Making cosmetic pouches / makeup bags: any tips?

Have any of you ever made makeup bags / cosmetic pouches by hand?
What crafting technique did you use, and what material?
Are you familiar with this style, where you use a circular piece of fabric that you can simply cinch closed at the edge with a cord, and which may have pockets for cosmetics?
Would you like to share your experiences?

I once sewed a small makeup pouch for vacation. I put it in my beach bag along with a comb, mirror, sunscreen, and lip balm, so I didn’t have to rummage around for them all the time.
I just sewed a rectangle out of cotton fabric, lined it with coated fabric on the inside, and sewed a zipper into the top.
I imagine the circular pouch you mentioned would be pretty impractical, at least when you’re on the go. Everything would just roll right out when you pull the cord tight, wouldn’t it?

I once crocheted a cosmetic bag—or rather, a small toiletry bag—(following a free pattern, though I don’t remember where I found it).
I haven’t used it yet, though. I’ll take a photo sometime if I can find it amid all the chaos of moving.

I’ve sewn cosmetic bags in all kinds of variations—I even created a simple sewing tutorial once. I’ll check my drive to see if I still have it, and if so, I’ll post it here.
