March Projects 2022, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Marlene, I’d leave the shawl without a border. I also think the jagged edge is something special and makes the shawl drape beautifully.

Ruth, oh wow, that looks delicious! At least for anyone who likes a Bavarian breakfast. You did a really great job with that.

The second jacket for the twins is finished, and the pants are already on the needles. I’ll take a photo tomorrow.

Have a nice evening!

Oh yeah… I’m raving. My dollhouse had little lights like that, too—even wallpaper and carpet. I loved it. It feels like it was just yesterday.

Christina, I don’t think I could have brought myself to throw away old children’s books. It’s something special for grandchildren, too—showing them what people used to read back then. I was interested in that as a kid, too, but unfortunately my parents didn’t have any of those books left. Why not buy a little doll for your Selina and dress it up? It’s a piece of cake, and she’ll be able to play with it. That gives you plenty of time to make some nice clothes, and you can enjoy working on them in the meantime.

Oh, Petra, she’s such a cutie. :))
You’ve dressed her so adorably and beautifully.
Yeah, it’s kind of addictive. You see results quickly, and you can put a lot of ideas into practice right away. It’s also fulfilling a childhood dream of mine. Dolls like this didn’t exist back then, and doll clothes were very limited, too.

Oh, Andrea, your little Easter bunny is so cute. You did a great job! I’m admiring you all over again—for the little figures and decorations you conjure up.

Yes, the quadruplets bring me joy every day in their little basket. They’ll get all sorts of things, including seasonal items. I’m sure I’ll come up with plenty of ideas. By the way, my husband is also a train fan. :)) You were out on the balcony—in short sleeves??? I’m amazed!!!! It’s so freezing here, almost zero degrees. No way we’re going out on the balcony. I was completely frozen through after our walk. But it won’t be long now. Things will look completely different again next week.

I’m going to write down some name suggestions on a list and then decide. Jan and Tini sound cute. Let’s see what else comes up.

Oh, Ruth, that’s a good question. I’d say they’re a girl and a boy. It just kind of suits them. They don’t have names yet because they weren’t actually supposed to stay with me. But now… sigh… I’ve decided I won’t adopt any more, though.

Luckily, the basket is pretty small and fits in our living room. We both always have a good time when the twins “talk” to each other. It’s guaranteed to put us in a good mood. And my husband is—thankfully—very understanding. I’m the same way with him, though… grin. Knitting for the four of them now is really fun. Juna will get some clothes for her doll and crib for her 3rd birthday. I’ll also make a blanket for the crib. I ordered it last week and it arrived today. I’m curious to see what she’ll say about it. She loves dolls, especially dressing them up and taking their clothes off—just like I used to. When she came to visit us for Christmas, she headed straight for the dolls and teddy bears and started changing their clothes right away. I have plenty of clothes to choose from, after all. By the way, Juna also likes to dress up.

March Projects 2022, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Hey there, everyone, I’m back again. I’m just running out of time right now...
You’ve all created such lovely projects again—they’re all gorgeous.

Sandra, your ideas for the kids are truly impressive. Anton’s birthdays must be very popular if there are such great party favors.

Marlene, the Bruges crochet for the eggs looks really great. Thanks for the explanation. They look especially pretty on the branches.

Anja, I hope you’re feeling better again? That thing with your hat is so annoying. It probably won’t happen to you again, right?

Petra, our hedgehogs were only out for a little while. It’s so cold again around the clock that they’re back to sleeping. Just to be safe, we left some dry food outside, but they’ll probably only come back once spring really begins. Instead, the starlings are eating the suet balls off the bush. ;-)
I see you’re back from vacation now, as I’ve read in the meantime.

Marion, I’m already familiar with your tunics. But seeing the blue one here in full size—it’s just gorgeous. I really like the colors, too. Mine’s growing too right now, but only one round at a time. The dolls absolutely have to be dressed.

Steffi, when I order yarn, it has to be worth it—without shipping costs, of course. ;-) Well done. Your sweater turned out absolutely gorgeous. I’d love it too—the color as well. It’s kind of a masterpiece of yours.

Ruth, another pretty thing has come off your needles. Your grandchildren are in for a treat. A hand puppet is always a special treat for kids.

Now I finally have something to show, too. The tunic is slowly taking shape.

In the meantime, I have quadruplets plus the baby for Juna to dress. Yes, you read that right. All four are staying with me. The talking twins don’t have names yet, though.
I’ve finished a suit with a sweater, pants, and a hat, a jacket with a hat—and the second jacket is still on the needles, but it’ll be done today as well. Here’s what it looks like now.

And here’s what they both look like together—one of them in the outfit.

I was given an old basket with wheels to put them in. All four of them are sitting in there now.

I left the doll for Juna (the same one as here in pink) in the box for now. ;-) I have enough models to try things on, after all. The two talking twins have batteries. And I already know that my son and his wife wouldn’t be too thrilled about them. So I have these four here to play with when the girls come to visit. Maybe you can think of a name for the cheeky twins...

Well, I wish you all a wonderful week!

Have a great weekend: what are you up to?

I also wish everyone here a wonderful and creative weekend! You all have such lovely plans.

Ina, you’re lucky to have your grandson so close by. Enjoy it—this time goes by so fast. And his little sister will be here soon. That’ll be a special experience, and I’m sure you’re already really looking forward to it. It’s great that you’re doing crafts together. That’s especially fun at that age.

Inge, you’re always so incredibly hard at work with your sewing and embroidery. I’m always amazed by the ideas you come up with and put into action right away.

Petra, I’m in awe! 10 km—I guess I’m a bit of a slacker. 5 km is the most I can manage. But by then I’m completely wiped out. It’s nice to work outside when the sun’s shining. It’s still too cold for me, but spring will be here in a week.

Andrea, it doesn’t matter when you have time off. Crocheting is always a lovely pastime that brings joy.

I’m going to keep knitting for my little quadruplets. I’m really enjoying it right now.

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 Is on Its Way, Part 2.

Wow, dear Ina, I’m sooo impressed by your package and its beautiful contents. Each yarn is a real highlight in its own right.

I also find it interesting that none of the yarn I put in the package ended up with you. It found new admirers along the way. Great! Of course, that makes me happy.

Drops Safran is one of my favorite yarns. I have almost every color of it, and it’s a pleasure to knit with—and it washes well, too. I love using it for children’s and doll clothes.

Now I hope you enjoy your treasures. I’m sure you’ll show us here at some point what you’ve made with the individual balls of yarn.

I’ll definitely be participating in the next swap. It’s like Easter and Christmas rolled into one. :))

Thank you again, dear Ina, for organizing this and for all the time and love you put into it.

Wow, Andrea, what a little treasure your Susi really is. She’s held up really well at 50 years old. And you were seriously going to keep her from us?? And the knitted clothes she’s wearing, too. Those are totally rare as well. Yeah, as kids we treated them like little people. Back then, I ruined my teddy bear by “cutting his hair.” Of course, it didn’t grow back.

Does anyone recognize these older dolls?

Wow—Xenia, thank you so much for this valuable tip. I’ve now found its “siblings.” Your description actually matches this doll, because the wig is glued on. The arms and legs are completely flexible. And as I’ve now learned, the purchase may have taken place around the 1970s. That brings me a big step closer.

I imagine it would be quite difficult to make this doll yourself. It requires a lot of dexterity and patience. Just the little fingers alone...

Ines, your doll looks very similar to mine. However, the finger position is slightly different. On mine, the left hand is completely closed, like a baby’s. She also seems to be a bit chubbier.

Andrea, why don’t you show us your doll, whether she’s wearing fancy clothes or not.

Ines, it would be great if you could send a photo of your Karli sometime. He’s definitely very cute.

Marion, your first doll actually looks a lot like my boy, at least in terms of how it’s made. He does have a certain “feature,” though—you know what I mean…
The fabric doll really does look a lot like mine. Exactly the same style. Does yours have a marking somewhere that says what brand it is?

Yes, I immediately thought of a Käthe Kruse too, because it’s made in exactly the same way. Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t have a marking, and an original would have to have one. It’s definitely pretty old. What makes it special are the fingers and how flexible it is. The clothes are also from back in the day.

Oh Andrea, that’s too bad. Mine really like east-facing windows. Here, they only get the morning sun, but no heat. It’s in the dining room, and it’s always pretty cool in there. Maybe you’ll manage to get it to bloom again after all.

Does anyone recognize these older dolls?

Thank you, dear Inge. You’ve already given me some valuable clues. So I already know that the “boy” is from the ’80s. That fits pretty well.

Yes, the doll with the beautiful hair—the one that’s somehow special—could actually be that old, because my 80-year-old friend’s mother used to have her sitting on the couch. Nobody ever played with her.

Well, you had some mean brothers. That would have creeped me out, too.

Does anyone recognize these older dolls?

A question for all past and present doll moms: Who recognizes these dolls?

An 80-year-old friend gave me these little treasures so I could pass them on to someone who’ll take good care of them. However, we only know the exact name of one of them. Maybe you recognize these dolls and can help me out. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything online.

So here, I’ll just show you my new (foster) doll children.

First up is this one—this is Strampelchen, a Schildkröt doll that’s about 45 cm tall.

I don’t recognize any of the following dolls, and I haven’t been able to find out anywhere what they might be. They all date from the 1950s to the 1960s and have no brand name on their bodies.

Here’s a very old doll with pretty clothes in excellent condition—she’s only ever sat on the couch (45 cm tall). The body is made entirely of fabric, firmly stuffed, but very flexible all over. The face is painted on. It’s kind of a real work of art.

And here’s a baby doll, clearly a boy, who can wet his pants. He’s 40 cm tall.

And then I have two more tiny dolls—16 and 13 cm tall. They’re filled with something heavy, covered in fabric, and the head is made of a firm material that resembles porcelain. The face is painted on. Size-wise, they could fit in a larger dollhouse.

Now I’m curious to see if any of you can identify them—and perhaps even estimate their age.

Petra, that’s how I water mine, too... actually, I give it a bath for an hour. It loves its weekly bath, and ever since I’ve had it, it’s been blooming again and again—with just a few short breaks—in every season. I think it also depends on the owner and whether it’s loved. ;-)

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 Is on Its Way, Part 2.

Yeah, Susanne, I really hit the jackpot with my husband. He’s used to all sorts of things from me… grin. Of course, I let him have his hobbies too—that goes without saying. Whenever he tries to explain something technical to me, I always threaten to teach him how to knit and crochet… it works like a charm. ;-)
Speaking of tools… a screwdriver has gone missing from a (double) set. You wouldn’t believe how terrible that is for him. It’s just like if one of my dolls or teddy bears had gone missing.

Now I’m really curious to see Ina’s treasures.

Hard-working little elves: Where is your creativity taking you today?

I’m currently dressing the little dolls (35 cm) that my granddaughters are getting. One is almost done; now it’s time for the next one.

The Magic of Flowers

Wow, Petra, that’s absolutely beautiful! Mine has purple flowers and lots of them, too, but it probably can’t compete with yours. I love orchids, too, and really enjoy mine.

How do you care for it? Do you fertilize it?

Stitch marker

I use stitch markers just like Ruth does. The plastic ones are too thick for my liking, but they’re often very helpful for crochet projects because you can hook them onto the work.

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 Is on Its Way, Part 2.

Ines, your blankets look absolutely beautiful—and so does the pattern. You finished them so quickly—wow!

Marlies, that’s a huge haul, and every skein of yarn is gorgeous. It looks like there’s even something from me in there. I can’t wait to see what beautiful things you’ll create with it.

Men and yarn... my husband is slowly becoming a yarn connoisseur. In any case, he’s always just as excited as I am when something new arrives. He’s amazed every time he sees what I end up making with it. Luckily, he’s just as much of a swap fanatic as I am. Yes, I really appreciate his understanding—even for my ever-growing doll and teddy bear “kindergarten”... big grin...

What are you cooking today?

Well, I usually cook creatively on the fly—using whatever I have on hand. And that’s mostly vegetables, combined with whole-grain pasta, rice, millet, or quinoa.

I chop up leftover vegetables—sometimes along with diced potatoes—and toss them with olive oil, herbs, and salt. If you like, you can add some sheep’s milk cheese. Then I put it all on a baking sheet as roasted vegetables. 15 minutes at 250 degrees—so delicious! And best of all, it’s quick (except for the chopping).

Today we’re having the leftover pizza from yesterday—homemade, of course, with vegetables on top.
