Hi everyone,
I’m soooo happy. We’ve got a new addition to the family. Let me introduce you to Kruemel—she’s moving in with us starting today. Isn’t she cute?
She was born here in Norway and comes with all kinds of accessories. It’s totally crazy. I’ve already told my parents that they’re now Grandma and Grandpa. Kruemel is such a sweet little rascal, and she makes us all laugh

Oh Andrea, I’m thrilled!!! :-) Your Krümel is so adorably sweet, and my Sternchen thinks so too. It sounds crazy... but I’d totally buy her as a companion for my Sternchen.

I’d like to congratulate all of you on the new addition to your family, and I hope you have lots of fun with her.

Here’s a little anecdote…
Yesterday we had an online meeting with some friends. And I ended up telling them about my knitting projects. Of course, I showed off Sternchen. They were both totally thrilled and could understand my love for her. They said she looks like a real child and thought she was absolutely adorable, too.

Oh, how cute :)

We also got a “Krümel” for Christmas :) (That’s really the doll’s name according to the manufacturer)
The only difference is that this one is made of plush and is super soft and cuddly.

My mom is already thrilled.
Now it’s not just packages with children’s clothes for her grandson arriving, but also packages with doll clothes for her plush great-grandson.

Andrea, that was quick—congratulations on the new addition!

My goodness, your Krümel is so cute—you’re sure to have a lot of fun with her. She looks a lot like my little Mäx.

She’s already dressed so nicely, but I’m sure you’ll make her a few things yourself. I’m looking forward to seeing them.

Wow, I’m just as excited as you all are. Even I’m still amazed by all the things Kruemel can do. So my dream has come true.
The outfit alone is already so cute. I’m sure I’ll enjoy this little one for a long time.
We practically have “triplets” here on the forum, if I’m not mistaken.
I still can’t believe she’s here. Yippee!

Oh, how sweet, Andrea! Congratulations on the new addition to your family. Kruemel is a really cute little rascal. Even though she already has quite a few outfits with her, I’m sure your hard-working hands will be making some new ones soon.
I hope you have lots of fun with Kruemel.

Warm regards, Ines

Monika, I feel exactly the same way, even though I already own so many dolls. How big are Sternchen and Krümel, and do they have sleep eyes and soft bodies?

Hey, Wollbaerli,
Krümel is 46 cm tall, has a soft body (I love floppy dolls), and there are 2 batteries hidden in her back.
She has several touch-sensitive spots on her body and hands—when you press them, she says “Mama” and “Papa.” She laughs, cries, blinks her eyes, and she even snores and then closes her eyes.
But when I lay Krümel down, she doesn’t automatically close her eyes.

I have so much fun with her. If you give her the bottle, she really sucks on it and blinks her eyes. Just so cute.
She’s not just for little doll moms. With her, you become a kid again yourself.

Monika , yeah, that’s true—she looks so natural with that sweet little face; you just have to love her.
I’d love to take her to bed with me, but my husband’s not having it *laughs*

Oh, my dears, it gives me such joy to read all this - and I’m absolutely delighted that we’re becoming children again here. That’s exactly what we need right now in these crazy times, and what does us good.

Yes, we have triplets - Marion’s Mäxchen, Andreas’s Krümel, and my Sternchen - they all look the same. They have soft bodies, and I just love that. Mine has sleep eyes, can laugh, say "Mama" and "Papa," and suck on a bottle. It feels so real; I’m really in love with the little one.

When I read now what Andreas’s Krümel can do ... I could really be tempted. Maybe I’ll wish for one for my birthday.... we’ll see. I’ll probably have to start preparing my husband veeeery slowly for the new addition. By the way, he enjoys it too, and I always make him laugh with the "Papa."

I already have two teddy bears in bed ... hmm. But the thought has occurred to me to take Sternchen to bed too. :-) Since my husband, as a snorer, usually sleeps alone, the competition wouldn’t be such a big deal.

We really are a few crazy doll mothers, aren’t we? By the way, what I enjoy most is knitting for the little one. And if I could do it for two at once ... I mean, designing twin clothes, that would really be something.

Dear Andrea, congratulations on the new addition. Kruemel is truly enchanting—you instantly take her into your heart, or rather, into your arms. I totally believe you when you say it’s wonderful to care for and spoil such a little baby. No matter how old we get, it’s just in our genes. And if we don’t have a real one to spoil, then we’ll just have to make do with an enchanting little one like yours.

I have one too, living in my guest room. Back then, I actually bought it just as a model for the baby clothes I was knitting for my expected grandchild. And it even smells like vanilla... :-) I can’t give you any specific details about its name or size right now, but it definitely feels “real”—it has some weight to it and the cutest little hands and feet :-)

Dear Andrea, I hope you continue to enjoy every moment with your little darling.

How big is your little one? She looks pretty big.

Here’s a little peek into Sternchen’s life. :-)

This is what she looks like when she’s sleeping in her cozy, warm sleeping bag:

She can even suck on her finger.

And now she’s woken up.

Ina, the things you discover! You really do look closely :-) Yes, I crocheted that little duck once using a pattern from here, and now my little star has it as a cuddly toy.

My big doll (60 cm), which I actually bought just as a model for baby clothes, also smells like vanilla. And so does everything she was wearing.

I bought this doll as a model years ago. She has real baby proportions and wears size 56/62 clothes.
Now I’m looking for a doll in a standard size. I’m not sure. There are lots of 40-cm dolls, but also 30-cm ones??

Petra, our triplets (including my little star) is 46 cm tall. The Baby Born is about the same size. That’s currently the most common and popular size for dolls, at about 43–50 cm.

Yours is really cute, too. I’ve admired it many times. It’s nice that you’re introducing her to us here, too. I also have a larger one who models baby clothes. I needed one for my grandchildren, too, since they live too far away.

Ina, your baby looks really cute too, and has such an adorable face.
I’m just imagining a group photo of our babies together. It would definitely look funny.
My Krümel doesn’t have a sleeping bag or a little bed yet, though. I could imagine that, then you could sew or crochet cute bedding.
Monika, I spotted the duckling for your Sternchen right away too. It’s so cute. Did my Krümel bring along his little teddy right away. Is the duckling pattern still here?
ursulapetra’s picture was removed, so now I don’t know which doll it was. I tend to like them small and cute.
Monika, my dollie doesn’t suck her thumb, she can’t get her arm around that far.
So we don’t need to break her of that habit *grin*

Our “triplets” are already the perfect cuddle-and-love size
I talk to her every day. Crazy. But healthy *laugh*

best wishes to all doll mommies

Dear Andrea, is your husband good with his hands? Then he could build a little bed for your baby—and you can take care of the decorations.
I actually designed a bed for my little dolls. If you print out the templates and enlarge them on the copier, you’ll automatically end up with a bigger bed once you glue the pieces together.

Even if you’re not that handy, you can still put one together using just rectangular boards. I’ll just attach the pictures here.

Best regards, Ina

Andrea, the little duckling comes from this pattern:
Mini Ducks, Ducklings, and Chicks Family Amigurumi Free E-Book | Free

I crocheted the whole family and then placed the baby in my baby’s hand. It fits perfectly. It’s been hers ever since.

Yes, a photo of the triplets would be cute. :)

I’m also already thinking about making Sternchen a little bed of her own. I’d already thought about using a cardboard box and crocheting around it. That would be the easiest and cheapest option. Right now, she always sleeps in the rocking chair.

Getting her to keep her finger in her mouth didn’t work right away either. Now it’s so firmly in there that it stays. It looks sooo cute. Of course, she gets her pacifier every now and then.

Where does your enthusiasm for lifelike dolls come from?
I’m a bit skeptical about this topic, so I’d like more information to help me understand it.

Josefa, I also used my little Mäxchen as a model at first—it’s a pretty eye-catcher when you want to sell something.
Now it gets to sit on my sofa and relax. I keep dressing it up in new outfits. It’s just so much fun.

Thanks to Monika, my little Mäxchen now has a small collection of clothes.
Here’s an example.

For me, my grandchildren live very far away. And as a child, I loved playing with dolls… probably that maternal instinct that’s inherent in us women. That child inside me is still alive. And I find it funny that when women come to visit us… some of them really get into it too. The inner child is still alive in them as well. So everyone has their own preferences—isn’t that nice? :)

Actually… I’d only bought the doll as a model—and I’d simply fallen in love with that sweet little face. The fact that she’s getting more attention now might be because I’m missing contact with real people—especially my grandchildren—more and more.

I’m just enjoying it and think it’s really nice to chat here—with a little humor mixed in. Josefa and Akela, you shouldn’t take this too seriously. ;-) We’re just indulging our inner doll moms again. :-)

Marion, that’s such a cute photo—with her thumb in her mouth. So it works for you, too.

By the way, when Linja, my almost 5-year-old granddaughter, was here, she also had a lot of fun with Sternchen. We loved watching her become a mom. She doesn’t have a doll like this at home—just very simple Waldorf dolls. That’s why she was so amazed that a doll could close its eyes.

By the way, when I was a kid, I had such stiff dolls; there was nothing like this back then. You could say I’m making up for lost time now… grin. ;-)

So this isn’t just playing with dolls, but also a way to cope with the COVID-19 contact restrictions / missing out on time with grandchildren?

Monika, I didn’t have such nice dolls back in the day either; they were all stiff.
Unfortunately, my two granddaughters almost never played with dolls.

What do you think of this? I made it myself.

Thanks, Josefa—that’s great!

I think there are lots of grown-up “doll moms” out there—even outside of lockdown—who just still enjoy it. That’s how I feel, too. That’s why I’m especially happy that we can share our experiences here. It’s nice to see that others feel the same way.

Marion, you put that photo together really nicely. Thanks for that!

good evening, dear doll mommies,

it’s so nice when doll mommies can chat with each other. So I’m not alone with this fondness after all.
The group photo of everyone together looks so sweet, thank you Wollefaden.
It really warms your heart. If this forum didn’t exist, I probably never would have gotten myself a baby doll. So at least a wish for a child from days gone by has now come true. A floppy little doll, soft, and she makes sounds..., like a real one,  simply lovely.
And because I don’t have any “real” grandchildren, Krümel is now our pride and joy, and you can crochet/knit for her to your heart’s content.
I think exactly the same as Monika. You simply live out your “inner child,” which you’ve kept all these years. In the current times, when grandchildren and grandparents can’t see each other, it’s a little comfort, but it feels good to bring yourself some joy now and then, and to be able to share it too. So you’re not quite so alone.
So my Susi now has a little sibling, so to speak, although Susi is already 49 years old, and I was given her when I was 8. Once she’s appropriately dressed, I’ll introduce her to you.
Thank you Ina for your selection of little beds. I like the top one very much. My husband is very handy. I already brought it up with him, and he laughed. Later. First he has to finish building his modules for his model railway layout (laying tracks, soldering cables). It’s never boring at our place. Maybe I’ll try Monika’s cheap version with the cardboard box sometime. All in good time.

I feel really good in this doll thread.

have lots of fun, Krümel has to go to bed now - on the couch

Oh, Andrea, you’ve really started something here. I’m so grateful to you for this, because I also really enjoy chatting with all the other doll moms here. It’s so important right now to treat ourselves to these little joys.

I feel exactly the same way as you do. As a child, I always wanted a soft doll like that, but I never got one. It’s only now that I realize I’ve actually fulfilled a childhood wish of my own. Sternchen always sits next to me on the couch, and in the evening I put her in the rocking chair to sleep. Right now, she loves her thumb. ;-)

Andrea, I could imagine that you might still discover a love for knitting after all. There are so many possibilities. Using a cardboard box as a little bed is definitely a simple and great way to get creative. You can really let loose while crocheting and use up some leftover yarn.

I can already see this turning into a creative group here. :)

So I’m back, hello first of all,

Oh Monika, I’m not completely innocent though *hehe*

And she does suckle after all, looks cute

thanks for the link to the little duckling. I thought I’d crochet it with thin yarn and a 1.75 mm hook, but that ended up being way too tiny; she’s holding it unfinished in her hand.

Andrea, she looks so cute, your Krümel with her finger in her mouth. It didn’t work for me until after several tries, either.

All three ducklings fit when Krümel holds them by the neck. But I chose the smallest one because it fits best. I crocheted them with relatively thin yarn and a size 2.5 hook.

Have lots of fun with Krümel :) and warm regards from Sternchen :)

Monika, yes, I saw that too, that your little star only has one touch point on its body. So Krümel probably makes more sounds.
You can even hear a cough, laughing, snoring, a kind of peeing sound. It’s just so much fun. When she snores like that, I just can’t stop laughing; it always looks so cute.
Just like you, after undressing Krümel to adjust the crochet piece, I dressed her again right away so she wouldn’t get cold. Somehow I just can’t leave Krümel sitting there half-naked like that.
I always have to laugh when all “three” of us are sitting on the couch drinking coffee. Krümel in the middle. She gets her bottle then too.  My husband thinks it’s funny too. It’s lovely when there are such understanding men as our two.

I’m still happy. Well Monika, doesn’t your little star need a playmate too? Lots of fun guaranteed, I can only confirm that :-)    :-)     :-)

Warm evening greetings

Oh, Andrea, I’m actually tempted… we’ll see. Sternchen already has a playmate, after all.

It’s really nice that we’ve found each other here with our crazy “doll mom” thing. But the little one really is sooo cute. Of course, she gets a bottle, too. :)

I’m also glad to have a husband who’s understanding about this. No matter what kind of mood he’s in, Sternchen always manages to put a smile on his face with her “Daddy.” Totally crazy, I know…

Well, time for coffee and a bottle now… ;-)

Dear doll moms,

Marion, I absolutely love your blanket. Are the appliqués sewn on or crocheted in as you went?
It looks so colorful. I need a blanket like that for Krümel, too. I really like it. I’ve got plenty of little leftover yarn lying around anyway.
Monika, my Krümel still says “ow” and even gives a little “kiss.” It’s really funny. Yeah, my husband always has to laugh when she says “Daddy.”

Have fun with your babies!

That sounds really tempting—a baby who even says “Ouch”... and, by the way, burps while drinking too (I saw that in the video).

Have fun with your babies, everyone. Sternchen is going to sleep now.

I’m so glad you guys like Mäxchen’s blanket, too.
Andrea gave me the idea with her c2c blanket. Last year, I treated myself to a book again (Grannys). I finally wanted to try something from it. So, after a bit of tinkering, this blanket came together.
At first I had 5 granny squares, then I had to fill in the gaps. I crocheted them lengthwise and crosswise until it fit. The motifs are crocheted right into the blanket. Some parts are crocheted separately and then sewn on—the sheep is 3D.
Here’s another picture so you can see it better.

Marion, your blanket is really a hit! You did a fantastic job on it. Especially the figures on it look great! Right now, Sternchen has two sleeping bags, so she doesn’t need a blanket. But who knows what else I’ll come up with.

I think it’s really funny that we have triplets. One boy and two girls. So cute!

Oh yeah, Monika, me as a saleswoman in a toy store—that’d be it; I’d feel right at home there. I could totally “get lost” in that.

Marion, I’m itching to crochet your pretty blanket for my little doll. But I’ve taken on a bit too much crochet-wise and have to take a little forced break, even though I could actually get started right away. Oh well. There are worse things.

My question: with that dark blue granny square and those light blue rows next to it, how did you crochet them together—or did you just crochet row by row and then insert the hook into the granny square at the end and join it with a stitch?
That was a great idea of yours with the colorful blanket, and the arrangement really has something to it.

Anyway, I need to rest my right arm—I’m just reading along here.

Have a lovely evening, everyone, and a relaxing weekend!

Well, Andrea, how about you dig out your knitting needles again for your little one and knit her something pretty? It’s way more relaxing than crocheting. It’s easier than you think. :)

Yesterday I photographed the dolls that have accumulated.

One of the Russian dolls is from a pen pal in Omsk (many, many years ago).
The others were played with by my daughters and stayed with me after they moved out.

I bought the Baby Born, Little Baby Born, and the reborn doll especially for my patterns.

Hi there,
Wow, schnatterdesign, what a lovely doll collection you have. The big dolls at the very back on the left almost look like the doll I had as a child.
The smaller ones are so chicly dressed. I still have some like that too, but unfortunately they still have to freeze. They’ll get something to wear soon.
Those little dolls with the reddish-brown and gray hair, did you glue that on, or did they come that way? It looks really interesting. You could make a grandma out of one of them. I’ll keep that idea in mind.
Thanks for showing us

Monika, I posted a picture in the handicrafts thread. I really did knit again for once. Just a simple scarf for my Krümel to start with, in knit and purl stitches. Strangely enough, it worked, and it really is faster than crocheting, could that be?

Have fun with your little dolls

Wow, schnatter_design, you have a really beautiful doll collection. I think the little ones are cute, too. My dolls from when I was a kid were designed just like that. They were all too stiff for me, though. I prefer the soft ones because they’re more flexible and kind of feel like a real baby.

Yeah, Andrea, that’s what I love about knitting, too—it really goes faster and is much easier on the arms. Maybe you should give the raglan sweater a try—or the pants? It’s easier than you think.

Today I knitted some little socks for Sternchen so her feet stay warm. They’re made from the same yarn as the onesie. I’ll post a photo of them later.

I wish all you doll moms a wonderful Sunday! I’m going for a walk now.

Hi, Bastelfan and wow19—

actually, I had lots of dolls when I was a kid; I graduated from school 42 years ago. My daughters used to play with dolls, too.

When the grandkids come to visit sometime, they play with the wooden zoo set or do some coloring. The dolls aren’t the main focus.

schnatter_design, I graduated from school 41 years ago—funny. That means we’re about the same age.

My granddaughters don’t play with dolls much at home either. When the older one was visiting us recently, she was especially taken with Sternchen, mainly because she can do so many things. She was totally fascinated—just like me. :)

Monika, your little star must be delighted. Such lovely new socks so she won’t be cold anymore.

I knitted something new for Mäxchen too.
A hat (free pattern from here) and a sweater based on my own idea.

Now he’s still lying on his blanket, dreaming of a pair of pants. But those still need to be made.

Oh my goodness, Marion, that’s so cute! I think the color is absolutely charming for your little Mäx, and you’ve knitted both the sweater and the hat beautifully. You’ve already knitted a pair of pants for Mäx once before, as far as I can remember. I’m going to design a new pair soon—this time as overalls.

Whenever I look at our babies, I fall in love with them all over again. Without you, I never would have found Sternchen. She’s sitting next to me, sucking her thumb. ;-) I’m also knitting a new—very simple—RVO sweater for her out of leftover yarn. Here’s what it looks like so far:

Thanks, Monika. I’m also totally in love with my little Mäxchen.
I don’t have much of the lilac-colored yarn left—I’ve already used it in the blanket. I’ll have to come up with something for the pants. They’re supposed to match, after all.
Your new sweater for Sternchen has beautiful colors; you can always whip up wonderful things with leftover yarn.

I hope you continue to enjoy your knitting.

Thanks, Marion. Blue would go really well with your lilac, for example, since you have a boy. ;-)

You could make some white pants with lilac stripes. Or is your little Max a dirty little rascal who loves to get himself dirty?

Ruth, my little Mäx is very well-behaved—he doesn’t really like to get dirty.
I’ve already thought about white, but dark blue wouldn’t be bad either. I’ll have to dig through my scraps—I’m sure I’ll find something.

oh how cute Marion, I already admired Mäxchen’s outfit in the gallery. It looks absolutely wonderful. The hat with the point has something really adorable about it.
I’ve already downloaded the pattern too, but I still need to practice a bit. I still don’t quite get knitting the two edges at the top together and the lace row.
Your sweater looks interesting, but I don’t dare try it yet; it looks complicated.
Soon I’ll practice top-down raglan when my Casy Trio Set arrives; it’s been ordered. It should come in the next few days. I’m curious to see how it goes.

But... I also knitted a hat for my Krümel (picture in the handicrafts thread).
I usually upload my pictures with the tablet; now I’m writing on the PC.

ok, see you later. Have fun crafting, I need to start making dinner soon

Andrea

Andrea, I’ve already spotted Krümel with his hat—you did a great job on that.
You’ll manage Mäxchen’s hat, too. You can sew or crochet it together at the top, and at the bottom you can also make single crochet stitches with an eyelet row.

Andrea, you’ll be great at knitting once you get started. After my long break, I spent days just watching YouTube videos to really get back into it. And I learned a lot of new things in the process. I’m sure you’ll really start to enjoy knitting for Sternchen. The fun comes from doing it.

Oh yeah, thanks, Marion—I’ll give that a try.

Exactly, Monika—it’s really fun, but I don’t want to overdo it with my arm; it’s another unfamiliar movement, but you’re right—it’s better that way.

Well then, good night!

So now my little star has one of those cute little dwarf hats, too. I think that’s a nicer name for our babies.

That’s great, Monika—I’ve already admired her. The colors look so good, and the hat fits perfectly. .

What do you think of our triplets?

So cute, Marion! Absolutely adorable. :)

For the hat, I used a 25-gram skein of baby wool that I had left over. I barely had enough, so I had to stop a little early. And that’s why the hat fits perfectly, even without a turned-up brim. I then pulled the cord through the stitches at the bottom—it worked really well.

So, here’s my Laura again. Luckily, her sisters haven’t seen the little hat yet—otherwise they’d definitely want one too, and I just don’t have time for that right now, plus it’s a bit tricky with yarn. By the way, the triplet photo is absolutely adorable!

With the cold weather, Mäxchen got a warm sleeping bag, thanks to Monika.

Marion, you did a great job with this, and Mäxchen is clearly comfortable in her new sleeping bag. It all goes together really well. Thanks for testing the crochet pattern. :)

Dear doll moms,

my little star has now discovered a cuddly toy that works wonderfully as a lovey together with her thumb. Look, isn’t that totally cute!

I’ve got some new baby additions (both 35 cm tall) living with me now. They’re dying to be dressed up.

I’ll also be working on doll babies for a while. No, not my own. I get to dress a pair of twins for a preschool.

I still have my doll clothes in the basement, so I’ll see what patterns I can trace and what I can make out of them.

I started with a little pinafore dress. The fabric used to be a shirt that belonged to my son-in-law.

Now I just need to decide on some buttons. You can tell from the seams that I’m just an amateur. But maybe something is off with the sewing machine settings, too.

Once the first baby is dressed, I’ll show you a picture.

Oh, Petra, that’s such a lovely project. I’m sure you’ll show us some really pretty things. I’m looking forward to it. Old clothes work really well for this.

I already poured my heart out to Marlies yesterday. The little doll I’m making clothes for is only 27 cm tall. I’m still working on the jacket and can’t decide if I should rip it out and start over. Everything I’ve made so far looked so huge and bulky on the little doll.

I finished a little hat today. I’m not really thrilled with it, but I’ve woven in all the loose ends now.

What kind of yarn are you using? For such tiny dolls, you need really thin yarn. I see that with the clothes for dress-up dolls, too. They’re only 29 cm tall and much slimmer than your baby doll.
You can get good results with sock yarn or lace yarn. Thin mohair yarn looks really cute, too.

The yarn has 210 m per 50 grams. I used size 3 needles. I think it’s too thick for me—it turned out pretty tight. Mohair is a good suggestion.

I hadn’t even thought about the fact that your dolls are actually that big, too. I’ll keep experimenting. After all, I have plenty of yarn in all weights at home

I think the jacket is okay as it is, Petra.

But the wool for the hat is too thick for that little head. I’d also go with a “flatter” pattern that doesn’t add too much bulk. Those are the problems we have with our little babies...

Petra, I think it’s the pattern. It makes the jacket look pretty big and bulky. It might look better with smaller patterns. That makes a huge difference. That’s why I prefer to knit stockinette stitch for the little ones—or, as I said, with a very subtle pattern. For example, you can achieve a lot with slipped stitches or a delicate lace pattern.

I also think the hat looks too bulky because of the pattern. But it still looks cute, and I’m sure the kids don’t care.

Yesterday, a few of my “babies” had a photo shoot. Rosalie is now sitting next to Tommi. The two of them are a good size match, but you can still see the 7 cm difference.

And then there are the two little babies. They showed off their outfits for the pattern, which will be uploaded soon. One is wearing cuffed pants, and the other has footed ones. The sweater is the same, and one of the hats has a pom-pom.

Monika, your babies are dressed super chic and clearly feel right at home.
Those little outfits would be perfect for Rieke, too. I’m sure the hat with the pom-poms would look great on her as well.

Marlies, you’ll be able to knit that for Rieke soon, too. It should be online by the weekend at the latest. I’m already looking forward to seeing the photo.
