TV-friendly Patterns / December Highlights 2020

This pretty, colorful skirt for 3- to 4-year-olds is perfect for knitting while watching TV. If you have knitting experience, it’s very easy. A great project for leftover yarn, too.

To the knitting pattern

These leggings for toddlers (1.5 to 3 years) are also great for knitting while watching TV. My grandchildren love wearing them. They are nice and warm and really comfortable. The specified yarn can also be replaced with sock yarn.

To the knitting pattern

This overall for dolls and teddy bears (45–50 cm tall) is quick to knit and also a great TV project. It would make a last-minute Christmas gift for the doll moms.

Do you still have all your cups in the cupboard?

@johansi

Oh, they look absolutely beautiful. That would be an absolute highlight for me.
If no one else is interested, I’d be very happy to have them. They go perfectly with my rose-patterned tableware. If no one else wants them, please send me a quick message via the contact form.

December Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

Yeah, exactly, Ines, I want to catch up on my projects first, too. For the double-knitting pieces, I just can’t decide which yarn to use. I haven’t made any progress today. And I’m slowly starting to get withdrawal symptoms—three days without knitting. It’s been ages since that happened! But there were so many other things to do. Today, for example, I finally baked some cookies.

I think double knitting is so special and so beautiful that I absolutely want to learn how to do it. And when I want something, there’s no turning back. Today I got the two finger yarn guides, and I have to say, it’s working out pretty well with them. I’ll take some photos of it tomorrow.

Ines, with your leftover yarn, you’ll be able to crochet nests soon. I always crochet them with 2 or 3 strands, usually 1 thicker one and 2 thinner ones. It works really well. The Facebook group also has patterns and tips on what the nests and dens should look like.

Ines, after “flour,” that means “sift”—so press the flour through a sieve. That’s how it was often done in the past.

Do you need any more details? I can read all of this just fine, except for that strange symbol for the amount—I don’t recognize it.

December Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

Wow, Sonja, I’m thrilled by the beautiful things you’ve designed and knitted again! The bunnies, the two cats… soooo cute. I could totally imagine this as a tapestry or pillowcase. Or even as a chair cover. The fringed edge is perfect for a cowl!

Sandra, your elves are very pretty. I’d be happier about them than about what they’re hiding. ;-)

I’ve actually taken a two-day break from knitting because I’m not sure what to make next. It’ll definitely be two projects. As soon as I get the thimble in the mail today for the two strands of yarn, I’ll continue with the cat coaster or pot holder in double knitting. So that’ll be my first real project. I still have to pick the yarn for it, though, and with so many options, I can’t make up my mind. The second project isn’t clear yet. I have too many ideas…

Have a great day, everyone!

And now there are still plenty of windows left to open. Who’s next? I’m curious to see what else is hiding in there.

December Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

Andrea, your leftover-yarn project looks really pretty; I like it. It’s a great idea to make a bathroom runner out of it.

Bergli, your suitcase for the farm shop Christmas market looks very inviting. I’m sure not many people will be able to walk past it.

Ines, your soul warmer looks pretty, but I can understand you. I don’t really like wearing something that heavy either. And it can’t be too wide for me, either.
I also think your storage basket is very pretty; it must look great in the bathroom, and quite a lot fits inside.
You’ll like the wildlife care group. When I look at the photos of the animals, it really warms my heart. I’ll probably knit my felt wool into dreys for the squirrels after all. And some leftover yarn will be crocheted into nests, too. But I won’t get to that until spring.

Ruth, my bear family has grown quite a bit already. My favorite bears sit in my living room, and by now there are already 10 of them. Some of them already have knitted outfits. But there are even more that I have in another room. I’m currently sorting them out and have already released some on my swap platform. They are collectible bears from the company ty. There was a time when I couldn’t leave any of them behind. Now I need space for other things, for example  yarn.

That’s exactly what I was about to suggest—to take a photo of the recipe and post it here. I’m sure there are some people here who can read this script—I can, too, a little bit. My mother wrote in a mix of old German script and Latin script, so I know my way around it a bit. I even still have old letters from my grandpa written in old German script, and… well, I learned it in school back then, too.

Best regards, Monika

Oh Sonja, that’s really no fun at all with the red ball of yarn and your cat. I can imagine that knitting back doubleface is quite a hassle. You’ll probably need a little protected room with no access so you can finish knitting the cowl. That cowl is really using up a huge amount of yarn. She probably just likes red that much.

Yes, Oskar—I’ve fallen even more in love with him now with the new sweater. He’s very happy with it, and it shows. :)

Today, my Oskar had a photo shoot and is now showing you his new sweater. He can easily pull it over his head, even though it doesn’t have any buttons.

Christina, here are Oskar’s body measurements. From the neck to the bottom, it’s about 20 cm, and his belly circumference is 45 cm.

December Projects Part 2: the Crazypatterns Craft Group

Petra , your balloon cover looks great. Perfect for toddlers and even for dogs. Though I’m not sure if the balloon inside will actually last very long.

Christina , my Oskar has pretty short legs (in my opinion). He’s about 45 cm tall from head to toe. But his torso is so long that his sweater could even fit bears up to 60 cm tall. It really depends on the belly circumference, too. In any case, the pattern is already in the works. It’ll include the teddy’s exact body measurements. This will be a project that’s really easy to knit. Now I just need to knit on the sleeves and the bottom hem. I unraveled that part again because the yarn was too thick. Now the bottom hem will be green. That way, I can use up a bit more leftover yarn.

Next week, my dear acquaintance—who once made Oskar for me in her teddy bear workshop—is coming to visit. She’ll surely be happy to see that I’m dressing him so lovingly.

Ina , my two granddaughters haven’t had a crib yet. They had a bed that was right next to their mom’s bed. Now Linja is getting her own bed. And of course, it should be interesting enough that she’ll want to climb into it on her own. As a child, I would have been thrilled to have a bed like your Oskar. I loved caves, just like Linja.

Bergli, I’m sure your items will be bought and loved. That’s a great offer with the Christmas farm shop. I wish you lots of success with it.
Wow, baby alpaca—that’s a dream. I think that when I buy yarn again (someday), I’ll choose exactly what I want. And alpaca will definitely be part of it.

Andrea, the yarn for the sweater is a very affordable acrylic yarn that I received as a gift. It’s surprisingly easy to work with, even though I don’t usually like acrylic. It’s called “Royal Melange” and is made by Zeeman. The color number is 89. By the way, the purple yarn for the jumpsuit was also from that same line.

Have a cozy weekend, everyone, and keep those needles clicking.

Warm regards from Monika

Steffi, that’s so nice that you wrote the gingerbread recipe in your grandma’s old book. That really makes me very happy. It’s wonderful that you treasure this book and are even continuing it. I’m sure that would make her happy too.

I also have a little book like that, which I started when I was about 30, and now, 36 years later, I’ve already started my second one. I’m sure I’ll be sharing quite a few more treats here that have been my favorite secret recipes for a very long time.

Gabi, I don’t know whether the cake can also be baked gluten-free. You’d have to try it. I think there is gluten-free flour. Just give it a try.

Delicious Banana Cake - Recipe

I’d like to share another delicious recipe with you. It’s my husband’s favorite cake—he even likes to bake it himself sometimes. It’s a great way to use up ripe bananas, especially when you have some left over. The batter is easy to make.

Ingredients:
  • 200 g butter or margarine
  • 200 g sugar or honey (I use birch sugar)
  • 3 eggs (or egg substitute)
  • 375 g whole-grain spelt flour (or spelt flour)
  • 125 g ground hazelnuts
  • 1 packet of cream of tartar baking powder
  • 2–3 bananas, depending on size
  • Chocolate coating (to top the cake after baking)

Instructions:
  • Mix the flour and hazelnuts with the baking powder
  • Blend the bananas (using a blender or immersion blender)
  • Cream the margarine with honey or sugar until fluffy
  • Stir in the eggs
  • Then stir in the flour-nut mixture, and
  • finally, the bananas
  • Mix everything into a batter and then pour it into a Bundt pan or ring cake pan
(an alternative would be to spread the batter on a baking sheet)
  • After baking, coat it with chocolate glaze or dust with powdered sugar

Variations:
  • Add chocolate chips before baking
  • Add gingerbread spice to the batter—to taste

Baking time: 40–50 minutes—depending on your oven
Temperature: 200 degrees (convection 180 degrees)

Here’s what the cake looks like when I make it:

Now I’m curious to see your results and how you like it.

Sandra, your bottle gnomes are a real hit. I just saw them now. What a great idea!
And the tool for Anton... just awesome. He really has a huge selection now.

Petra, the balloon covers are a really great way to use up scraps.
Yeah, I’ll be starting a real project in double-face soon. I’m making pot holders with cats on them to give as gifts. Today I ordered one of those thimbles that lets you separate multiple threads. Let’s see how I get along with it. I really want to give it a try.

Ines, wool with alpaca—I love that kind of blend. I still have a few skeins of that lying around, too.
My Oskar had his fitting today; he sat really still. I’ll probably have the sweater finished as early as tomorrow. Here’s what it looks like so far:

I hope you all have a cozy evening.

Weekend Projects + Last-Minute Advent + Christmas

It’s always a great joy to knit clothes for a baby. Now in winter, a baby stays nice and warm in leggings, even when crawling. They’re comfortable and quite hard-wearing, since they’re knitted from sock yarn. And they fit up to at least 1.5 years.

The leggings are easy to knit using the pattern, provided you already have some knitting experience.

To go with the leggings, you can knit this 4-piece winter set from the leftover yarn. It consists of a buttoned cowl scarf, a hat, mittens, and socks knitted with the mowi heel.

Doll clothes are always a good idea, especially when they’re nice and colorful. This jacket (RVO) with the matching hat is knitted from leftover yarn and fits dolls or teddy bears measuring 45–50 cm. It also fits small newborns.

What to do with leftover yarn / cut-off ends?

I’ve heard of using this kind of yarn as stuffing. It’s definitely well-suited for smaller items, like baby toys or something similar. In that case, though, everything should be made of the same material.

Otherwise, I could imagine using it as hair for a doll if the strands are knotted onto the head. I did that once with a doll I sewed for my son a while back.

If the strands aren’t too short, I could also imagine using them as fringe on something.

Oh Sandra, kids are so cute with the little gems they come out with. It often reminds me of my son and all the things he used to say back then. :-) It’s such a wonderful time that you never forget.

Ines, the yarn for your soul warmer looks very soft and fluffy—I really like it. Is that merino wool?

Oh wow, Bergli! You’ve really been hard at work and put so much love into it. Your customers will definitely appreciate that. I, for one, would certainly be delighted to receive such a pretty card and would really appreciate it.

I crocheted the coaster for my friend last night. She wanted it to be really simple. Now I just need to block it, and then the package is on its way. Yes, Ina, I’m really looking forward to packing it up now.

Next, I’m going to design the sweater for the big bear. He’s already waiting for it, and the yarn is all ready to go. This is what my big guy looks like—he’s handmade, and I received him as a gift once because I love teddy bears so much. He’s very special and always has to look out for the little ones. ;-) Here he is, introducing himself to you. Allow me to introduce—this is Oskar, the big one. He has movable arms and legs, a movable head, and a growling voice.
