January Projects: Part 2

Sofi, a warm welcome to our circle of authors here. We all started out once, and we were always pleased when things began to grow.

Your hat looks beautifully colorful.

All I need now are some nice photos for the socks, and then the pattern will be finished. It should be ready by the weekend.

Maybe I’ll get back to my UFO bear after all, so it can finally land. But I can’t promise anything, because I already have the next pair of socks on my needles. ;-)

January Projects: Part 2

So, I finally took some photos of the new socks with the mowi heel to show what they look like when worn. They fit perfectly.

Here’s a photo of the men’s sock:

And here’s a photo of my sock

And here—ta-da!—both men’s socks are now finished—and with that, the complete sock parade:

Yes, Edith, this really is something completely new for me: of all things, I’ve caught sock-knitting fever. I used to really dislike knitting socks. I have more than enough yarn; I could keep knitting until the end of the year. :-)

January Projects: Part 2

Oh, Sandra, Anton has turned into such a cute little guy—just the kind you want to cuddle. :)

Thanks, Mel, for the photo. Your sock turned out really great. And the headband, too.

I mailed the little socks today—my granddaughter is already looking forward to having warm feet.
Oh, and I also found out that a second little girl is on the way. How wonderful—then all those little dresses can be worn again. And I still have plenty of ideas. All in all, I’ve already put together a nice basic wardrobe.

I’m so into knitting socks right now that I’m going to start a new pair tonight—this time with a solid-color yarn with a yardage of 150 m/50 g. They’ll turn out really nice and thick and warm. I used it to knit my test swatches and used up quite a bit of unraveling yarn in the process.

I wish you all a wonderful evening!

Love, Monika

RVO and RVU / Try out the popular raglan technique now.

The teddy bear or doll (35–40 cm tall) needs a raglan sweater too. This one is knitted with raglan from the bottom up and is also suitable for advanced beginners. There’s also a matching baby sleeping bag included in the pattern.

A great project for leftover yarn.

RVO and RVU / Try out the popular raglan technique now.

This colorful children's jacket made from merino wool was knitted using raglan from the top down (sizes 92–104). It has a hood and knitted-in pockets—children especially love that. The only seams here are on one side of each pocket. A jacket like this is perfect for spring walks.

Recommended for advanced knitters.

RVO and RVU / Try out the popular raglan technique now.

This women’s cardigan is knitted using raglan from the bottom up. There are almost no seams; only the pockets need to be sewn on along one side each. The rest is knitted in.

Thanks to the stitch pattern, the cardigan has a figure-hugging fit. It fits both size 38 and size 42, because the pattern is also nicely stretchy. The waist is slightly accentuated.

Recommended for advanced knitters.

Table Decorations and Door Decorations: Download Sensational January Ideas.

This door decoration has a very special job. The little bear and the owl are door guards. Depending on which side they show, you may open the door—or not.

They’re especially popular with children! They’re also a great way to use up leftover yarn.

Both are very easy to crochet; you only need the basic skills listed. Everything else is explained in detail.

Material quality: How important is that to you?

Quality is very important to me, especially that no animals are mistreated for it, as is often the case with regular wool from the supermarket. Since I learned that, I shop very consciously.

For me, the natural fiber content is always very high. Except for sock yarn, which usually comes with 25% synthetic fiber.

I haven't bought cheap yarn in a long time, because the result looks accordingly.

How “fast” are you at crafting?

I’m in a similar boat to some people here. If I need something or want to finish it quickly, I can get it done really fast—as long as I have the time.

But most of the time, it’s a way for me to relax, and for me the process is the point.

That said, when I have a new idea in mind, I’ll sometimes set something aside and finish it later.

Thanks, Edith and Sandra! :)

Edith, you’re really industrious. The custom-order socks are very pretty. Yes, I really like the socks with pink in them, too.

Sandra, your giraffe turned out totally cute again. You can go into mass production with that now. It’s turned into quite a whole herd by now. With those eyes, I think she’s cute too, and certainly better suited for babies.

Welcome, Blembi! It’s great to have you here! :)

Why not check out the January Projects thread—here:

You’ll be in good company there. There’s actually someone else there who knits hats—and even socks—for the homeless using sock yarn. I think that’s really great, by the way!

Maybe you’d like to join in. It’s really fun to see what everyone’s been creating. And at the end of the month, everyone is awarded a title—even if they’ve only managed to finish one piece. That’s really motivating.

Best, Monika

Wooly Wednesday: How are your leftover yarns doing? Who’s bought some yarn?

Yay, I still haven’t bought any yarn since November, but I’ve knitted up quite a bit of my “unloved” yarn. Even so, I still have so much yarn left that I’m probably set for years to come.

So I’ll keep “dieting”—and I’m happy to do it. I’m reveling in my own stash and sometimes feel like I own a store.

It’s great to have so much to choose from :)

I wish everyone here lots of fun with their crafts and, yes—a woolly Wednesday.

Hard-Working Little Elves on Tuesday

I’m now knitting my fourth pair of socks this month, and I’ll have knitted four different sizes using my newly developed simple heel—with the CraSyTrio. It’s so much fun and goes really smoothly.

Yesterday and today we had apple cake—vegan, sugar-free, yeast-free, with very little fat, and still super delicious!

I wish everyone here a wonderful evening and lots of fun with whatever you’re doing.

Felix, the Little Foundling Bear - a story for all stuffed-animal fans

Thanks, Wollbaerli! :)

At 10 months, the little ones are so sweet and cuddly... there’s still so much to discover.
We’ll be experiencing that again, and our next grandchild is due in May.

Oh, your Isidor is such a cutie. He looks a lot like the first teddy bear I had as a child. Unfortunately, I don’t have him anymore.

Maybe others here will share what they’ve experienced with their stuffed animals. I’d be very interested in that. In a way, we’re all still children at heart. :)

Creative Crafts: Looking for imaginative designs?

Bring some Easter cheer into your home already with this colorful spring meadow. You can really let your creativity run free here, because the pattern gives you various ideas—for example for egg cozies, coasters, placemats, and flower decorations.

Another big advantage is that you can crochet up lots of colorful leftover yarn here. It’s best to start right away so your Easter table is set on time.

Mosaic Pattern / Slip Stitch Pattern

The slipped-stitch pattern works great for creating mosaics. That’s what I did with my cushion cover. Here’s what it looks like in this example—the pattern was created using only slipped stitches.

However, mosaic patterns can also be created in other ways, for example by changing colors within a row. That’s a variation that’s a bit more complicated to knit.

January Projects: Part 2

Yeah, I never would have thought I’d become such a fan of knitting socks. Now I can finally use up a lot of sock yarn that’s been sitting around for years. By the way, my husband is thrilled with his second pair of socks, which now fit even better. He tried them on for the first time this morning.

Now I have the second sock for him on the needles. The pattern is almost finished, too. I’m amazed myself at everything I’ve managed to accomplish this month… I’ve used up a lot of yarn I didn’t like and even got through knitting I hadn’t liked before, which I’m now really enjoying. The socks are almost something I can knit on the side. :)

Here’s a photo of No. 4—the men’s sock that’s already finished:

And here are the 4 socks for the whole family:

Felix, the Little Foundling Bear - a story for all stuffed-animal fans

Mel, that’s such a lovely story about your daughter and Tigger.

Petra, a teddy bear museum would be right up my alley, too. I also have some older Steiff bears that I love very much. In Lindau on Lake Constance, there’s a toy store that also displays interesting old stuffed animals. It’s set up almost like a museum.

Yes, Marion, as an author, you have many talents—not just writing patterns. I love being creative in every way. Even when I’m cooking. :-)

I was really happy to receive your feedback. Thank you so much for that!

January Projects: Part 2

Mel, thank you so much for showing us your socks here. They look just like my baby socks.

While I’m at it, I can tell you that the new grandchild, due at the end of May, is another girl. At least that’s what the ultrasound says. ;-) So the little dresses and skirts can be worn twice—very practical.

Edith, I also knitted the leggings for my granddaughter using Drops’ Flora yarn. Those leggings are indestructible. She’s been wearing them for the second year now and loves them dearly.

Yes, this yarn is a dream—so cozy and warm. I love it too—just like every Drops yarn I’ve ever knitted or crocheted with.

By the way, my cardigan is knitted from the same thicker alpaca blend. I’ve been wearing it almost every day—it’s just as indestructible. I love this cardigan!

Tomorrow I’ll be able to show you the men’s sock. For that, I used a sock yarn I hadn’t liked before, but it looks great on this sock.

Wow, you’ve all been so busy!! :)

Edith, your baby clothes turned out absolutely adorable—just like everything else you show us here.

CreatOwl, your dress is amazing! I really like it, especially since you can make it as a sweater or a dress. That’s a real showpiece project.

Sandra, the socks turned out great. You’ll definitely go down in the title awards here as the Baby Socks Queen.

I’ve got my fifth pair of socks on the needles and will show you one of them as soon as I finish it.

What makes me happy is that, for all my socks so far, I’ve been able to use yarn I didn’t really like, which had been lying around for a long time.

Have a wonderful and creative day, everyone!

Love from Monika

Crocheting animals for toddlers

Hi Angelika,
have you already contacted the author via the contact form here? Just ask, because information like that really should be included in the shop listing for patterns before you buy.

Otherwise, I recommend entering your search term in the search box here. When I type “crochet animals,” this is what comes up:
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/search?keyword=tiere+häkeln

For toddlers, there just shouldn’t be any parts attached that could be swallowed.

I wish you the best of luck!

Edith, your socks are once again outstanding and one-of-a-kind. Are they knitted from leftover yarn?
I have a question for you as a sock expert:
How many stitches do you cast on for the large socks? And what needle size do you use?

I cast on 60 stitches for my husband’s and am knitting with size 3 needles. It seems kind of too big to me. Plus, I knit pretty loosely.

Felix, the Little Foundling Bear - a story for all stuffed-animal fans

Oh, thank you—I’m glad you like the story. :)
I experienced part of it myself… up until the lost-and-found office. I wrote the ending myself. And I really hope that Felix found his way back to Stefan. The photo was taken back when I found Felix. It was actually hard for me to give him up.

When I was little, I had a teddy bear that looked pretty ragged. At some point, my mom wanted to throw it into the fire. I remember those feelings well... it was as if a part of me was being rejected. And even today, I’m still attached to my favorite teddy bears.

Hand-knitted or crocheted stuffed animals are something truly special. They also contain the love of the person who made them.
