New Yarn Swap Package 2/2023

Hello, dear friends,

Spring makes you want something new! That goes for yarn, too. But not everyone can or wants to buy new yarn. That’s why swapping is the ideal way to get new yarn, be inspired by unfamiliar types of yarn, and at the same time pass on other yarn that is no longer quite so dear to you. Swapping is fun and brings joy.

We’re starting a new swap package!

And you can join in! We are looking for 10 to 15 participants. Anyone who would like to take part in the swap round, please sign up here in this thread. It doesn’t matter whether you are the first or the last to sign up here. This time, at the end, we will sort the order of participants by the first letters of their user names. That way, no one has an advantage or disadvantage because they may only be able to read this post later.

And there is one more new feature. This time we will generally send the swap package only via Hermes as an M package (6.95 or 6.75 euros with an online parcel label) . The reason is that, with the specified dimensions (longest + shortest side max. 80 cm), we can fill the package with up to 25 kg. With DHL, the package could be larger for this price, but it could only be filled with a maximum of 5 kg. That would not give us any advantage. I just tried it out in real life. So if we send it with Hermes, we have more yarn to swap for the same postage price. That’s why, this time, only participants who can ship with Hermes may join in.



The swap round works like this:

I am the initiator of this swap round and will pack a package with yarn. I will ask all participants beforehand by email for their names, addresses, preferences, and dislikes regarding yarn and use that to put together a participant list. Anyone who wants to can then take the preferences and dislikes into account when packing the package. Anyone who doesn’t provide anything here will simply let themselves be surprised.

The data will not be published here on CP. I will put the list I create into my freshly packed yarn package. I will send it at my own expense via Hermes to number 2 on the list.

Participant no. 2 on the list receives the package and picks out what she likes from the package. As a replacement for the yarns removed, she puts yarns of equal value into the package. The list goes back into the package. Participant no. 2 then sends the package at her own expense via Hermes to participant no. 3 on the list. The list goes back into the package, and so on and so on. At the end, the package ends up back with me because I am the last
address on the list. I will then destroy the list with the data.

Once the swap package has started, I will create a separate thread. Here we will always write where the package is at the moment. It would be nice if each participant posted a photo of the treasures they’ve snagged
. Then everyone can follow along with a little excitement.

Summary of the rules:

1. The M package is shipped via Hermes at the sender’s expense.
2. Each skein of yarn must have a ball band.
3. Several skeins of the same type only need one ball band.
4. The yarns removed are always replaced with yarns of equal quality.
5. Only yarn should be swapped.

Awesome—what a delightful Monday announcement, dear Ina!

I’d love to join again; I’ve been wanting to for a few days now. And now you’re making it happen. I’ve actually come across quite a bit of yarn that I’m not using because I don’t like the colors. What a great opportunity!

Sending the package via Hermes is definitely great. I think they’ve adjusted their prices now, too. But 25 kg is quite a lot! It would definitely be best not to max it out to the very last gram. Weighing things is always a bit of a hassle…

In any case, I’m really looking forward to the new swap package. The idea of going by the order of the names is a good one. Otherwise, we could also try drawing names this time.

Dear Monika,

I’m glad I can grant your wish.
We won’t manage to put 25 kg into one package; I don’t even have that much yarn. But it’s definitely more than 5 kg. I already have a suitable box with the right dimensions, and earlier I filled it with 7 kg as a test. If that’s too heavy for you, you’ll have to ask your husband. I’m sure he’ll be happy to fulfill your every wish :-)

Bisher habe ich die Reise der Pakete immer verfolgt und die schöne Wolle und / oder die fertigen Arbeiten daraus bewundert. Dieses mal wäre ich auch gerne dabei.

Wow, ich bin begeistert, wie viele von uns diesmal dabei sind! Da wird die Tauschgruppe ja sehr schnell voll. Fantastisch! Denn ich freu mich schon riesig drauf auf das Überraschungspaket - es ist immer wie Weihnachten und Geburtstag auf einmal.

so einen lieben Mann hab ich auch. Michi kann ja nicht mehr so gut oder weiter als 200m laufen, aber er fährt leidenschaftlich gern Auto, auch ziellos, das braucht er.  Früher hiess es dann immer "kannst Du das bitte mitnehmen?" (Ich verkaufe ja auch Nadeln, Socken etc. über E..y)

Hey 😊 I’m also interested in this event, but I have a question:
Based on past experience, how long does the package usually take to travel—from the start until it’s back with Schnuckelina?
Can you still sign up even if you’ll be on vacation at a certain time?

Lethyna, erfahrungsgemäß dauert es schon 3-5 Tage, bis das Paket beim nächsten Emfpänger angekommen ist. Ich bin in der Zeit auch ein paar Tage unterwegs. Da lässt sich bestimmt was machen. Ina wird dazu bestimmt auch schreiben. Bisher war es dann so, dass sich evtl. die Reihenfolge geändert hat.

Bei mir ist es so, dass ich vom 10 bis 15. Mai unterwegs bin. Ich werde es mal beobachten, wie das Paket läuft. Ich glaube aber, dass ich dann noch gar nicht dran sein werde.

I’m totally flexible—you can move me to any spot as needed.

I knew there would definitely be a few latecomers who want to seize their chance at some new yarn. Of course you can still join. The package hasn’t started yet.

Once the package is underway, there will be a new thread in the forum. That’s where we’ll post updates on where the package is at any given time. And if the time gets closer and you think you’ll be on vacation then, you can also swap places with someone else. We’ll figure that out as we go. Everyone always checks in here. And you could also message the person ahead of you on the list and ask them to skip you or move you to a different spot. The person sending the package will then need to mark that on the list. It’s all doable.

I also received a private message with a registration. I’ve now added the two new participants. So here’s how the list looks now:
