Crocheting animals for toddlers

Can you recommend a pattern (for crochet hook sizes 3 to 3.5 and a gauge of 18 stitches/20 rows = 10 x 10 cm, suitable for beginners) that I can purchase as a download? I just bought a pattern for two little owls, but unfortunately, the animals are worked with hook sizes 4 to 4.5. The listing doesn’t specify the required crochet hook size—you don’t find that out until after you’ve already purchased it.

With animals, it usually doesn’t matter much which crochet hook you use. If you work with a 3 to 3.5 mm hook instead of a 4 to 4.5 mm hook, your animal will just turn out a little smaller.
But you should definitely check out the “Crochet – Babies – Toys” section here. There are lots of animals there that are crocheted with a 3 mm hook.

Thank you so much for your information. That little black cat is absolutely adorable. I’m going to try my hand at “Oskar the Sleepy Bear” first—I’m not going to worry about the gauge and will crochet with a 3.5 hook.
