Pansies

I still had an empty planter on my windowsill; in the others I sowed wildflowers that our community had handed out to
residents for free, with the idea of saving the bees and other insects.
In the last planter, from the very beginning I wanted these blooming
butterflies, as one of my godmother’s grandsons called them when he was at
Grandma’s and picked the heads off all the pansies in the flower bed. “Grandma, look,” he said,
lots of butterflings. He was about 3 years old at the time—

How pretty! I like pansies, too, but now I’d rather wait for the summer flowers—they’ll be here before you know it.

That really looks like spring. I love the “butterflies” too.

I do have a little bit of spring now after all:
