Is it too warm for crafting?

It’s never too warm for crafts. If your hands get too “slippery” while crocheting or knitting, you’re sure to have something else to sew together, a craft project to work on, or you can simply start thinking about your next projects.

Repairing Worn Fabric

That works great.

My dear mother-in-law always did that, and it looked great. Sometimes even better than before.

Diamond painting.... Who’s tried it before?

I’m afraid I read this too late, Steffi. My workstation is already packed up. I’m done except for a few small bits I overlooked. Then it’s just a matter of rolling it out and putting it in the frame.

I start depending on the design. There’s a little box on my workstation where I put the cut-open packets. Then I work (depending on the design) with two to six small bowls.

A magnifying glass is a good idea. Sometimes it’s a little hard to see, especially if you don’t have eagle eyes 😂

When everything is done, I seal the bags and pack them all together into a zip-top bag. I label that with the design.

I’m curious to see how quickly you make progress and whether you enjoy it as much as I do.

Best regards
Marlies

What are you working on?

I’ve finished my diamond painting, except for a few tiny bits left and rolling it out.

Now I’m waiting for my sister-in-law to get her act together about the crocheted curtain.

What are you working on?

Aside from all the “little things” that come up here and there or are just lying around, I’ve started working on the diamond painting for our wedding anniversary.

Handicraft Boom

which, after all, there are (unfortunately) tons of on the internet.

But from a customer’s point of view, I see that "(unfortunately)"  very differently! Through free patterns, I have found authors whose patterns I just couldn’t get along with. That saved me money, which I can spend on patterns from authors I also found through free patterns.
Here in the forum, too, I have come across authors through the free patterns whom I otherwise wouldn’t necessarily have noticed. I’ve also skipped a free pattern before because it led me to a paid item by the author that I liked much better.

I’m also surprised by the pattern prices. There are super-affordable patterns offered that are excellently written, have appropriate photos, and the item is very elaborate. Then there are super-expensive patterns that consist of two pages, with spelling mistakes, bad (or no) photos, for an item you could almost make without a pattern.

If I buy an expensive pattern like that and add in the cost of the yarn, then many buyers drop out. The cost of a door wreath (complete with all materials) has risen from about €25 to €37. Then nobody buys anymore, even though “it’s sooo beautiful.”

These days, everyone has to watch their money. Still, I think many people will continue doing crafts, and that it will stay that way. Probably less, though, but in better quality.
I’m also making more for myself now and less for others.

You can apply a sealant to finished pictures. It adds strength, protects against dust, and preserves the shine. Before sealing, you should “roll out” the finished piece—this presses the stones even more firmly against the base plate and results in a better-looking picture.

I don’t know yet, Petra. We want to get together to pick out a design and measure the window and door. Let’s see if we can make it happen this week.

Those were—except for one—test pieces. I might add a few more so I can piece them together into a large blanket or a cold-weather rug for the hallway. I’m just tinkering around a lot right now 🙄

My sister-in-law asked about filet curtains. She needs new ones again. 😊

Your stones turned out great, Petra.
Unfortunately, all the ones I collected stayed with my ex. Now I have to start collecting again for my windowsill decoration idea.

Wow, Anja, you’ve been busy. I really like your blanket.
Lately, I’ve only managed to make baby crib blankets.

My projects from the last three days:

my first baby spiral socks

Flowers still need to be attached.

Have a lovely Sunday evening.

Diamond painting.... Who’s tried it before?

This is the second ship picture—it’s become a UFO now because so many other things keep getting in the way.

Silvia, I bought the little tree picture really cheap at Tedi.

Diamond painting.... Who’s tried it before?

The adhesive is already on the base. So you don’t need to apply any yourself, Silvia. You just have to be careful not to touch the adhesive surface too much. Important: Don’t peel off the protective film completely—it makes the process easier and keeps the adhesive surface from getting dirty. Pick up the tiles with the pen you’ve previously inserted into the wax pad. This keeps the tile in the pen so you can “transport” it to the desired spot.

I’ve unpacked the new set. But it still needs to lie flat so it’s easier to work with. I always place heavy books on top of it.

These are the stones, the tray for picking up the stones, as well as the pen and the wax sheet

I hope I’ve explained it reasonably well.

Diamond painting.... Who’s tried it before?

Hi Steffi,

I’ve done Ministeck too. With diamond painting, the stones are much smaller.
Petra has already picked out my little tree for me. It’s a small picture. I have another finished ship picture and one in progress. Next, I wanted to make a picture for my brother and sister-in-law for their wedding anniversary. But I’d have to get a move on with that.

You can see the tiny stones when you take a photo. But once it’s hanging on the wall, they kind of “blur together.”

I really think you’ll enjoy it.

Hugs, Marlies

I took the train, and the cake was in a large fabric bag. The ticket inspector was really interested and thrilled. She only makes sweaters and so on, but we immediately exchanged tips on places to buy yarn.

The cake was very well received! An acquaintance was also invited to breakfast. At first she thought it was a real cake. So the work was worth it, and the sun even seemed to come out very hesitantly.
Then the rain came back from midday on.

Oh dear, that's awful, Anja. I'm curious to see how things develop and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks, Anja. How’s your Karl blanket coming along? Are you making good progress?

Steffi, if you’re not entirely convinced by your yarn, I’d wait if I were you. I have a bag of yarn lying around because I thought the color was sooo great for a sweater. I ended up getting the yarn for my birthday. When it was sitting there in front of me at home... well, it’s still sitting there today.
Silence in the house is wonderful! In this four-unit building, it doesn’t get quiet until one or two o’clock. That’s become my bedtime. At 5:45 a.m., the front door slams shut for the first time. Apparently, no one in this building knows how to close a door normally.

Today I finally want to deliver my wedding cake. Hopefully it stays dry, because I’m traveling on foot and by train, and that thing is so hard to pack.

Have a wonderful, productive day.

I was busy over the weekend:

It was really fun to knit those little booties again. 😊

Is the weather as awful here as it is there? Thunderstorms and rain every day—it’s turned into a steady downpour for the past two days and nights. You’ll grow webbed feet soon. 😡

Wishing you all a cozy evening.

“Matschbrötchen”—my kids loved them. I thought those things were pretty gross.

Who else remembers those old kitchen tables where you’d pull out a drawer that hid one or two bowls for washing dishes? Grandma still had one of those.

Or the good old drip candles. I went through a lot of them, and yesterday I found two more in an old box in the basement.

Steffi, your sweater is once again in a class of its own! I admire your skill and perseverance—not to mention that I could never have pulled off a pattern like that. Reach for the scissors??? I would never have dared to do that.

Claudia, I wish you and your sister lots of strength during this difficult time. Don’t give up hope.
Your dress turned out great.

What’s Your Weather Doing?

Yesterday I went shopping early because I wanted to let another load of laundry dry outside. No sooner had I gotten home than the first downpour hit. Starting at noon, it rained very heavily almost nonstop. On top of that, there was a dreadful thunderstorm that lasted nearly 1 1/2 hours because it wouldn’t move past the Oste River. Thunderstorms and I—we just don’t mix.😨
Today doesn’t look very promising either, and it’s cooled down quite a bit.

What is this?

I agree with Claudia. I think a friend of mine—who sadly has passed away—also had something like this for her beautiful crocheted trims.
