Mel, your slippers turned out great—they fit perfectly!

To all you sock knitters out there: - You’ve certainly been busy and have knitted some really beautiful socks.

I haven’t been making much this month—things just aren’t quite clicking yet.

Nadeleule, your slippers are beautiful and look really cozy—great work

I just finished Hutzelmütze 3/2019, and now it’s back to socks—thanks, Wollefaden :-)

Mel, I really love your slippers too! They’re probably nice and warm.

Edith, I’m glad you’ve brought even more life to this thread. I’ve been happily joining in for several months now. For me, it’s like being in a craft circle where we show each other our projects and can show off a little... grin. ;-)

I absolutely love seeing what everyone’s creating here. And the title awards at the end of the month really motivate me to finally finish my UFOs too. I’ve already made a lot of progress on them.

Right now, I’ve also caught sock fever because it’s really easy with my new construction. One sock for my granddaughter is almost finished already. I think I’ll be able to show you the complete pair tomorrow or the day after.

Of course, all you sock knitters here have rubbed off on me too. It’s just more fun to knit something like that together.

I wish you all a lovely day! :)
Yesterday I was already feeling spring in the air when the sun was shining so warmly... ah, it’s so lovely... today is another day like that.

Best wishes to everyone
Monika

I’ve now finished two pairs of shoes for the triplets.
I still have to make one pair in navy.

Thank you all for the compliments!

Edith, your Hutzelmütze turned out wonderfully colorful and great!
Marion, your baby booties are sooo adorable!

Wow, Marion, those baby shoes are amazing — you’re an artist!
thanks, Nadeleule :-)
Thanks, Marion, I’m really enjoying being here and feel very welcome. I enjoy sharing my projects and hope I’m not boring anyone with them. It’s fun working in a motivated group.

Monika, that last sentence was meant for you—of course, everyone else can read it too. I just realized I accidentally put the wrong name there—oh no, oh no—luckily, it doesn’t hurt ;.))

Mel and Edith, thanks for the compliments.
I’ve knitted these shoes quite a few times. It’s a pattern that’s now available here as well. But I bought it earlier, back when dawanda still existed. I didn’t even know CP then.
I really like them too.

Edith, mixing up names happens here quite often. But that’s no problem, we already know who is meant.

Thanks, Edith! I’m glad to hear that. Of course, this goes for everyone—after all, it’s only fun here when lots of people are actively participating. It’s great that you’re joining in now, especially since you have so much to show. I think it’s especially awesome that you’re giving all of this away to people who really need it.
It only gets boring here when no one shows anything anymore. Here, everyone can really keep busy. :) And everyone here is happy for the others when something beautiful is finished.

Marion, your little shoes are just adorable, especially when I imagine the triplets wearing them on their feet.

I’ll keep knitting my kids’ socks tonight and might even write up the pattern for them. Mel will be the first to test-knit the socks. I’m really looking forward to that.

Have fun crafting!

Monika

Monika, I’m really looking forward to it. A little while ago, I was about to cast on some arm warmers on the Crasy’s, but then I thought of you and set them aside again :D
I’ll keep knitting on my coat for now...
Edith, I also think it’s great that you’re so active here and delighting us with your wonderful, colorful creations. I also think it’s fantastic that it’s for a good cause!
Best wishes, Mel

Marion, I like your baby shoes too, especially because they fasten so high! As we all know, babies are masters at kicking off (and losing) their shoes—as I remember all too well, even though my “babies” are now over 30 years old!

To everyone: I enjoy seeing the pictures of your amazing creations every day—thank you!

I missed the end of the first part at first, but I’d still like to catch up on something: Nadeleule, do you have a pattern for those wonderful cabin slippers?
And a question: Do my mini socks count toward the “Sock Queen” title? Unfortunately, I don’t have time to knit their bigger siblings right now—I’m still (or once again!) crocheting my custom-order poncho, and I’d also like to finish knitting the wrist warmers for my niece as soon as possible.

Mel, you really motivate me—I think that’s great! I’ll hurry up so you can start on the socks this weekend. :)

Christina, to me, you’re the baby sock queen. ;-)

My second children’s sock is almost done now. I’ll finish it tomorrow and then show it. Now I’m going to sleep first.

See you tomorrow!

Best regards, Monika

Hello there in this not-so-new-anymore year.

You’ve all been really busy already.

Here are a few of my projects from this year:

I finally painted the homemade wooden Christmas tree before putting it in storage.
Over the holidays, it still had that rustic natural wood look.

I felt like working with Fimo again and added handles to crochet hooks for the first time.
I love the result—now I’m testing to see if they’re comfortable, too.

I’ve been crocheting Christmas trees again, since I had some yarn left over from the Christmas gifts and didn’t want to put it away—I ended up making 6 more trees...
Over the last few days, I’ve packed the trees away with the rest of the Christmas decorations for next year.

In between, I’ve been working on a tunic every now and then. I’d already crocheted the yarn into a dress, but I didn’t like it once I sewed it together.
Somehow, though, I’ve lost my enthusiasm for it—I’ve been working on it since at least August. After a few rows, it usually ends up back in the corner...

Hello, everyone! You’ve all been so hard at work!!!
I haven’t been that productive yet this year. I’ve only managed to finish two skirts and one pair of socks. I’m currently working on the second pair of socks for the Gracy Trio. But I’ve also treated myself to something special: a gobelin embroidery depicting a wolf in the moonlight. I’m working on it now—slowly but surely making progress. I get through one strand of embroidery thread almost every day, though unfortunately you need daylight for it.

Claudia, your crochet hooks look great.
Edith, I like your bonnets and socks.
Everyone: All of your projects so far have turned out beautifully.

Wow… another bag finished. It looks great, Christina!

Claudia, I like the crochet hooks, too. What a great idea to make them out of Fimo.

Sofie, you’re a real sock queen—awesome! That new title award really is worth it (for Josefa). ;-)

By the weekend, I’ll dig out the story about Felix the Foundling Bear. It’s really cute, and it’ll help you understand better that stuffed animals aren’t replaceable. :)

Have a creative start to the weekend, everyone!

Best, Monika

I just found my story about Felix the foundling bear again. Now I’m not quite sure yet whether to post it here in a thread or on my blog. It’s a 4-page short story. Maybe Josefa has an idea about that?

So, I’ve now finished my 4th pair of socks this month. These are for my granddaughter. The yarn was left over from the socks I made for my husband. Here’s what they look like:

And here’s what all three pairs look like:

Four pages is almost a bit too long for a forum post.
It depends on the line spacing and word count whether it will even fit into a single forum post. You may need to split it into several posts.

13182 Posts Recent Started

Thanks, Josefa!
The story is written in a single line and is almost 4 pages long. It has about 10,400 characters and 1,730 words.
It’s definitely better to post it in a thread instead of on a blog—right?

Thematically, this might not really fit on the blog.

Your socks look great—I’m curious to see how you’ll do the heels.
I still have some Hutzel socks on my needles; I’ll finish them today, and then I’ll make some socks for my dad—size 47, plain. That takes a bit of patience, so I usually knit something colorful on the side while I’m at it :-)

Monika, your socks look great. I can’t wait to hear your story!
I just went on a little shopping spree at A..i and bought three packages of sock yarn. So I’m all set to go :D

Until then, I’ll keep working on the coat sleeve.
I wish you all a great weekend!

Wow, size 47 is quite a size. :) And without a pattern, too....
I already think size 43 is big—those were for my husband.

Mel, I’m so glad you stocked up so well.
I’ll hurry up and get back to you.

Edith, your socks are once again outstanding and one-of-a-kind. Are they knitted from leftover yarn?
I have a question for you as a sock expert:
How many stitches do you cast on for the large socks? And what needle size do you use?

I cast on 60 stitches for my husband’s and am knitting with size 3 needles. It seems kind of too big to me. Plus, I knit pretty loosely.

Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 3:26 PM
Monika
yes, my Hitzel socks are knitted entirely from scraps; they’re called that because it sounds more interesting than scrap socks when they’re given as gifts
I divide scraps into 2 equal parts and always knit in the starting and ending threads right away, so despite all the many colors I only have one thread to weave in at the end.
All socks are always knitted on 2 sets of double-pointed needles at the same time
So always a few rounds on the first one and a few rounds on the second knitting project; that saves a lot of counting and means no annoying single socks have to wait in the basket.
I knit with needle size 2.5, not too tight and not loose either,
for sizes 42 to 44 I cast on 4 times 16, so 64 stitches
with size 3 needles, 4 times 14, so 56, should be enough

The sizes according to the Regia chart, that works well for me
Heels according to my mother-in-law’s recipe, the same one for over 45 years
my needles can almost do it by themselves by now
Toe with paired decreases.
I also like knitting socks with patterns etc., but I always do the heels and toes the same way; I don’t experiment there :-))

I’m taking a break from crocheting right now and have started sewing. My two granddaughters (both turning 5 in January) want Carnival costumes: one wants a mermaid costume, the other a unicorn costume. They won’t just be worn during Carnival—they’ll go into their big dress-up box, where they’ll be used all year round: role-playing is all the rage right now!
The mermaid costume is already finished; I’m still tinkering with the unicorn one...
Sewing isn’t really my thing, but I think it turned out pretty well.

Dear Edith, thank you! That’s already been a big help.
I actually just cast on the new socks for my husband with 56 stitches, and I think that fits better.

Well, I already had a bit of a sewing pattern—a pair of leggings as an outline for the skirt and a spaghetti-strap top from last summer. I then made a paper pattern from that.

UFO Week starts on Thursday. Are you ready?
Anyone who finishes at least one UFO—an unfinished project that’s been sitting around for a while—by the end of the month will be crowned “UFO King or Queen” by me at the awards ceremony. That’s a great honor, of course. :-)

Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 3:17 PM

Dad’s socks will have to wait a bit; they won’t be needed until the end of February :-)
I have an order to finish
I knitted the baby sweater in November 2018 and have now sold it as a set with a little hat and baby socks. The little hat and socks were knitted on 1/19/2019
I’m also adding 2 pairs of women’s socks, size 38, made from hand-dyed sock yarn; hopefully I’ll get them done by around the middle of the week

You’ve all finished some great projects again.
Edith: That baby set is absolutely adorable

CreatOwl: That dress looks great. Will there be a pattern for it?

I’ve finished the birthday socks for my friend—made from scraps left over from the baby blanket.
Now there’s just a tiny bit of green yarn left. I’ll have to see if I can make some little booties or something for the little one out of it. But that can wait. Since my friend’s birthday is tomorrow, I have to get the socks to the post office.

Wow, you’ve all been so busy!! :)

Edith, your baby clothes turned out absolutely adorable—just like everything else you show us here.

CreatOwl, your dress is amazing! I really like it, especially since you can make it as a sweater or a dress. That’s a real showpiece project.

Sandra, the socks turned out great. You’ll definitely go down in the title awards here as the Baby Socks Queen.

I’ve got my fifth pair of socks on the needles and will show you one of them as soon as I finish it.

What makes me happy is that, for all my socks so far, I’ve been able to use yarn I didn’t really like, which had been lying around for a long time.

Have a wonderful and creative day, everyone!

Love from Monika

Mel, thank you so much for showing us your socks here. They look just like my baby socks.

While I’m at it, I can tell you that the new grandchild, due at the end of May, is another girl. At least that’s what the ultrasound says. ;-) So the little dresses and skirts can be worn twice—very practical.

Edith, I also knitted the leggings for my granddaughter using Drops’ Flora yarn. Those leggings are indestructible. She’s been wearing them for the second year now and loves them dearly.

Yes, this yarn is a dream—so cozy and warm. I love it too—just like every Drops yarn I’ve ever knitted or crocheted with.

By the way, my cardigan is knitted from the same thicker alpaca blend. I’ve been wearing it almost every day—it’s just as indestructible. I love this cardigan!

Tomorrow I’ll be able to show you the men’s sock. For that, I used a sock yarn I hadn’t liked before, but it looks great on this sock.

A lot has happened here.
I’ve been admiring your amazing creations—each one is more beautiful than the last.

Apparently, some of you are real sock fans. Monika, your heel looks interesting.

I’ve started an amigurumi in the meantime. It’s a gift that has to be finished by mid-February. Since I’m using a different yarn than what’s specified in the pattern, it’s turning out bigger. It’s slowly taking shape.
I’ll show it to you when it’s done.
Keep having fun knitting socks!

Yeah, I never would have thought I’d become such a fan of knitting socks. Now I can finally use up a lot of sock yarn that’s been sitting around for years. By the way, my husband is thrilled with his second pair of socks, which now fit even better. He tried them on for the first time this morning.

Now I have the second sock for him on the needles. The pattern is almost finished, too. I’m amazed myself at everything I’ve managed to accomplish this month… I’ve used up a lot of yarn I didn’t like and even got through knitting I hadn’t liked before, which I’m now really enjoying. The socks are almost something I can knit on the side. :)

Here’s a photo of No. 4—the men’s sock that’s already finished:

And here are the 4 socks for the whole family:

As soon as I get my CraSyTrio in size 2.5—made of bamboo, by the way—I’ll knit some more baby and kids’ socks from the leftovers.

It is UFO Week, after all... hmm. Maybe I’ll actually tackle that little bear again—the one that still needs to be finished... it’s still driving me crazy. ;-)

Monika: Your sock collection looks great.

I’ve finished another giraffe. This one is for a 40th birthday. This time I used safety eyes. I was never sure if they were suitable for crocheted items for babies. But I have to say, I’m thrilled. :-)))

Edith, you’re really industrious. The custom-order socks are very pretty. Yes, I really like the socks with pink in them, too.

Sandra, your giraffe turned out totally cute again. You can go into mass production with that now. It’s turned into quite a whole herd by now. With those eyes, I think she’s cute too, and certainly better suited for babies.

The giraffe is sooo cute!!!! And I think the socks are cool, too.
My socks, which I’d started, are on hold for now because I’ve begun working on a summer skirt. On Tuesday, I was at the knitting café, and the craft store already had the first summer yarn in stock—I just couldn’t resist. So I picked up a few skeins, and my crochet hook is now working its way through a summer skirt pattern.

Oh, Sandra, Anton has turned into such a cute little guy—just the kind you want to cuddle. :)

Thanks, Mel, for the photo. Your sock turned out really great. And the headband, too.

I mailed the little socks today—my granddaughter is already looking forward to having warm feet.
Oh, and I also found out that a second little girl is on the way. How wonderful—then all those little dresses can be worn again. And I still have plenty of ideas. All in all, I’ve already put together a nice basic wardrobe.

I’m so into knitting socks right now that I’m going to start a new pair tonight—this time with a solid-color yarn with a yardage of 150 m/50 g. They’ll turn out really nice and thick and warm. I used it to knit my test swatches and used up quite a bit of unraveling yarn in the process.

I wish you all a wonderful evening!

Love, Monika

Cute little guy, little Anton—thanks for the photo, dear Sandra.

Ooh, Monika, it looks like you’ve really caught the knitting bug—the only cure for knitting fever is lots of beautiful yarn :-))
Nadeleule, that’s a great headband—your daughter will be thrilled, and your Mowi test socks look super comfortable—kudos

So, I finally took some photos of the new socks with the mowi heel to show what they look like when worn. They fit perfectly.

Here’s a photo of the men’s sock:

And here’s a photo of my sock

And here—ta-da!—both men’s socks are now finished—and with that, the complete sock parade:

Yes, Edith, this really is something completely new for me: of all things, I’ve caught sock-knitting fever. I used to really dislike knitting socks. I have more than enough yarn; I could keep knitting until the end of the year. :-)

Sofi, a warm welcome to our circle of authors here. We all started out once, and we were always pleased when things began to grow.

Your hat looks beautifully colorful.

All I need now are some nice photos for the socks, and then the pattern will be finished. It should be ready by the weekend.

Maybe I’ll get back to my UFO bear after all, so it can finally land. But I can’t promise anything, because I already have the next pair of socks on my needles. ;-)

I was absolutely horrified to discover that I still had a box of UFOs hidden away in an old, forgotten corner of my needlework/craft table!!! Now I have to go through it all to figure out what’s actually still in there, what I can still use, and what still needs to be finished.

Very uncharacteristically for me, I’ve created a UFO... While knitting the test socks, I cast on a sock cuff using wonderfully soft, green yarn, but it turned out to be too tight for my foot. Since I liked the piece I’d started so much, though, it’s now going to become a wrist warmer. But only after I’ve finished the second sock for myself, the socks for my husband, and my coat....

Wow, Mel, you’ve still got quite a bit ahead of you. ;-)

Edith, your sock production is truly impressive. Size 47 is huge. I already found size 43 to be veeeery long.

I only have one UFO right now… still. This weekend, I’m finally going to give it the attention it deserves and keep crocheting on it. Maybe I’ll manage to finish it, and then I’ll show it to you all. It’s a little bear based on a pattern by Otterthaler Häkelmaus. I fell in love with it instantly… and that’s why I’ll probably make it for myself as a birthday present.

I wish you all a wonderful evening!

Best, Monika

P.S.: Tell me, do you also feel like January is going on forever? Or have we just been posting a lot more in the January thread than usual?

Yes, it’s incredibly long, and yes, we’ve written a lot.

But I’m already on my 9th project. I haven’t managed to do that much in the last few months. I was always busy with the baby blanket, after all. :-)

Wow, Sandra—9 projects!! You’ve been super busy! :)
I’m sure Josefa will give you extra diligence points for that.

I haven’t even counted yet... I think I was mostly busy with socks. ;-)

Wow Sandra, 9 projects — you've been quite industrious.
Monika, I don't count mine either :-))

Anja, this is a new method I’ve developed for knitting a very simple heel on socks. My two test knitters also had good results with it. I’ve gone from being a sock skeptic to a sock fan. :)

Yes, Ruth, tomorrow is zero hour. I’ll take another photo before then, and then it’ll be perfect.

Hi Monika,

Great idea! I don’t knit socks for two reasons:
1. The heel (I just can’t get it right—I always end up with holes)
2. A set of double-pointed needles (it’s better with two circular needles)

If you adapt your pattern for circular needles (the Crazy Trio would follow the same principle), then I’ll give socks another try!

Anja, yes, I’m knitting with the CraSyTrio. It’s going wonderfully now.
I used to have those same two reasons for not wanting to knit socks. I’m really grateful to the inventors of the CraSyTrio, because a set of double-pointed needles isn’t exactly my favorite tool. ;-)

My first practice sock is finished.
I’ll make the next one with fewer stitches.
Using double yarn makes it a bit bigger after all.

CreatOwl, your reversible socks look really interesting. How do you go about weaving in the ends?

I’ve woven in the ends where the seam is, Moni.

@moni: Then I’m really looking forward to the pattern.

I’d absolutely love to make some sneaker socks like that—to wear as slippers at home ♡

Thanks, Edith :)

Next week I’ll knit the socks with sock yarn—I’ll buy the missing solid-color yarn then.

Yes, Anja, that’s true, but it was worth it.
A dear friend of mine has a pug. When I saw this pattern, I just had to buy it. Her birthday is in February, and I’m giving it to her as a gift.

Edith, you busy bee—how nice that someone else will have a warm head again. :)

Wow, Marion, you’ve really outdone yourself. Such a cute pug—it’s even cuddlier than a real one. Great gift!

I’ve been crocheting on my little bear UFO today and I’m almost at my wits’ end. It’s not that easy with the fuzzy yarn because you can’t really see the stitches. I really got myself into this mess… But I’m sticking with it. Only two legs left, and I’m going to try to finish them by Wednesday.

I discovered another UFO today. That one will be done by February at the latest. It’s a crocheted cover for my thermos flask. Photos coming tomorrow.

Well, and then I also have a pair of socks for my granddaughter that I want to finish knitting today. They’re made from unraveled yarn. Unfortunately, the finished pair was still too big. Oh well, that’s what happens when you don’t have the size on hand. But it’s no big deal—they’ll just fit later.

Have a lovely evening, and enjoy your crafting! :)

Love, Monika

Monika, if you crochet with a carry-along yarn, it’ll be easier to find the stitches.

CreatOwl, Mel, and Monika
Thanks for your praise.
I think she’ll be really happy with the pug, too.
It looks almost real because it turned out quite a bit bigger. I used a different kind of yarn.
And Monika, I was at my wits’ end at times, too. The pattern wasn’t quite perfect, but it all worked out in the end.
I’d love to keep it for myself, but I’m giving it away anyway.

Yeah, Marion, I can totally see why you’d want to keep it for yourself. I’m keeping my little bear for myself now, too. It’s going to be so cute—I can already tell. And that’s motivation enough for me to finally finish crocheting it.

Ruth, that’s a great idea. But… if I switch to a different yarn in a different color now, it’ll show. I probably should have done that from the start.

The yarn itself is very thin, but the fluff around it is testing my patience and nerves. I’ve never had to rip out so much of a project before because the stitch count kept being off.

The reward is that it already feels totally fluffy and cuddly.

The MOps is totally cute—just like a real one. Mowi, stick with that little bear—it’s definitely worth it.

My dog got really sick over the weekend. I’m in bed with the flu, but I’m still taking him to the vet today. He’s eleven, which is already old for a German Shepherd. I’m afraid the worst might happen. I’ve asked my son and my mom to come along—they’re helping me get my pup to the vet since he’s having a really hard time walking. Luckily, the vet’s office is just across the street. I hope there’s still something that can be done.

Oh, Sofi, it’s always sad when animals aren’t feeling well. We end up suffering even more than if it were us. I wish you both a speedy recovery and my heart goes out to you.

I’m sticking with the little bear, even though I was almost ready to give up this morning. What’s coming up next with the hind legs is really challenging me. Phew!

And now I’m running out of yarn in one color, too. That means one of the hind legs will be a solid color—really annoying. Oh well, it’ll just make him something really special. :)

Once I finish that one hind leg, I’m definitely going to need a break from this. I still have until Thursday, after all. In the meantime, I need to ask the author, because there’s a point where I need her help.

Later, I’ll show you the individual pieces… and my new kids’ socks, too. They’re already in the mail and will definitely fit this time. I knitted them with slightly thicker unraveled yarn.

Have fun, everyone, and get well soon to those who aren’t feeling so great!

Love, Monika
