as a kid. I remember the Kaufhalle and the curling iron, too.

I’ve got that warning message in my scrapbook as well. Yeah, exactly—the handwritten notes are something really special. My parents left some very lovely messages in my album. And I cherish those very much.

Even though we’ve now gone back in time not just to the ’80s, but much earlier, it’s a joy to travel back to those days. That’s when we realize just how different things really were… and how some things have even carried on to this day.

Warm regards from Monika

Yes, Inge, I have sayings like that in mine, too. My parents, all my teachers, uncles, aunts, the pastor, and even the school principal have left their mark in it. The sayings clearly show what that generation was like. And besides, my parents weren’t young when they had me. They were born in the early 1900s.
