Hardworking little helpers: What are you working on?

Andrea, what beautiful little angels—wow! Don’t say you can’t do that too. There’s always a first time. I’m sure you can do it.

Petra, you’re really good at drawing—great! I like that. I’d also like to know what color you use for that.

Hardworking little helpers: What are you working on?

Tina, I hope you get well soon, too. Give yourself the rest your body needs right now, as much as is possible with a child. That’s usually easier said than done.
Toilet paper rolls are also great for crafts with toddlers. You can wrap them up like candy and paint them. There are so many creative things you can do with them.

Marion, your scarf reminds me of that ancient pattern, too. They used to make jackets with it back in the day. I’ve knitted it before and really like it, even for hats.

I’m currently dressing the second doll baby in a winter jumpsuit. The third one is already waiting impatiently and will get its turn soon.

Here’s a photo of Lara in her new outfit. This little one won’t be cold much longer; just a few more pieces are missing.

We haven’t experienced Christmas stress in a long time either. We enjoy the holidays with delicious food, beautiful music, and everything that brings us joy. We only give gifts to our grandchildren, who receive them in the mail ahead of time.

Christmas 2022: It’s slowly getting to be time.

Doll clothes are a popular Christmas gift—for doll moms big and small. They can usually be made quickly from leftover yarn. Even while knitting, the anticipation of Christmas grows when you imagine the doll mom’s eyes lighting up when she receives the gift. It can be a real highlight.

With this clothing set, you can dress small dolls measuring 35–40 cm—from head to toe. Several variations are shown here. For example, the pants can be knitted with or without feet, and the hat with or without a pom-pom attached. You’re sure to have fun knitting it.

If you’re looking for an unusual gift, this cabled headband made of merino wool might be just the thing. It keeps you super warm and can even be worn as a loop scarf.

Knitting it is easier than you think. You’ll enjoy it.

Creative Ways to Work with Sock Yarn

You can knit many things from sock yarn. I love the color gradient and the quality, especially for children’s clothing. Sock yarn keeps you warm and washes well in the machine.

I knitted these leggings for my granddaughter when she was 3 years old. At 5, they still fit her and were an absolute favorite. Now her younger sister wears them. These leggings guarantee freedom of movement while keeping the child warmly dressed, and they can also stand up to a lot of wear.

You can also knit these leggings while watching TV. Apart from a very few places where you have to pay attention, they are easy to knit on the side.

Warm leggings are just the right thing for toddlers right now. They can move freely in them and stay nice and warm. These leggings come up high over the tummy and keep the back nice and warm, too. They’ll even grow with your child for a while, so knitting them is definitely worth it.

The yarn I used is about as thick as thin sock yarn. Experienced knitters will have no trouble recreating these leggings. They fit children from about 1.5 to 3 years old.

I knitted this hat with a shawl collar for my granddaughter because, as a baby, she didn’t like having anything pulled over her head. Her parents were delighted because now the baby always had a warm head, and at the same time, her neck and throat stayed nice and warm.

The hat is easy to knit if you have some knitting experience. The pretty pattern was created by accident and has always been very well received.

Are you in the Christmas spirit?

A few days ago, I was amazed that the first Sunday of Advent is already approaching. Because of the warm weather we had until recently, the thought of the Christmas season had completely slipped away. Now it’s suddenly right around the corner.

A little decoration can make a big difference, and I’ll get to that in the next few days. At least yesterday I baked our beloved sheet-pan gingerbread. The whole apartment smelled like Christmas.

You can find the recipe for the sheet-pan gingerbread, which is very quick to make, here:

Finally the Weekend

Oh no, Andrea, that would be a total disaster for me! I hope you feel better soon so you can get back to crocheting. Reading a book can be a nice treat every now and then, too. :)

Veronika, I hope everything works out well for you on Monday. And now, enjoy the weekend.

To everyone here, I hope you have plenty of time for your beloved knitting, crocheting, or whatever else you enjoy doing.

The weather here is truly November-like—gray, cold, rainy, and windy. So I’m grateful for a warm living room and my couch. I have a few new knitting projects waiting to be worked on.

Tomorrow I’ll also be pickling the fresh olives that just arrived. I’m really looking forward to that. I’ll probably bake a cake again, too.

Just a fun question

My balls of yarn are huddled together in the drawers, bored out of their minds, eagerly waiting for me to finally turn them into a beautiful project. Every time I open the drawer, they look at me pleadingly: “Take me with you! I want to finally fulfill my purpose and get to know the big, wide world!”

Well, there are always a few balls whose pleas I heed. The others have to be patient just a little longer. It’s a special treat for them when they get to travel along in a swap package from Ina. They love that, because they get lovingly stroked by lots of people and then get to stay with one of them. When they have to disappear into a closet for a little while, they get to meet other balls of yarn, and they all share their stories. That way, everyone forgets their boredom for a while.

My knitting needles are also happy when they finally get to work and fulfill their purpose. You see, they’re also veeeery bored by then—and yes, cold, too. They love soft, warm hands, and when the yarn glides past them, they start to glow with joy.

The next time you sort through your yarn stash, listen closely to what the balls of yarn are telling you. Maybe they’ll even tell you what they want to become one day.

Yes, Ruth, I love the CraSyTrio needles, too. I’ve never really gotten the hang of a set of double-pointed needles. For smaller doll clothes, I often need the Trio. They work great! But your little dolls really are the super-mini version.

Petra, what are you doing with those little gnome sweaters?

I’ll have something to show in the next few days, too. I’m working on several projects and am starting to lose track of them all. ;-)

Steffi, Anja, and everyone else, I hope you have lots of fun knitting.

Reasons for Crafting

I love designing something myself and then bringing it to life. This applies to crafting, but also to other areas.

When my son was born 46 years ago, that’s when my love for knitting and crocheting began. For many years, I lovingly “knitted him up” in all sorts of things. Then there was a break—until my granddaughter was born six years ago. That’s when that original joy came back, and ever since then, I’ve been knitting for my two granddaughters.

I’ve also developed a passion for making clothes for dolls—both my own and my granddaughters’. That’s what brings me the most joy.

Yes, when I’m crafting, I forget everything around me and am completely in my own world—no matter what else is going on. And that just does me good. Add some music or an audiobook or podcast to that, and the world is just right for me.

Time Required for Socks

That’s an interesting topic. It certainly depends on the yarn weight and needle size, and of course on the leg length. I really should time myself the next time I knit a pair of socks to see how long it takes me.

For me, knitting is also a form of relaxation. I don’t care at all how long I spend on it. The main thing is that it’s enjoyable.

Let your creativity run wild with these delightful craft patterns that you can download right away

Doll clothes are very popular, and not just with children. We adults are also delighted when we can dress our doll children in new outfits. Of course, that would also be a very nice idea for a Christmas gift.

This pretty, colorful clothing set fits a doll measuring approx. 45-50 cm. It can be knitted entirely from leftover yarn in any color combination you like. For example, I knitted it from the leftovers from the same colorful skirt for a toddler.

Good knitting skills are helpful here. You will have a lot of fun knitting it.

Go to the knitting pattern here.

Toddlers naturally want to change their baby doll’s diaper, too. That’s where a colorful diaper like this comes in handy. It is also easy to open and close with the hook-and-loop fastener.

A few colorful leftovers are more than enough here to bring great joy to a little doll mommy. It’s best to crochet several diapers right away. They fit dolls measuring 43-50 cm.

Right now, I’m busy with a lot of things that need my attention. That’s why I’m only here briefly to read. I haven’t finished anything new to show yet, either. I have a few things on the needles—as is often the case with me, I’m working on several projects at once. What I’m really enjoying right now is trying out new patterns—on washcloths. Two are almost done, but I’m planning to make six different patterns again.

The pattern makes it very easy. By the way, the sweater also fits small newborns.

Any toddler with a Puky, tricycle, or balance bike will love this bag, which can be easily attached. Their stuffed animal can come along for the ride, or they can carry lots of great treasures with them on the go.

The bag has a double bottom, so it’s very sturdy and can withstand a lot. Good crochet skills are required here. The result is definitely worth the effort.

Christmas Baking + Christmas Dinner

Yes, Tina, we love that sheet pan gingerbread too, and it’ll be going back in the oven soon.

I’ve written out the recipe in detail in this thread:

There are also photos there. Just looking at them makes me hungry.
