November Projects and October Projects 2021, Part 3: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Christina, oops, in all the excitement I completely forgot. Here are my heartfelt congratulations on your grandchild, too. You can’t help but be happy for the parents.
Unfortunately, somehow there are no grandchildren coming our way. Oh well. I can crochet things for my doll grandchildren.

Anja, that looks interesting, but at the moment I can’t quite imagine what it’s supposed to look like when it’s finished. Wishing you continued success.

Monika, you’re turbo-fast again. The baby outfit looks so colorful. The dishcloth has a great pattern. Is it only knit and purl stitches? Seed stitch around the edge, as far as I can tell. I can still manage simple knitting patterns like that.

Somehow cats and balls of yarn do go together. Cats are playful and like things soft and cozy, just like us. But luckily you were able to untangle the yarn mess.
I don’t like doing that, too impatient.

I know what you mean about Google Translate with patterns; it often comes out as gibberish.

Have a nice rest of Sunday

Finally arrived—Germany has us back

Oh man, you guys always put things into words so beautifully that it brings tears of joy to my eyes when I read them. I’m so happy.

It’s true, Marlies—that’s exactly how I walk around here, seeing how much has changed for the better, as well as for the worse. Anyway, it’s interesting.

Thanks, Marlies

I almost forgot about the time change, too. I think this whole back-and-forth with the time changes is terrible. Everyone is against it, but no one “up there” is doing anything about it. It totally throws off your internal rhythm—older people especially struggle with it.
Sleeping an extra hour is fine, but somehow it feels weird today.
Let’s see how the residents are doing tomorrow when I start my shift.

The crossing from Norway to Germany

Marlies, Ina, ruthk; yes, that’s right. There was a bit of tension, and when we arrived in Kiel, we couldn’t quite believe that we were back on German soil. We couldn’t help but jump for joy. We made it. The weight of the last few days just fell away.

On this big ferry, you need a cabin. After all, you’re traveling overnight.
I spent my last few kroner on a wonderful perfume. I saved a small amount of kroner as a souvenir.

So we’re turning a new page in our lives. Despite some initial disasters, there’s nothing better than being back home with parents, children, and relatives.

I’m glad I got to share those last moments with you.

Have a great weekend // Reformation Day and All Saints’ Day holidays / Daylight Saving Time

I wish you all a great weekend.

Today the sun is shining beautifully, and the colorful trees are glowing so beautifully. I kind of missed that a bit in Norway.
Today we’re invited to my cousin’s place for a belated birthday party, and tomorrow at noon we’re having lunch at my parents’ house.
Monday is the big day—my first day at work. I’m already nervous, but I’m looking forward to it.

Warm regards

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone,

You’ve created such amazing pieces again.
After a long time, I finally got my crochet hook out again. It just feels great. Nothing big, but I need to use up all my leftover yarn.
Maybe it’ll be enough for a little doily to put on top of the hallway bench. C2C technique.

Pumpkin Exhibition in Klaistow, Theme: “Music”

Oh, Monika, that’s such a lovely compliment. Thank you.

I’d never seen so many pumpkins all in one place before either. Such a variety of shapes and colors. Almost everyone in the family had already been there, and now I finally have too.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

We’re invited to my cousin’s birthday party on Saturday, and the glass display case I ordered is supposed to arrive then, too. We’ll see. But then we’ll have all our furniture.

Best regards

How do you prevent chaos in your leftover yarn box?

That cardboard tube idea isn’t bad either.

For smaller yarn scraps, couldn’t you also use those plastic sorting boxes with lids, like the ones used for beads?
There are also boxes where you can customize the interior compartments with removable dividers.

How do you prevent chaos in your leftover yarn box?

I’m familiar with this problem, too. I just wrapped a rubber band around the ball and tucked the label (if there is one) underneath it.
Maybe that’ll help—it works for me.

If the balls are too small, wouldn’t those Loops rubber bands work? They’re very stretchy, after all.

Making cosmetic pouches / makeup bags: any tips?

I once crocheted a cosmetic bag—or rather, a small toiletry bag—(following a free pattern, though I don’t remember where I found it).
I haven’t used it yet, though. I’ll take a photo sometime if I can find it amid all the chaos of moving.

The crossing from Norway to Germany

Hi ruthk, it’s an overnight trip. You leave Oslo at 2:00 p.m. and arrive in Kiel at 10:00 a.m.
You’ll need a cabin since you’ll be spending the night on board. It’s the large ferry, the Color Line. The Stena Line is the smaller one.

Yarn Swap Package

I’m really looking forward to it, too. I’ve never been able to take part in other swaps before because of the high shipping costs/customs fees.

One more question: are we talking about yarn in general, or does crochet thread count too?

Learning to Read Crochet Charts

Hi Veronika,
that can vary. C2C stands for crocheting from corner to corner.
Some people use the so-called “graphic” as a regular image, like the kind also used for embroidery, and also write out the color combinations row by row. I haven’t quite figured it out myself yet either.
Usually, the pattern just contains numbers and colored boxes.
Personally, the pixel color image is enough for me.

Maybe someone else can explain it to you in more detail.

Best regards, Andrea

Sitting Teddy

Wow, Inge, you sew so many things! He looks pretty big but very cuddly.
Everyone loves teddy bears—me too.

During my time in the ABM program, I got to work at “Bad Kösener Plüschtiere.” I really enjoyed it, but I didn’t like sewing plush fabric because it slips so much when you sew right sides together.
I’m more of a hobby sewist—I sew when I feel like it, just for myself.

Have a nice evening

October Projects 2021, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Have a lovely Monday afternoon,

so much has happened here again; I had to scroll through everything first. I’m a bit envious of you all because of the crafting. I just can’t get around to it—every day something else comes up, something that’s still missing or needs to be set up, and yet I still have space problems getting everything stored away.
At the weekend the place was full (children and parents, and us, all together properly celebrating the birthday again). With coffee and cake, and in the evening homemade lasagna for everyone.
Ina and Monika, what hidden talents are slumbering in you. Writing books yourselves. I never made it as far as a publisher.
But I do like writing rhymes for birthday cards or wedding newspapers. I used to make up stories myself, but mostly just for me. Writing suits me; that’s the secretary in me coming through again.
Sonja, your dino version looks promising. I also like those unicorn motifs.
But I haven’t dared to try DF yet.
Sandra, those are impressive pictures. I love rainbows.
Anja, unfortunately I can’t part with these few beaded figures; they’re staying in my possession. Most of them were made from purchased patterns, and whether I can sell them like that? The larger figures do take quite a while to string. I really need to get back to that again while my eyes and hands still cooperate (it’s so fiddly). It’s the Japanese beading technique (you can google it).
But since I’m starting my new job next week, I won’t get around to it again. Man, that’s just unfair.

Then enjoy the last autumn days, everyone
Best, Andrea

October Projects 2021, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Hello everyone,

Now that the rest of the small furniture has been assembled, and it's pretty stormy outside, I can also look in and read here in the forum again. You need a break sometimes, too.

I think Ina's idea with the traveling yarn swap package or Secret Santa swap is great. I know something like that from my bead forum. There, people string bead animals, send them on their way, and everyone gets to choose a beaded figure and puts an equivalent one back in + a small surprise gift (chocolate or similar).

So I would join in right away, because that was never possible from Norway.
I also have crochet thread and yarn that I no longer have any use for.

We just still need to set the rules.
For example, I send the package on to the next person, but that person wants wool/yarn that I don't have—what do I do then?

Maybe the same thing could also be done with crocheted shawls/knitted shawls/crochet books, etc., that you no longer like or no longer use; you simply swap with someone who thinks they're nice and would like to have them. What do you think? Or with finished crocheted figures, before you unravel them again. I'm curious to see how many will join in.

Coffee time is coming up soon.

Best wishes
Andrea

Have a lovely evening,

ruthk —your little crocheted angels look so cute. How do you stiffen them so they stand up? Christmas can’t be far off now.
Sonja, thanks for the info. -6 degrees isn’t that cold when the sun’s out—I know that from Norway, too. By the way, it’s already snowed there recently. It’s nice that we still have fall-like temperatures here, and the colorful trees always look so great.
Monika , “Turbo-Moni” sounds great. Your winter outfit for the baby already looks fantastic—those would be my colors, too. I think it looks really chic with those wide color stripes.
Anja, I’m also curious about your yarn package and what you’ll knit or crochet with it.
What’s this osteoarthritis brace like? Can you still crochet or knit while wearing it, or do you only wear it at night? My knees creak from osteoarthritis, too. We’re just not getting any younger. Still, I hope you find some relief.
Ines, I’d love to see your snowball gnomes, too. I’m looking forward to it.

I can’t show anything yet. We were putting together small pieces of furniture again today.
My fingers are already itching to get started, but I still have to sort the yarn into my fabric boxes (it’s still in the box).
