I used to love wearing them and had a few, but not anymore—though these days I prefer T-shirts or sweaters to blouses anyway. Sometimes I come across a pretty blouse that I like, but since it would just end up hanging in my closet, I don’t buy it.

When it comes to gifts, it depends on the recipient. I’ve experienced very different levels of “appreciation.”
My daughter (44) still treasures her crocheted christening gown. My niece kept the crocheted wool blanket she received as a baby 38 years ago and used it for her two boys. She didn’t want new blankets. “I already have my beautiful blanket.”
With my mother and sisters, it was more like they wore it once and then it ended up in the dog’s bed. A former friend was thrilled with her crocheted sweater, but then it quickly ended up in the trash.
I myself knitted a jacket about 30 years ago that I still have. I don’t wear it as often anymore, but I still do from time to time. Over 40 years ago, a dear friend gave me some pot holders. They’re not quite as pretty anymore, but I still use them, even though I’ve crocheted many pot holders myself.
When I was in school, my grandma gave me a tablecloth to embroider (cross-stitch) for my trousseau. She kept a very close eye on my progress, and it took me forever back then to finish that tablecloth. I would have loved to just throw it in the trash. Well, the tablecloth has survived and is still in great shape today, despite being 50 years old. Today, I’m grateful to my grandma for it—I still have a beautiful tablecloth and a vivid memory of her.

I finished my door wreath. I left out the leaves and made a bed of moss instead, so Mausi has a softer place to sit...

In late September/early October, I made something for the fruit and vegetable section,




decorated a cork
     
and finished an order.


Now the individual parts of my autumn door wreath are still lying in front of me, waiting to be “put together.”

As long as it’s not too wet and cold, I like fall. It’s always a joy to see the colorful displays that Mother Nature conjures up for us.
I don’t like November at all. For me, it’s the worst month of the year.

We don’t really have distinct seasons anymore, if you think back to how it used to be.
Do you see it differently?

I unraveled my knitted shawl again. It was actually supposed to be 160/180 cm, but at a width of 140 cm, it was already 95 cm long at the back. That was clearly too much and too pointy for me, so it was back to square one.
Next time I use this yarn, I’ll make something else.
Sometimes that’s just how it is: when you’ve been given yarn as a gift (2 big blue bags full), you can’t always make something with it right away.
@Inge: Your yarn has a lovely autumn color; I like it very much. I’m looking forward to your new jacket.

For us, it’s pan-fried potatoes—either boiled or jacket potatoes. I also like them with bacon and onions, Inge. :-)

“Schmuttkartoffeln” are peeled, thin-sliced potatoes (waxy variety) that are pan-fried. I like them just with onions, but they’re also prepared with bacon and onions. I love it when the onions are nice and soft and the potatoes are still a little firm (I always call them “half-cooked”). You can eat all kinds of things with them—meat, fish, eggs, vegetables. Personally, I don’t need anything else with them.
