Here’s something funny: As a kid, I always thought...

Well, luckily I didn’t have any older siblings who took that belief away from me. I believed in the Christ Child and the like for a very long time, and I’m still grateful for that today. As you can see, I could even write back then.

However, the fact that they scared us into behaving—I don’t think that’s so great anymore.

What's up? :-)

Heike, I hope you get well soon, too, and have a cozy bed to sleep in while you recover!

I’ve made it through the winter so far without any aches and pains. :-)
In every spare minute, I’m knitting up leftover yarn and yarn from my stash. I’ve already started another project—a poncho made from sock yarn. That’s why the sweater for my grandchild has turned into a UFO.

I’m working on that right now and will make sure it’s finished by the end of the month.

We have snow here, and I’m looking forward to a walk in the sun.

Everyone writes one line and copies the other lines before adding their own.

Here’s something funny: As a kid, I always thought...

You won’t believe it, but 60 years ago I still believed in the stork and would put sugar cubes on the windowsill so I’d get a little sibling. That was my biggest wish back then—one that never came true. Because my mom was already almost 43 when I was born.

Of course, I also believed in the Easter Bunny and the Christ Child. And in St. Nicholas.

When I was 6 years old, he came to see me on December 6. He was huge and dressed very elegantly—just like St. Nicholas, with a bishop’s mitre and that staff in his hand. He had a thick golden book with him and then read to me everything I’d gotten up to during the year. Of course, I was amazed at how he knew all that.

To win his favor, I wrote my first poem back then. I was just in my first year of school. I even still remember the first three lines:
“Dear, kind St. Nicholas,
come into our house,
unpack your good things...”

My fear of him was, of course, unfounded, because he brought wonderful gifts.

Marion, everything you’ve conjured up from the leftovers looks great!
Right now, I’m working on the second set of “Spring Meadow” using leftover yarn.
A few small leftovers will be left over, but I’ve already used up quite a bit and added some additional leftover yarn to the mix.

Your photos are really motivating me right now.

A fun door decoration and a useful helper at the same time. Meet the Guardian Bear and the Guardian Owl. They have a traffic-light function and show exactly whether the door is open or not. Keys are then no longer needed inside the apartment. These two keep watch everywhere.

Both door guardians are very easy to crochet, even for advanced beginners. All steps are well described in the pattern. You don’t need much yarn for them; leftover yarn works well too.

Handcrafting and designing children’s clothing—what do you need to keep in mind?

Some garments can be knitted or crocheted a size larger right from the start. Pant legs can be turned up at the bottom, and sleeves can be too. The length—for example, on sweaters—can also be planned well so that the garment will fit for longer.

In any case, children’s clothing should be comfortable and not itchy.

The described size fits sizes 86-92. If the sleeves and body are knitted a little longer, the sweater will fit for a bit longer, too.

Caro, I can only see your last reply on a separate page that doesn’t show the entire thread. I don’t see it here yet.

I’ve been noticing this for a few days now. When I click the link in the email, only one post appears. When I reply to it there, I don’t know if it will also show up here in the long thread.

By the way, this affects all threads. Question for the CP team: Is this intentional?

Caro, you’ve really motivated me to finish knitting this sweater. Without this challenge, it would probably still be sitting there unfinished, because I’m already working on new ideas and would rather keep going with those. Hmm… let’s see how far I get.

Josefa, everything’s still loading fine for me. There aren’t that many photos here in the thread yet, after all. That should keep things going smoothly for a while longer.

Colorful Handmade Crafts

This little door-guard bear can be crocheted wonderfully from colorful leftover yarn. I chose green and red here because of the traffic light colors. But other colors are welcome too.

The little bear is a fun eye-catcher in any home. Children especially enjoy it, but it also serves its purpose when hanging outside the study, on the toilet door, or on the bathroom door.

Here is the crochet pattern for the door-guard bear.

If you prefer owls, that is also available as a door guard.

Making the Best of Leftovers // UFO Week Feb. 21–28 // Yarn Diet // All February Projects

Yeah, I’ve also cut my wish list in half over the last few days. :-)
I’ve already used up a lot of my leftover yarn and posted the photos. Maybe I’ll add a few more things. Most of it went into the “Spring Meadow” project. That’s definitely enough for the “Flower of the Month” (grin).

I’m also going to finish crocheting one or two small tissue-packet pouches. And if I can manage it, the second cup warmer in Tunisian crochet, too.

The sweater for my granddaughter has turned into a UFO in the meantime because I’ve already started something new. Maybe I’ll manage to finish knitting it by the end of the month. Right now, it still looks like this:

Yarn Consumption / Material Consumption 2018 + Notes on Each Project

Wow, you are so good at calculating and writing things down!
That is really not my thing at all, weighing everything. I’ve also already given away quite a bit that I can’t calculate anymore. And the yarn I’m knitting with right now is super light. Before I get frustrated that it’s too little, I’d rather leave it.

But I admire you for how much you’ve worked through! :-)

For me, my diet yarn—200 g of sock yarn—will become a finished poncho this month. :-)
If I extrapolate it, I’ll probably come to 1000 kg of processed yarn, including leftovers.
