Current Knitting Projects / Current Crochet Projects May–June 2024

Right now, I’m working on a unique knitting project. My daughter-in-law bought a secondhand alpaca sweater that’s a little too short in the sleeves. So I’m currently figuring out how to knit the cuffs and what yarn to use.

I’ll share an update on that soon.

I saved some flowers today

That’s such a nice idea, Mel. I’m familiar with food sharing, but I didn’t know they had flowers there, too. In any case, I was really happy about this stroke of luck.

Andrea, you’ve truly earned your vacation and can now look forward to plenty of time for yourself and your family. I’m sure you already have some ideas about all the things you want to do together.

I wish everyone here a sunny and relaxing Pentecost and vacation.

Warm regards
Monika

Patchwork as Recycling

Another great piece. Inge, you always come up with new ideas for turning old things into something new, so to speak. I like doing that too, and I already have some ideas of my own...

Crazy Patchwork

Wow, Inge, I really like that backpack, too. It’s put together really skillfully. Even though it looks simple, everything has to fit together well—including the fabrics. For a pro like you, that’s no problem at all, as we can see.

Have a wonderful weekend and happy Pentecost

Thank you so much for the well-wishes!
I’d like to echo those sentiments and wish you all a warm, sunny weekend to enjoy.
We just got back from a trip to visit our grandchildren and are looking forward to spending time in the garden.

Well-reviewed patterns // May 2024 issue

Toddlers love riding their tricycles, Pukys, or balance bikes outdoors. Of course, they absolutely need a bag that fits perfectly on the front and can be easily attached and removed.

This crocheted bag makes that possible. It’s also very sturdy, with a double bottom. My two granddaughters loved it, and now the third child is enjoying it.

It’s not winter or Christmas yet, but that shouldn’t stop you from planning ahead and stocking up on items for the doll’s wardrobe. This pattern has already delighted many users, and you might feel the same way. So grab your needles and yarn and knit a pretty winter cape for the dolls. The pattern includes several sizes, so no doll will have to go without warmth.

Swap Package – These Creations Came Out of It, Part 2

Yes, Petra, we really do have a wonderful hobby. :)

Steffi, yes, I remember that yarn well. Now I like it in this color, too. It practically glows at you and begs to be knitted. It’ll definitely look great once it’s knitted up.
Maybe the white spots will create a special effect?

Knitting doll clothes from leftovers is always fun and delights doll moms big and small. Yes, doll children also like to get a new outfit now and then.

A summery clothing set for a doll (40–50 cm) is quick to finish and looks simply sweet as sugar.

Briefly and concisely introduced...

Karen, I’ve also crocheted with half double crochets before. I’m sure there are plenty of patterns here that include them.

My start to the week was really sunny. I wish you and everyone a great new week!

How about a cute baby pinafore dress with a pretty lace pattern? A very beautiful knitting project for advanced knitters. The length of the dress can be customized. It fits babies 3 months and older.

The season has begun

Andrea, that looks delicious. It looks cozy at your place too, Petra.

We enjoyed the weekend in the garden. The beds and pots are ready for the new plants—now they can move in. Unfortunately, I still have to wait a bit for some of them. But the lettuce, strawberries, and herbs have already settled into their new homes.

We’ll have two more days of summery weather here, then it’ll return to normal April temperatures. I’m so grateful for these days and for the beautiful blooms everywhere. It’s a dream.

Warm regards to everyone from Monika

Sewing Pennants for a Kids’ Party

Thanks, Petra! :)) Juna will definitely be very happy—that was her request to me.
Yes, I could definitely use a lot more time with all the ideas I have.

Ina, that’s a great idea. But I’ll have to talk to my daughter-in-law first. They keep things simple, and the apartment is pretty small. I’ll just go with my gut and come up with something. In any case, I’ll sew several in different lengths, because there’s always plenty of fabric scraps. I’m sure we’ll end up making a pennant garland for ourselves, too. :))

Thanks, Ina! Yeah, I hadn’t even thought about the corners. We’ll pad them a bit beforehand to soften them up. In any case, this is just brilliant for outdoors.

I could also see this working for our oval dining table. But first, it’s the garden table’s turn.

Acrylic yarn: good or not so good?

I feel exactly the same way as the two previous commenters. When I wear acrylic clothes, I feel like I’m in a sauna in the summer and I freeze in them in the winter. In the summer, I feel most comfortable in cotton or viscose; in the winter, in woolen clothes with cotton underneath.

But for doll clothes or decorations, I enjoy knitting and crocheting with blended yarns that contain acrylic.

My first sewing adventure with jersey

Yes, Veronika, that really makes things a lot easier. I’m currently looking for a suitable piece of flat cardboard that I can use for projects like this.

Dear Ina, thank you so much for your contribution to my sewing adventure. I got the bee fabric from our swap group; it’s been sitting around for a while, patiently waiting to become a little skirt. Unfortunately, it was only a very small piece—I would have loved to sew more with it.

Yes, stretchy fabrics are really much more comfortable than stiff ones, especially for kids. It’s easier just to get them dressed. Well, and for moms, too, since they usually don’t need to be ironed. I’m going to sew myself a skirt like this now—it’s very nice and comfortable in the summer.

Tomorrow I’ll upload the hat and the skirt to the gallery and link them to the designer’s page, in case anyone’s interested in sewing them themselves. These two patterns made it much easier for me to get back into sewing.

Best regards, Monika

Using Bobbel and Gradient Yarn for Scarves and Tops

This cardigan for toddlers is knitted from gradient cake yarn with color-coordinated stripes. This allowed me to incorporate some leftover cotton yarn and add pretty color accents to the cardigan.

I also wish everyone here who isn’t enjoying that kind of happiness lots of joy every day, despite everything. Take care of yourselves and do something nice for yourselves whenever possible.

Snuggle up warm with cozy patterns

Toddlers ages 1 and up are sure to feel comfortable in warm knitted pants like these, made from sock yarn. They’re comfortable and, best of all, they can’t slip down. That’s because they have adjustable straps, so the pants will fit for a very long time.

Christmas Market 2023

When I read Marita’s post, I got goosebumps. I completely agree with her.

Christmas begins in the heart and quietly. There’s no need for an artificially created Christmas atmosphere, which, unfortunately, is becoming more and more common at Christmas markets. Coziness in your own home, candles, eating cookies together in the afternoon, a few festive decorations—and, of course, my knitting needles and yarn.

I only love Christmas markets when they have stalls with handmade goods—handicrafts, yarn of course, wooden items, baskets, jars, candles, Christmas decorations, wreaths, and much more. One place I really like, for example, is the Christmas market at Gut Aiderbichl near Salzburg. You can always find something there, and they serve vegetarian food. The animals there are, of course, another highlight. We might very well stop by there this year.

The Christmas market in Salzburg was also a wonderful experience many years ago. I can’t say what it’s like there now, though. I still have a handmade candle from there, shaped like a red rose. A very lovely memory.
