Thank you, Steffi and Ruth :) Yes, it’s really amazing that it looks different every time. I’m already looking forward to putting on my Karl.

Steffi, your dragon lady is sure to look great—it’s worth keeping on knitting it.

Ruth, your embroidered cards look great, too. I used to really enjoy doing that as well. Back then, I had plenty of time since my son was little and I was at home. Above all, there was no internet back then. ;-)

Yeah, Andrea, I can see myself doing that too—I’m actually thinking about it...

Marlies, your door wreaths are amazing! They turned out sooo beautiful!
As for the skirt, there’s no top to go with it just yet. Pretty much any T-shirt goes with it. I’m curious to see how it is received in May.

Claudia, I hope you get out of your slump soon. I know those moments—I totally understand how you feel. I’d probably feel the same way. Your cards definitely turned out really beautiful. How exactly did you make them? Did you cut everything out individually and glue it together? These days, it’s really something special to get a real card—and a handmade one at that.

I’ve now finished my projects. The only thing missing from Juna’s skirt is the elastic in the waistband. And I’ve finally finished my Karl 4. Ta-da—here’s the result:

I ordered three more yarn cakes of that yarn from Rellana. The colors are simply a dream.

happy weekend: have you all eaten up your chocolate bunnies?

Even without chocolate bunnies, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Next weekend might really feel like spring. It’s very wet here right now, so I’m cozying up with my knitting needles and yarn.

Dear Ina, I’ve been through this before, back when my son was little. But I had more time back then. Of course, I’ll get around to it again someday. I already have the fabrics, thread, and sewing machine. :)

In the meantime, I really enjoy admiring your masterpieces.

Thanks, Ruth, for the feedback on the patchwork skirt. :) I’m glad to hear that.

Wow, Petra, you really have some great ideas. I’ll try crocheting around eggs next year too, sometime in between other projects. But crocheting around CDs—that’s just brilliant. Will they be coasters, or what are you using them for? I have a few data CDs I could use for that. You’ll definitely show us some when they’re done, right? Your bread looks a lot like the one I once crocheted for Linja.

Steffi, you’ve got another complicated project on your needles. It’s sure to look great when it’s finished.
You’re all already so hard at work early in the morning. I always have to wake up slowly first. Luckily, at 69 years old, I don’t have to get up so early anymore. I really enjoy that.

Knitting a Hat / Knitting a Beanie

This baby hat with a shawl collar is very popular—among knitting moms and kids alike. My granddaughters loved wearing it. The hat keeps both the head and neck warm, and it doesn’t have to be pulled over the head—something many babies really don’t like.

It’s easy to knit, and everything is explained very clearly.

Wow, I really like the pants too—including your fabric, Inge. I also prefer them this comfortable and have a few pairs like that. If only I were as eager to sew as you and Ina are. I’m just not feeling it at all right now. But that will come eventually... for now, it’s just the wool that’s calling to me.

New in April 2023: Start crafting now

There’s new doll clothing in my shop. This time, it’s a cute little patchwork-style dress. The knitting pattern includes a few special features and variations:

  • You can use it to dress dolls ranging from 35 to 50 cm.
  • You can choose whether you want to knit a dress or a skirt.
  • You can even choose the layout of the patches—I’ll explain what’s important there.

The dress has a lovely, wide, bell-shaped cut. I’ll also explain how to achieve that. It’s really easy.

And now I hope you have lots of fun knitting and dressing your dolls—or those of your children and grandchildren.

New Knitting Patterns for April 2023: Start knitting now.

A new little doll dress has now moved into my shop, and it will bring you lots of joy while knitting. It is knitted from patches, so there are no seams. One patch is simply knitted onto the next. You can even decide while knitting whether you might only want a little skirt. Anything is possible.

This is an ideal way to use up colorful leftover yarn.

The pattern includes several sizes from 35 to 50 cm, so each of these dolls can have its own little dress.

The little dress has a lovely bell-shaped drape. I explain in the pattern what matters when knitting to achieve this result.

I hope you have lots of fun with it!

Steffi, yes, that really is a work of art. I never cease to admire your patience. And I wonder just how big your house is that you can fit all of this in. You could definitely put on an exhibition or set up a booth at a market.

Andrea, your little crocheted items are simply adorable. That little bag would be perfect for a doll. The door wreath is especially cute.

I’ve set my Karl aside for now for the final push because I was really tempted to design a patchwork skirt for Juna. It’s almost finished already. There are still two lower patches missing on the back. And the elastic still needs to go into the waistband at the top. Then I’ll crochet around the bottom, sew up the rest, and it’ll be ready for her birthday. To be honest, I’m really thrilled with how beautiful it turned out.

Here’s the current progress:

Toddlers are always nice and warm in cozy leggings made from sock yarn—which is especially important during the transitional seasons. The leggings are super comfortable for playing and even grow with them for several years.

Since they are knitted in the round throughout, they’re also great for making while watching TV. The leggings fit ages 3–5. My granddaughter loved wearing them until then.

Wowww, Steffi, what a beautiful table lantern!

Ines, your Karl looks great—a completely different take on the design in a new style—without all the stripes. Really great! I also like the long sleeves. I’ll probably knit something like that for myself this winter.

Thanks, Marlies. :) A little dress like that would surely be nice for your little one, too. The pattern is already being test-knitted.

My Karl is almost done, too—I only work on it in the evenings. During the day, I’m designing and knitting a skirt for Juna’s birthday. I’ve been itching to make it for a while now. It’s looking very promising so far. This time, I’m using Drops Safran yarn—without a color gradient. You’ll have to wait and see.

I wish all of you here a wonderful Easter holiday with your loved ones. Tomorrow we’re going to a friend’s house for a fish dinner. We’ll most likely have friends over for Easter.

April Projects and March Projects 2023, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group.

Marlene, your socks look great with the lace pattern.

Anja, that little dress is made from the same cotton yarn cake as my Karl—so from the leftovers. It’s nice and airy, which makes it perfect for summer. With dolls, it doesn’t matter anyway—they don’t sweat.

Steffi, your mammoth-sized scarf project looks fantastic. A “Karl” would be a piece of cake for you. I know you love a challenge. :)

Christina, I feel exactly the same way as you do. Knitting only knit stitches was always dull and boring for me. But since I started making the “Karls,” that’s changed. The excitement builds with every patch. I hope your husband gets well soon.

I’ve almost finished the little patch dress and the pattern for it. I’ll show you the photo tomorrow. This time I knitted with sock yarn. It looks really cute. After all, all the girl dolls want a colorful little dress like this now. I’ll also design and knit a patch dress for my younger granddaughter. If the older one likes it, she’ll get a skirt. She’s become very picky lately.

I’ve fallen in love—with Julian

Yes, Christina, I’ve noticed that too. So I’m giving the doll kids a little more attention here again. He’ll definitely be knitted up really cute, and my fingers are already itching to get started. But first, I have to finish the doll dresses that are still on the needles. Then, for the first time, I’ll be making something for baby boys, too.

Veronika, when I was a kid, I wasn’t interested in dolls at all. They were just too stiff for me and didn’t really look alive. The child in me is making up for that now. That’s why I’m so happy to have such cute doll kids like Julian and the others. I could really use 10 hands right now to bring all my ideas to life.

Ruth, you did a great job on both of those—I’d be thrilled to have something like that, too. A really lovely idea. Your daughter will be thrilled to receive something like that from her own mom.
Yes, I knitted that little dress from leftover yarn from my Karl 1 project. Thanks for the feedback.

Petra, I’ll hang up eggs like that next year, too—I won’t have time this year.
The little dress can actually be worn year-round, either on its own in the summer or with a shirt or sweater underneath. I’m starting the second one today; I’ve picked out some leftover sock yarn for it. It’ll be a bit shorter.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

I’ve fallen in love—with Julian

To all you doll moms out there:

I was actually browsing the classifieds looking for a 60-cm doll that I’d had to sell when I moved in the ’90s. And that’s when I came across Julian (that’s what I call him) and fell head over heels in love right away. My husband just said, “Why don’t you just order him?”

After some hesitation, I went ahead and did just that. And now he’s here with me. He feels just like a real baby—sooo cute! And since all my knitted items have gone to my grandchildren, I get to start fresh and gradually dress him up in cute outfits. I’m especially looking forward to that.

So there will be knitting patterns for babies again soon—including ones for boys.

This is how Julian arrived at my place:

And now he’s wearing some of my son’s old clothes that I’ve kept:

April Projects and March Projects 2023, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group.

Steffi, I admire your skill, especially when it comes to crafts. That’s just not my thing at all. I also think the “colorful” bunny is great—it’s just something special.

Now I’ll show you what else I’ve designed besides my own Karl 4. I adopted an old doll from my niece who absolutely needed a little dress. Now she has one—made from patches. It was so much fun to design it and then knit it. Now I’m knitting the second one, just a little shorter. That one’s for my Lena. It’ll fit Sternchen, too.

I spent several hours on the upper side panels—I had to unravel them 5 times until they finally fit right. The fifth time, I accidentally knitted the center panels together… grrrrr. I really had to exercise some patience there. But now it looks absolutely fantastic. I’m currently working on the pattern.

By the way, I’ve fallen in love again… with a doll. I’ll show you that today in a separate thread. Julian is now eagerly waiting for baby clothes. I’d actually given all of them away to my grandchildren.

Oh, how delicious, Petra—I’d love to stop by for a taste. We used to live near Lake Constance, and we often had Maultaschen there. The vegetarian version would be my go-to as well. Homemade ones taste so much better than the store-bought ones. And that way, you know exactly what’s in them.

On Good Friday, we have Steckerlfisch with big pretzels—we’re getting together with friends.
