April Projects: UFO Week from April 23–30, Best of Leftovers, Yarn Diet: Final Sprint for World Domination, all April projects and of course baby and doll designs as well as spring designs

Well, I think this is great and I’m definitely in!

But we should know beforehand what colors we’ll need for the summer color campaign. That’s why the “yarn diet” can’t start until the colors are set. I’d hate to buy a color palette that I’ll never use.

So if the color campaign isn’t finalized until July, the “yarn diet” would have to start after that.

Since there are always sales in November/December—at least in my online store—it’s great that we’ll be able to stock up again then.

I’m already excited to see how it goes. And I can already tell that my next yarn purchase is going to be more of a yarn binge. The joy is even greater than before; it feels like a reward. :-)

Yeah, once I’ve stocked up on yarn in the summer, I want to go on a “yarn diet” again from fall through spring. I think it’s totally creative to whip something up from my stash. And I don’t give the moths any chance at all... *grin*.

It might be that I won’t need new yarn until June, so I’ll stick with this for another month...

Oh, and… I solved the “problem” by using a small bowl to hold the ball of yarn. ;-)

Pentecost: new designs online

Little girls want to be nicely dressed for Pentecost, too. How about this little dress that already fits a baby girl and will still fit a 3-year-old later on?

The strappy dress is easy to knit, with no seams, so it’s very beginner-friendly. The pattern explains all the steps in great detail and includes plenty of photos. However, some basic knitting skills should be available.

The strappy dress is knitted from cotton and can be worn year-round. The hearts are knitted in using purl and knit stitches. The chart is, of course, included in the pattern.

Click here for the knitting pattern for the adjustable strappy dress with knitted-in hearts.

Beginner Knitters: Which Stitches or Projects Should You Start With?

Your first project could also be a gauge swatch, for example, with 30 stitches.
You can then use it to try out different patterns, such as variations with knit and purl stitches—and also with different edge stitches.

Before I decide on a pattern, I also knit these kinds of gauge swatches. This helps me see if the width turns out differently.

It’s definitely fun.

April Projects: UFO Week from April 23–30, Best of Leftovers, Yarn Diet: Final Sprint for World Domination, all April projects and of course baby and doll designs as well as spring designs

Here’s the current progress on my new summer sweater with a mix of patterns. This is what it looks like now:

Since this morning, I’ve been working on the calculations for the upper section and trying out different options in theory first, including creating various pattern charts. Phew ... sweating ... racking my brain ...

From now on, the front and back pieces will be finished separately. For the front, I want a special two-tone paneling with an integrated V-neckline.

Final sprint and awards ceremony for March projects / Best of the Leftovers / UFO Week

Thanks, Josefa! :-)

Reading that above now, I’m amazed myself at everything I managed to accomplish in March... pat on the back. ;-)
But April is sure to be good, too. After all, I’m already two-thirds done with my new summer sweater—made from “diet yarn,” of course.

Topic: Buying Yarn

I’m currently working through my stash and, in some cases, using it exactly as I’d imagined when I bought it. After all, I want to stick with my “yarn diet” at least until the end of April. It’s easier than I thought. ;-) So it could very well be that I’ll keep it up a little longer. I never thought I’d be able to say that.

Let’s take stock, please: leftover yarn / yarn stash / yarn purchases.

Sabine, that’s enough to make anyone jealous. Sooo nice and organized! It really feels like a yarn shop. Really cool!

For me, it’s a mix of neat and chaotic. Everything I need for my next projects is scattered in different corners, waiting to be used. I’ve stashed other supplies in drawers. That way, it doesn’t look like quite as much. ;-)

Marion, your pattern looks really great—I love it! I also love timeless designs because I don’t feel like knitting or crocheting something that’s only in style for a year.

By the way—the yarn for your sweater looks great, too.

This afternoon, I’m going to enjoy the garden again and keep knitting. I’m sure I’ll make good progress.

Final sprint and awards ceremony for March projects / Best of the Leftovers / UFO Week

Josefa, thanks! That was really well written!

My UFO was just the poncho cape; everything else was made from leftovers and “diet yarn” — so, March projects. :-)

I’m still sticking to my yarn diet and want to make it to the final round for world domination ... grin. I’ll easily make it by the end of April. I’ll keep working and use up quite a bit more leftover and “diet” yarn.

It’s a lot of fun to encourage each other here.

Best regards,
Monika

Michaela, your cat blanket looks great! :-) I also love crocheting the waffle stitch.

Caro, it’s great that you’re still with us. We really are a great group, don’t you think? :-)

Wow, Marion, you’ve been really productive! I’ve also made quite a bit of progress on my summer sweater yesterday and today, and I’m currently thinking about which pattern to use next. That’s always a tough decision ... haha.

Actually ... I don’t even know what it’ll look like when it’s finished yet, because I keep coming up with new ideas as I knit. That’s what I love most about my projects.

I’ll send you a photo later of what the sweater looks like right now. Have a lovely evening, everyone!

Happy Easter, everyone: What are your plans?

Dear Ida, I’m sorry I’m only reading this now.
I’d also like to express my sympathy. It’s so wonderful to read that you cherish your mother so much. Your mother would be happy to see you living your life joyfully now. After all, as we all know, mothers always want the best for their children.

I wish you lots of strength!

Hey Dagmar and Marion, how nice that you're still on the “wool diet” in April too! :-)
The more of us there are, the more fun it is.

I’m already looking forward to your finished projects.

Right now, I find myself wondering why I’ve stockpiled so much yarn. It’s practically begging to be used, and it’s really fun to watch it dwindle.

Over Easter, I started a summer sweater for myself with lots of different knit-and-purl patterns. We’ll see when it gets finished. I also want to start a baby project on the side now. I really hope neither of them turns into a UFO, because I’m actually UFO-free at the moment. ;-)

Have a lovely week, everyone!

Warm regards from Monika

How are you all doing? How was Easter? What are your plans for this week?

Easter was great—with good food, loooads of time for crafts, and a lovely visit on Easter Monday. I’m still kind of in a vacation mood. Now the weather is fantastic, and it’s great for knitting and crocheting in the garden.

Christina, you’ve been incredibly productive - wow! And such beautiful things, too. Wonderful!

I’d already replied to you, but unfortunately the reply vanished into limbo again...
It looks like the links in the emails never lead to the threads, only to individual pages. And if someone replies there, you don’t see it in the thread.

The CP team probably has more important things to do right now than deal with this. It’s definitely annoying, though...

Caro, that’s great that you’ve stuck with it! I’m also getting through April with ease. I’ve set my sights on making a summer sweater for myself this April and am currently designing it. I’d actually bought the cotton for this project a while back, and now I’ll be able to make a big dent in my stash drawer once the sweater is finished. After all, I’ll need the space later for new yarn. ;-)

Question about felting yarn / felting

Important note: It will shrink by about 1/3 after felting!

Question about felting yarn / felting

Michaela, I also tried felting for the first time just last year—I made slippers for the whole family.
Yes, it does get stiffer and firmer than before, and most importantly, it shrinks by about a third.

Cats will surely still find it cozy. I just threw the felted piece into the washing machine at 40 degrees along with other items (without fabric softener and using liquid detergent!) and then pulled it into shape. You should definitely do this while it’s still damp.

I scoured the internet for lots of tips beforehand and then just went for it. And it worked wonderfully.

For one pair of slippers, I had to wash the pieces again at 40 degrees so they’d shrink a bit more. That worked out well, too.

I wish you the best of luck. Just go for it!
