Beginner Knitters: Which Stitches or Projects Should You Start With?

A scarf comes to mind straight away.
The best and easiest option is to knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches, and always knit the edge stitches.
That’s also a great way to learn to knit evenly right from the start.

Your first project could also be a gauge swatch, for example, with 30 stitches.
You can then use it to try out different patterns, such as variations with knit and purl stitches—and also with different edge stitches.

Before I decide on a pattern, I also knit these kinds of gauge swatches. This helps me see if the width turns out differently.

It’s definitely fun.

You can make quite a few things using garter stitch.
All you need are knit stitches.
