New in November 2020

A cozy, warm pair of knitted pants that won’t slip down — that’s just what toddlers from age 1 need at this time of year. They are knitted from 6-ply sock yarn, which is durable and machine washable. The pattern will always be one of a kind, no matter how many you knit.

The straps have a special fit at the back and can be adjusted to 2 sizes. The waistband can be folded over at first, so the pants fit well from size 80 to 92.

A particularly pretty eye-catcher is the cable on the side, which also helps keep them warm by making the pants fit nicely while still being flexible enough to move comfortably with every motion.

Here I’ve fulfilled all the wishes of my granddaughter’s mother. Maybe you, too, have been looking for this solution for a long time.

Good knitting experience is needed, but all steps are described precisely in the pattern. To save ink, there is a print version and an additional version with photos.

November Projects + October Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

Ina, that’s a great idea for the filling. I’d already thought of bird sand, but that would have to go in a plastic bag. It’s even easier with pebbles. We have some lying around in the parking lot. A few missing ones won’t even be noticed. ;-) I’d already thought about a face, too. I think once I get started and am in the middle of it, the right idea will come to me. I’ll just let myself be surprised.

Wow, your hat and the loop look amazing. Those are totally my colors. Yeah, I’d thought about a hat when I saw that skein, too.

Andrea, I feel much the same way as you do, even though my family is in Germany. But they live 350 km away, and that’s way too far—especially right now. I really miss my grandchildren. But as Ina already wrote, we’re not alone here and can cheer each other up. Ever since I discovered this forum, I’ve been enjoying my crafts even more. Sharing ideas and admiring all the beautiful work is balm for the soul. Sometimes it’s almost as if we were sitting together in a cozy living room, listening to each other amid the clatter of knitting needles.

Now I’m going to get started on writing the patterns. It sometimes takes a bit of effort to get started. But of course I’m looking forward to finally packing the package for the kids, and to do that, I have to write everything down first.

November Projects + October Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

First of all, I wish all of you here a relaxing, healthy, and wonderful weekend with plenty of time for all the things you love to do.

Ina, those are really pretty decorative buttons. They look absolutely great on the shoes. I’ve never seen anything like that before.

Your doorstop is also great and a good idea. To be honest, I probably would have thought the yarn was too good to use for something like that. But now that I think about it… I also have quite a bit of thick yarn left over, mostly small amounts, and I don’t know what to do with it. A doorstop made from scraps would be a great idea. I’ve actually been toying with that idea for a long time, but I’m still missing the right design for it.

What did you fill the bag with to make it so heavy? I’d be curious to know.

Cheesecake sounds delicious… so does a cup of coffee or tea. You’ve inspired me to make myself a hot lemon drink. I love that, too.

This cute outfit for dolls and small newborns is quick and easy to knit. It’s sure to make any doll mom’s day. The outfit fits dolls that are approximately 45–50 cm tall. We intentionally left out buttons and used drawstrings instead, so it’s easy to put on and take off.

How about knitting this pretty eye-catching headband made of merino wool this weekend? It’s much easier than it looks with the front cable twist. The headband can also be worn as a loop scarf if it gets too warm on your head.

Go to the knitting pattern

A pretty pair of wrist warmers with a “faux cable” can also be knitted wonderfully over the weekend. The cable effect is created very simply with knit and purl stitches. Feminine, warm, and also an eye-catcher. Good knitting experience is recommended here. The knitting pattern includes a chart.

For men who don’t really like wearing a regular scarf, this scarf could be the solution. It doesn’t slip out of place, since everything is securely connected. Just pull it on like a loop scarf—and you’re done. There’s also a matching hat to go with it. My husband was really excited about this idea and has enjoyed wearing his scarf ever since.

Easy to make if you have good knitting experience.

Are you satisfied with October 2020?

Yes, October was a lovely month. The vibrant colors and warm weather made for some lovely long walks. I also got plenty of knitting done—sometimes even out on the balcony.

I even got to watch our hedgehogs feeding. By now, they’ve probably retreated to their winter quarters, since it’s gotten quite chilly.

I’m online less and less because I find I can relax best while knitting, designing (and writing) without the internet and all that. Still, I check in here at least once a day and enjoy participating in the forums. It’s nice to meet people here with whom I can talk about crafts.

Wow, Andrea, these are absolutely gorgeous photos—you can really lose yourself in them. Your colorful variety of leaves is incredible! Thanks for sharing. And the little guy on the plate looks very tasty, too.

I also love taking walks through the colorful fall scenery and marveling at the glow in the leaves. Once they turn colorful, unfortunately, they fall off very quickly.

Right now it’s very pleasant to keep your neck nice and warm. With this versatile collar scarf, you’ll be perfectly dressed. It can be worn open with wide necklines or under a sweater. A baby should be wrapped up nice and cozy and warm right now, especially when crawling and sitting on the floor a lot. These comfortable leggings made from cozy sock yarn are just the thing. November Projects + October Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

Thanks, Ina, for your feedback! Yes, I’ve decided that the sweater is now finished as is. I already have an idea for another sweater for Linja, but it’ll be a bit bigger and almost solid-colored. I still have enough of my light blue merino yarn to make it—probably with some other stripes mixed in, otherwise I won’t quite have enough.

Yes, I’m also very happy that I work from home and love crafting. So it’s not hard for me at all to stay home. Especially since we have nature right outside our door here for walks. And our organic grocery store delivers everything to our door once a week. We really appreciate that.

Common Crafting Mistakes

Someone once told me that every handmade piece has a mistake somewhere, no matter how small. That’s what makes it special.

I don’t necessarily want to leave it at that. However, I do have to say that when knitting complicated or larger pieces, minor mistakes can happen from time to time. I used to unravel everything because my perfectionism wouldn’t allow anything else. Today I only do that if it’s noticeable or gives a different result than I wanted.

As Ina already mentioned, checking gauge is essential. It’s not worth skipping it! Otherwise, you’ll end up with more work later when you have to unravel it.

It does sometimes happen to me that I knit too many rows when working stripes — and then have to go back. Since I can knit without looking, it also unfortunately happens that a stitch isn’t worked properly. Especially when the yarn is multi-stranded. But I’ve learned from that by now.

Another common mistake can be casting off too tightly, especially on the cuff. Then it doesn’t stretch enough and fits too tightly or doesn’t fit at all. That happened to me recently with a neckband, and I had to unravel it again. Those are learning experiences too

.

Dear Christina, Petra, Ines, and Marion, thank you for your feedback.
Yes, I’ve come to agree that the pattern is already too busy if I add anything else to it.

The buttons are actually cat buttons. I still had some on hand and think they look very cute on it.

I’d already made a similar sweater for Linja out of the same yarn, but it’s too small now. Next year, both girls will be able to wear matching outfits. :) I’ve only made a few small changes to this sweater.

Ines, I think your little Christmas decoration is adorable. Are you going to hang it on the tree?

By the way, we’re skipping Halloween with the kids this year because we’ve been in lockdown as of today. My little ghosts will surely bring joy to some people throughout the year. Up here in the countryside, only a few kids came by anyway.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Warm regards
Monika

Encounter with Our Hedgehog in the Garden

Well, we see it as a luxury villa. Hedgehogs might see it a little differently. ;-)
Basically, it doesn’t matter whether they hibernate under or next to the house in the straw. The main thing is that they’re well protected. Right now, they’re eating less, which also means they’re getting ready. The nights are already pretty cold.

Ines, every hedgehog needs its own spot to hibernate. Especially once they’re sexually mature. They’re basically loners, except when they’re still small. To hibernate, they should weigh at least 500 g. Judging by our hedgehogs, I’d say they’re probably there.

I’m really curious to see which of the spots we’ve offered they’ll prefer. :-)

Encounter with Our Hedgehog in the Garden

Yes, Ruth, I think so too. We bought the house years ago from someone who builds these houses specifically for hedgehogs. It had just been sitting in the basement until now, but we’re going to leave it in the garden year-round. In the summer, it serves as a great retreat, especially when the hedgehogs have young.

Encounter with Our Hedgehog in the Garden

Now we’ve set up a luxury winter home for our hedgehogs. We got some straw from a farmer and placed our hedgehog house next to it. Now they have a choice of what they like best. In November, we’ll add leaves and twigs on top.

We also have two corners of the garden where we’ve piled up the trimmings from the hedge. Leaves are still falling from the trees there, so everything is all set there, too.

Unfortunately, we’re probably the only ones in the area with a garden suitable for hedgehogs to sleep in. All the other yards around us are neat and tidy but look pretty bare. There aren’t any cozy nooks for sleeping there.

Here’s a photo of the luxury version. :-)

So, now I can show you the finished sweater for Linja. However, I plan to crochet another sun and sew it onto the front. The sun will then have embroidered rays around it and a face. This is what the sweater looks like now. Unfortunately, the lighting wasn’t very good today.

Now I need your advice. The sun will probably be about 8 cm. What do you think looks better—in the center of the front or on the side? I’m not quite sure yet. Or would you leave out the sun altogether?

I’m sure all the authors here are delighted to hear that.

However, the individual authors are also very happy when they receive praise through a star review on their specific products. And the best part is that, through October 31, you can even win store credit by doing so. So it’s definitely worth participating.
