I checked, and I’ve actually already made it past one year. I’ve been in my second year of the “wool diet” since the end of November. And now I’ll see how far I can go.

I just checked my records—the last time I bought wool was on December 17, 2019.

Hi,

I had to briefly!!! interrupt my yarn diet. I had to buy some yarn for a project.
That was back in late October.

But I’ve been sticking with it ever since.

Best regards, Heike

Hi Haekeltrulla, nice to hear from you. :-) It’s okay to take a break—keep having fun.

@Yarn Dieters:
Do we have any other successful dieters celebrating now in November/December?
We could all celebrate together with a day where you can buy as much yarn as you want without it counting as a break from the diet. :-)

Wow, Josefa, that’s a cool “cheat” offer. ;-)

I’m not sure yet if I’ll take it. I’m afraid I’ll end up on a real wool-buying spree. And I actually still want to cut down a looooot.

Now I’m really in a dilemma....

I’m going to join the Wool Diet in the new year.

Best regards, Gabi

Congratulations to Mowi19 and Wollefaden for successfully overcoming your inner sloth. :-)
You’ve truly earned your reward of buying some yarn.

Yeah, that’s probably how it goes with prolonged abstinence—you end up indulging all the more afterward (yo-yo effect!!!). I’d rather just buy the yarn I need on a regular basis...

No, there’s no yo-yo effect. The yarn diet is really doing me good, because I still have plenty in stock. And I’m going to keep going—without buying any yarn in between. So here we go into the second year.

Weren’t we supposed to get a separate thread to celebrate completing the first year?

Today I received 8 skeins of yarn as a gift. Hopefully that doesn’t count. I was really happy about it, because it’s pure alpaca yarn—in denim blue. I plan to combine it with other yarn to make a sweater for myself. I love alpaca!

This year, an allowed yarn purchase is the reward for a successful yarn diet.

Thanks, Josefa, and heartfelt congratulations, Monika. It’s great that you made it, too.

I’m sure I won’t experience any yo-yo effect either. I already stuck with it for a whole year in 2018—all the way through the summer of 2019. After that, I bought just a few skeins and haven’t bought anything since. Looking at my yarn stash, I can easily keep this “diet” going for a while longer.

Yes, Marion, I’m also glad that we’ve both stuck with this together.

If I bought yarn now, I’d feel like I was cheating myself—that’s how I see it. That’s why I won’t do it and will keep going. I just want to see how long I can keep this up and work through my yarn stash. I’m actually happy that I just received some yarn as a gift.

Well, then let’s both keep going, Marion. Great!

I started my yarn diet in November 2019 and ended it in early December of this year because I needed yarn I didn’t have.

How’s the 2021 Wool Diet going?

I haven’t bought any yarn; otherwise, I wouldn’t feel like I could stick with it this long.
My yarn diet continues. I plan to keep it up at least until fall and reduce my yarn stash a bit. I’ve now gone 13 months without buying any yarn.

Monika congratulations on sticking with it—13 months is a veeeery long time.

Of course, I'm starting over "yet again." I haven't bought anything all January—all the shops are closed, maybe that's why it was so easy for me. I have enough stash to get through a long, cold winter.

Oh, thanks, Petra! :) It doesn’t seem that long to me, since my determination to declutter is probably stronger right now than my shopping addiction. But that will definitely come back once my drawers have plenty of space.

Hey there, you’re a godsend! How great that I discovered this chat just now—I’ve been wanting to work through my wool stash for many years and now I finally have a goal. I “already” haven’t bought any wool since New Year’s Eve. I hope I can stick with it for a year; that would be absolutely amazing (because it just doesn’t work at all with chocolate!).
Hugs, and here’s to staying strong together!
Gaby

Welcome, Gaby, to the “yarn diet group” ... *grin*.
I wouldn’t be able to do that with chocolate either.
Let’s see how it goes with the yarn.

I just checked—it’s actually been a whole year since January 4, 2020, that I haven’t bought any yarn. Yippee! I’m officially joining in. It’s crazy.
Of course, I’ll keep working through my stash—it’ll last a while longer, mostly for smaller projects, but that’s okay.

Monika, I’m jealous of you—getting yarn as a gift. But then you’ll have to work through even more yarn than before :-)

Every now and then I do get the itch, and I browse through online shops. But then I think, no, I have to use up my stash first. Exactly, Monika—you’re only cheating yourself.
With this cold weather, sitting at home on the sofa, those skeins are slowly but surely disappearing.
I’m so happy—I’ve already stuck with it for a whole year. And the best part is, you can already look forward to buying more supplies again.

We can do this!

Hi Gaby , welcome!
Just being part of it is what counts, and you can do it, too. I’m sure of it.
At first, I thought, “Well, maybe three months,” but then it ended up being a whole year.
Together, we can all do this.
Of course, I couldn’t resist chocolate—that wouldn’t work for me, since I love snacking so much.

Andrea, that’s great that you’ve already made it through a whole year, too. Yes, of course I was happy about the yarn I received as a gift, but I also thought that now I have to use up even more of my stash. It’s an exception, after all. ;)

Now I’ve picked out a few skeins for a new project—a doll jacket. But that’s only a little over 100 grams again. With small items like this, it naturally takes a while to reduce the stash.

But that’s okay. The main thing is that we enjoy crafting and always have a good supply on hand. As long as I have that, I don’t need to buy anything and save money in the process. So it has a double benefit.

Hi Gaby, it’s great that we’re getting some reinforcements for the yarn diet. I’m sure you can do it, too.
After all, four of us made it this time.

Congratulations again to Marlene and Andrea—I’ve already congratulated Monika.

I’m still in it.

Yeah, yeah, New Year’s resolutions! I actually wanted to join the diet too, since I really need to work through my wool stash, but then I’m missing that one crucial color in my stash, and ordering just a single skein isn’t really an option. Plus, unfortunately, the yarn shop in our town doesn’t carry the usual cotton for amigurumi—they have very little cotton at all—and dishcloths made from merino… and they don’t have sponge yarn there either. But I keep telling myself that I really need to work through my stash more, yet since I usually tackle smaller projects, the boxes just don’t seem to get any lighter—unfortunately!

I’m going to give the Wool Diet a try—my closets are full. With 10 UFOs, there’s still plenty to do. Technically, I’d have to stick to the Wool Diet for 5 years, but I’ll start with just one.

Over in that thread, everyone who loves buying yarn and can’t—or doesn’t want to—give it up gathers. But of course, you can still go on a yarn diet.
