Final Stretch and Awards Ceremony for the October Projects

Josefa, a very heartfelt thank you for your—as always—wonderful and motivating awards ceremony! You wrote that so beautifully.

I just got back from a training trip, and it’s such a joy to read this now.

Kind regards, Monika

November Projects: Fun and Title Highlights

Wow, you’ve set some big goals for November. Nothing but busy little knitting bees around here (grin)...

Ida, your scarf looks great.
Mel, you really want to knit a coat with thin yarn? Wow—you have my admiration! :)

I’ve actually been on a 4-day knitting hiatus. It’s been a long time since that happened. Now I’m back home from my training weekend and will keep working on my projects here and there.

I’ve got a baby sleeping bag on my needles—very cozy and warm. It’s already grown quite a bit during the car ride.

Then I plan to finish up my last UFO—it’s going to be a cuddly little bear. All that’s missing are a few small pieces, but those are usually the ones I don’t feel like doing...

I’m also going to start a new pair of leggings for my granddaughter. But first, I want to finish the sleeping bag. And at least one pattern should be finished this month, too.

I’m looking forward to accomplishing all of this together with you. It’s so much more fun when we do it together, and it’s incredibly motivating.

Best, Monika

October Projects: Part 2.

Here’s my summary for the awards ceremony, since I won’t have time for it over the next few days:

UFO King/Queen in October
[x] I finished several UFOs in September and have truly earned the title of UFO King/Queen.
  • my husband’s vest
  • the warm slippers for me
Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to finish the little bear—that’ll have to wait until November.
Leftover Yarn Champion in October
[x ] In September, I used up a lot of colorful leftover yarn / emptied my basket of scraps, earning myself the title of Leftover Yarn Champion.
  • I crocheted the granny squares (coasters) from colorful leftover yarn.
  • The autumn leaf is also crocheted from leftover yarn.

Yarn Diet / Yarn Emperor/Empress / Inner Slacker Conqueror in October
[ x] I didn’t buy any yarn in September and earned the title of Yarn Emperor/Empress.
I’m going to keep this up.

New: Hardworking Christmas Elves
[x ] I worked on Christmas gifts in September.
  • I worked on the little bear for my granddaughter and have already finished most of it.

Unraveling Monster Conqueror in October
[ x] In September, I partially or completely unraveled a UFO / a project I had already started and then finished it completely after all / made something beautiful / new out of it. I am therefore an Unraveling Monster Conqueror.
  • I unraveled the hat I’d already knitted for my granddaughter and used some of the yarn to knit a new one.

Learned Something New in October
[ x] I learned something new in September, which makes me a winner. :- )
  • I learned how to crochet granny squares, even when they’re round on the inside.
  • While crocheting the leaf, I also learned how to read crochet charts.

All October Projects
Number of projects completed in September: 5
Number of patterns completed/uploaded in September (for authors only): 3
Details: You can write down anything else that comes to mind here.

I uploaded lots of photos of my projects.
And I was able to do a lot of gardening because it was still so warm.

Here are the photos proving I unraveled the hat:

Thanks, Sandra. :) Yeah, I’ll probably go ahead and copy it—tonight.
I’ll be on the road first thing tomorrow morning and won’t have much time for it then.

The baby sleeping bag is already on the needles and looks great already. It’ll be finished in no time. And the baby who’ll feel right at home in there will be here soon enough. For now, we’re still “practicing”… ;-)

Thanks for the travel wishes. I’ll enjoy it.

Reformation Day + Halloween

I’m always glad when Halloween is over. I don’t like the spooky stuff and prefer cheerful things.

Since I was raised Catholic, All Saints’ Day was cemetery day for us. I always found that somehow sad and dreary. I’ve never really had a connection to graves, since only the dead body lies there and the soul has long since been set free. That’s just how I feel, of course.

Now I no longer need special days to think about people who have passed before us. They live on in my heart, even without me having to visit their dead body somewhere. Of course, I also think it’s perfectly fine if other people need this place and these days. It can be very comforting for some.

Boring? Off-putting? When do you definitely not buy a pattern?

Yes, I’d like to add that too. The yardage of the yarn is very important. That way, it’s easy to substitute.

Heinzelmännchen Tuesday: What are you working on?

I’m getting ready for a trip coming up on Thursday. Right now, I’m figuring out what I’ll knit on the go and gathering my “supplies.” :)

This morning I already baked some bread—we had it for breakfast. Baking bread is kind of like a craft, too. ;)

Right now, I’m still in the midst of “Granny fever,” and the biggest one is growing by the day.

My new project is going to be a baby sleeping bag.

Was October a good month for you?

Sofi, I wish you the courage and strength to start fresh. Life can be very turbulent at times, but the sun always peeks through the clouds every now and then—and it’s always there, even when we can’t see it.

With that in mind: here’s to a creative November.

October was better than I’d initially expected. Craft-wise, I got quite a bit done and finished some UFOs. The weather was so nice that I was even able to knit in the garden sometimes.

Boring? Off-putting? When do you definitely not buy a pattern?

The idea or product has to “grab” me—purely based on how it looks and feels. Then I take a closer look. If I then read only a very short description, just a short paragraph, I definitely won’t buy it. For example, I need to know what kind of yarn I need, what the yardage is, and how much of it.

The type of craft is also important.

Price plays a role too, though I don’t set a fixed limit. For a pattern I absolutely want and that’s very comprehensive, I’m happy to pay a good price. Because I know firsthand how much time and work goes into it.

However, the price has to match what’s offered. For a simple hat, for example, I wouldn’t pay more than 3 euros.

On the couch, I place one ball to the right, one to the left, and one on my lap.

Sandra, that’s just how men are—don’t let it get to you. They see the world completely differently anyway, and usually not from a crocheter’s perspective. ;-)

October Projects: Part 2.

Sandra, I think your table runner is really pretty too. Yes, it was definitely worth starting it over. Your mother will surely be delighted.

Fun-Design, I think your Christmas trees are great too.

After thinking it over for a long time, I finally decided today what my new projects will be. One of them will be a baby sleeping bag. The other will be a pair of leggings for my granddaughter for Christmas.

Since I have a longer car journey ahead of me on November 1, I need something that’s easy but still interesting. The sleeping bag is just right for that. Today I already knitted up a whole ball of yarn with different swatches so that I can calculate the size.

And in between, I’ll work on the granny squares. At the moment I have a larger one on the hook; I need it for the table.

Oh yes, and in November I’m also planning to make some small projects: some of my teddy bears need knitted trousers and sweaters. I can use up leftover yarn for that.

The only UFO I’ll probably take with me into November is the cuddly teddy bear. But there’s still time for that. Now it’s the small parts, and I don’t like making those quite as much.

Tomorrow I’ll take a photo of the granny squares that are finished.

Does crafting make you feel happy and balanced?

Fortunately, it’s very rare for me to get frustrated while knitting or crocheting.
It happens more when I’m crocheting, when the yarn and hook don’t really work well together and the stitches don’t glide smoothly. That’s why I don’t really like crocheting those tiny little things.

I can knit without looking, especially when the patterns are simple. It’s really relaxing.

So it’s going to be a really nice, creative weekend.
