Handcrafting and designing children’s clothing—what do you need to keep in mind?

what should you keep in mind when you want to make and design clothing for babies and children?
Let me know.

Important for children’s clothing in any case is that it should be
- easy to put on and take off
- colorfast, non-irritating, not prone to shedding lint, easy to care for
- no long ribbons, strangulation hazard
- no small parts such as beads or similar, as they could be swallowed
- sew buttons on extra securely
- plan the cuts so that the garment remains wearable and does not constantly slip and need to be tugged back into place; most children have a strong urge to move

Don’t make anything in the current size. If your crafting enthusiasm wanes or your little one has a growth spurt, it’ll all have been for nothing... ;-)

Some garments can be knitted or crocheted a size larger right from the start. Pant legs can be turned up at the bottom, and sleeves can be too. The length—for example, on sweaters—can also be planned well so that the garment will fit for longer.

In any case, children’s clothing should be comfortable and not itchy.
