Moving—finally arrived in Germany

A warm welcome, Andrea, to your old new home. How wonderful that you’re back in Germany and, above all, have your family nearby. You’ll surely enjoy this happiness for a long time, since you’ve missed them for so long.

You’re also having lovely weather to welcome you—Indian summer will stick around for a few more days.

You’ve already made it through your first night in the new apartment. And you’ll be able to enjoy the next few nights with joy as well—maybe with breakfast or afternoon cake with your family the next day.

In any case, I’m happy for you and wish you a relaxed and cozy settling-in period in your new home.

Warm regards from Monika

One-Skein Projects: Do You Like Getting Started Right Away with One Skein of Yarn or One Skein of Sock Yarn?

This sweater for teddy bears (45–60 cm) doesn’t even require a full skein; scraps are enough. Easy to knit top-down in the round, and the teddy bear will be well dressed for winter.

Christina, your placemat turned out aaaawesome. You can’t even tell.

Sonja, I’d already written to you because I’m really, really excited about your new idea for these pot holders. I’m going to knit them for my son and his wife. I’m already curious to see what they’ll say.

A shawl with a unicorn—that’s definitely going to be a hit! Lots of kids are really into that.

Well, now I have more work waiting for me, since we’re heading off to see our grandchildren the day after tomorrow. There’s still quite a bit to get done. Here’s a quick photo of the new Hörnchen swing—before felting. Both finished pieces will be felted next week.

What's your current favorite meal?

A vegetable stir-fry with seasonal vegetables steamed in a wok. At the end, I mix in either cooked millet, quinoa, or pasta. If you like, you can also sprinkle some feta (I use vegan feta) on top.

The vegetable stir-fry always turns out a little different because the ingredients vary.

I’m a little stressed right now—the garden on one hand and travel preparations on the other. We’re heading off to visit the grandkids again on Wednesday for three days, and my friend is coming to stay for a few weeks on Sunday. There’s still quite a bit to get done. September Projects and August Projects, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Ruth, that colorful skein is huge! It’s 200 g and 380 m. The yarn is very easy to work with, and I’m still designing what it’s going to become.

I’d already had the idea with the turquoise yarn too. For DF it might be too thick; it has 95 m per 50 g. But it would work well for a cushion in DF. That’s really a good idea.

I really like the color combination too. And since it’s 1 kilo of yarn, there’s definitely something that can be made from it. Linja will definitely get either a sweater or a summer jacket from it. Maybe even a little skirt; I still have to think about that.

Typical Crafting Mistakes

When knitting, I’ve sometimes lost count of the rows and had to unravel a few. Recently, I forgot a buttonhole… so I had to go back a few rows.

I’ve also lost count while following a pattern, but only when I wasn’t paying attention. That’s just where you need to stay focused.

But I don’t think minor mistakes in a handmade project are a big deal if only I notice them. That’s what makes a handmade project special, I tell myself. ;-)

September Projects and August Projects, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Steffi, I’m really looking forward to seeing your bag—especially how you’ll incorporate that mosaic. I can’t quite picture it yet.

Andrea, I wish you lots of joy for the final stretch and hope everything works out just as you’d imagined.

Ruth, I admire your tiny, intricate details. Your mouse board game turned out beautifully. Such cute little figures. Just adorable. Did you come up with this yourself, or is it actually a real thing?
You look absolutely great in your rainbow sweater! You’ve really done a wonderful job.

Ina, you’re also an artist when it comes to the tiniest details. That doll dress is sure to be a masterpiece again. I’m already looking forward to your new creation. Yes, the photo of Anton in his new cozy home made me so happy and gave me incredible motivation to keep going.

I’ve started a new squirrel swing with the remaining yarn. Once that’s finished, I’ll be able to felt two more and pass them on. I’m curious to see where they’ll end up.

Linja’s jacket is also finished now, and I think it turned out really beautiful.

Yeah, and then… I spotted something lovely in my swap group again and just couldn’t resist. Take a look at this beautiful yarn… it arrived with a little angel. It’s now hanging on my keychain. I already have an idea of what I’ll do with this yarn. Once the idea is fully formed, I’ll tell you all about it.

And even more yarn! I actually found another box on a shelf with about a kilo of yarn just waiting to be worked up. I got that from my swap group too and had completely forgotten about it. For now, I’ve knitted a swatch using different stitch patterns. It looks really pretty because the yarn has a bit of a sparkle to it. I’m not sure what I’ll make with it yet. Maybe you guys have an idea?

A late *guest*...

We had this pest two years ago, too, and it cost many people their boxwood trees. Since last year, they’ve recovered, because our birds have discovered the caterpillars as their new delicacy. We’ve seen them coming out of the bushes with the caterpillars. Since then, at least the boxwoods here all look fully recovered again.
