Have you bought any yarn or supplies?

Jana, I don’t know where in Switzerland you live. A Swiss online knitting friend told me that she often drives across the border to Germany to the Müller drugstore. We have those here too, and they often have very nice cotton yarns. It’s not always the same—the selection changes from time to time. So just in case you don’t have a yarn shop nearby.

Baby Patterns for Summer, Fall, and Winter

I have a baby hat with a Rapunzel cable to share.

You can find the pattern here.

The hat comes in three different sizes, from newborn to age 2. It’s knitted using two colors of yarn with a length of 150m per 50g—though the color choice is, of course, up to you.
The pattern is best suited for more experienced knitters.

What to do...

Yeah, exactly—20 to 25 degrees is the ideal temperature.
I think nothing slips anymore; it’s not just about the heat, but also the humidity. It often works pretty well at higher temperatures, but right now, there’s no chance. But washing your hands frequently does help a little.

Have a lovely weekend

This small knitted cotton bookmark is also perfect for hot weather. You can find the pattern here.

A quick and very pretty project for in between.

Have a lovely weekend

For the craft addicts who won’t let even tropical temperatures keep them away from their needles, I recommend small cotton projects for the weekend. Find yourselves a shady spot, put your feet in a bucket of ice water, and don’t overdo it!

How about potholders?

In cotton, they knit up quickly and don’t feel heavy in your hands. That keeps the sweating within limits. The pattern is simple (even thinking is exhausting in this scorching heat), and there’s also a small knitting chart.

Hats + Beanies

This hat, knitted in a bamboo stitch pattern, is both elegant and warm.

You can find the pattern here.

You’ll need yarn (85 m per 50 g) and 5 mm knitting needles. What makes this pattern special is that the hat is knitted in rows and isn’t joined into the round until further up. The buttons are also a very pretty detail.
The pattern is available in four different sizes.

Hats + Beanies

This lightweight hat made from sock yarn features a beautiful lace pattern.

You can find the pattern here.

Lace-pattern enthusiasts will love this pattern. It includes a knitting chart as well as written instructions round by round. A lovely knitted hat for fall and spring—not necessarily for the depths of winter.

What to do...

I was in the woods today, splashing my feet in the stream, and took a few photos while I was at it. I’m not really in the mood for crafts right now. Supposedly, it’ll be cooler on Sunday.

Swimming Trip

When you go to the lake or the seaside, you need a bag to pack all your things into: swimsuit, towel, snack, and small change for ice cream.

How about this one?

It's quickly knitted in cotton and has a beautiful two-color slipped-stitch pattern. It looks complicated, but in reality it's very easy.

Hats + Beanies

A cool slouchy hat that’s great for the transitional seasons is what I’d like to show you here.

You can find the pattern here.

You can knit it with sock yarn or with slightly thicker yarn. The pattern is easy—not suitable for absolute beginners, but for beginners with the courage for an adventure. You need to know how to knit in the round, and a simple mesh pattern is manageable too. But that’s no big deal!

Summer Decor + Fall Decor + Winter Decor

In summery colors, these potholders are also quite decorative in the kitchen. They are knitted from thick cotton (approx. 40 m for one) and are also suitable for beginners. You need to know how to knit and purl stitches for them.

The pattern can be found here.

Pastel Colors + Neon Colors

If you’re already looking to get ready for fall and winter, I’ve got something here in pastel colors:

a collection of knitting patterns featuring a hat and a matching cowl.

Both are knitted using 4-ply sock yarn. It’s not difficult at all—the cowl takes a little while because there are so many stitches on the needles.

Pastel Colors + Neon Colors

This scarf has bright neon colors; there’s no other way to describe it. Of course, you can also crochet it in other colors, but neon colors really make it stand out.

You can find the pattern here.

You’ll need two balls of 4-ply sock yarn and a 3.5 mm crochet hook. The pattern is simple; you just need to know chain stitches and double crochets. A tutorial explains how to make the cables.

summery + elegant

Elegant and soft, this stole can be worn in the evening with a chic dress.

You can find the pattern here.

Knitted in cotton yarn, it feels comfortable against the skin. The brioche pattern also adds to the high wearing comfort, making the stitches extra soft.
You’ll need yarn with a yardage of approx. 330 m per 100 g and 3.5 mm knitting needles. The amount needed depends on your desired size.

new knitting patterns August 2017

If you want to prepare for the cold season, you can do it quickly and easily with this cozy scarf.

You can find the pattern here.

It knits up quickly in thick yarn. It has a simple lace pattern (knitting chart included) with seed stitch ribs in between. The pattern is not suitable for knitting beginners, but it is definitely suitable for people who already have a little experience with lace patterns.

summery + elegant

A summer scarf with a generous lace pattern is an elegant accessory you can wear when you want to dress up.

The pattern is easy to follow, and when knitted in cotton, it’s also very comfortable to wear.

summery + elegant

Summery, lightweight, and very elegant, this stole is knitted from sock yarn.

You can find the pattern here.

The stole is knitted lengthwise and has an elegant lace pattern along the lower edge. The big advantage of this pattern is that you can keep knitting until the yarn runs out. That way, you can avoid those annoying leftovers.
A knitting chart helps with the lace pattern; toward the top, it then continues in very wide ribs.

New in August

This scarf is my latest addition. I suggest you wait a little while before knitting it — the outside temperature should be below 25 degrees.

But you can go ahead and get the pattern now.

Even though it’s hot right now, the time when you’ll need a warm scarf will come soon enough. This one features a lace pattern and seed stitch ribs. It knits up very quickly in thick yarn and looks great!
The pattern is written out in full and also shown in a knitting chart.

Question of the week: Are you still busy with crafts in this weather?

I just finished a pair of socks—I was almost done anyway. But that was hard work! Now I’ve grabbed some cotton yarn and a crochet hook to see what comes of it.
