Repairing Worn Fabric

Hi,

my jacket has a tear on the shoulder. It’s about 2 cm long, and the area is a bit worn.

Do you think I could embroider a design over it to repair it? I think that would last longer than a patch, because with a patch, it would just tear again at the new seam.

That would definitely work.

Maybe you could also use some fusible interfacing on the inside, covered with fabric, to stabilize the tear a bit so it doesn’t tear further. I often do that with my pants before sewing over the tears with running stitches. 

That works great.

My dear mother-in-law always did that, and it looked great. Sometimes even better than before.
