Yarn swap package No. 1/2023 is on its way, Part 2. (No advertising)

Hello dear everyone,

As of today, the swap package is on its way. Its first stop will be with ines66. After that, Ines will send it to the next participant. The participant list with the addresses is in the package.

You can send the 5 kg package either with DHL for 6.99 or with Hermes for 5.95 euros. The 5.95 euros with Hermes (M package) applies to the current box, whose longest and shortest sides combined may measure up to 80 cm.

Now I wish us all lots of fun swapping yarn. I hope there is something for everyone. Please feel free to share your swap activities with us here in this thread. That way everyone can get a little
excited along with you or even discover a new yarn or two via the screen.

I just saw that the postal service is on strike. This means that if we send our swap packages via DHL, they might arrive much later at the next recipient’s address.

So it might be better to ship with Hermes. I’ve had very good experiences with them lately, especially when it comes to delivery times.

Just a heads-up for you all.

I’m already curious to see when the package will arrive at Ines’s place and what she’ll pick out.

I just wanted to quickly let you know that the package arrived today, BUT... I won’t be able to open it until Sunday 😔 I’m torturing myself a bit with that, but I’m having guests over tonight, and tomorrow I’m on grandchild duty, and I’d really like to take my time and let the yarn sink in. So Sunday will be all about the yarn, and on Monday the package will go on to Monika.

Because of the strike at DHL, I’m also shipping with Hermes.

Hi, I was just wondering when the next swap might start—I don’t think it’s possible to join this one anymore, is it?

Shame on me, I totally missed it.
But I’ll be following along to see who takes what out and puts what in. SORRY

So, my dears, how right some of you were when you said, “I couldn’t wait that loooong,” hehe—I actually found myself glancing at the package over and over again last night, but because of a visitor, I just couldn’t get around to opening it.
So before my grandson arrived, I’d already been up for a while and opened the package. What can I say? I really spent a long time deciding which yarn to choose from the many varieties Ina had packed.
I’ve made my decision now—my grandson is asleep—and while I was at it, I jotted down two more yarns that weren’t my color; maybe I’ll find them in stores, haha…....
The package is now restocked and will be sent via Hermes on Monday morning. Monika, I think you can start looking forward to it—there are some absolutely gorgeous yarns in the package.

I’m not quite sure yet exactly what I’ll make with them, but the gray and white merino wool will become a hat and scarf for Wim. I’ll show those in due time in our thread about the projects from the swap packages.

That looks lovely, Ines—it would make my fingers itch to get started right away. But I still have things to do: our granddaughter, Käthe, turns 2 on March 2, and our grandson, Momme, is just under 4 months old. Then I’ll get back to making something for myself and for the upcoming craft fairs—it’s never boring!

I’m already super excited about the package—I’ve actually found a pattern for a short-sleeve sweater made from different colors in a patchwork style. I’ll take a look in the package first to see if there’s anything suitable for that. Ombré yarn would be perfect for that. I’m already itching to get started on it. Now I’m sooo excited and looking forward to it like it’s Christmas.

Of course, I’ll show off my treasures here too, and the finished project later on.

Great, Ines, you’ve picked out some lovely new treasures. I know the merino yarns feel really soft to the touch. You’re lucky that the colors weren’t “colorful” enough for me. They’ll make great winter clothes for Wim. His parents will like them too, precisely because the colors aren’t so bright. The Alize Diva yarns are always great for all kinds of crochet projects. Such lovely smooth yarn with a long yardage. You hardly ever find that with German yarns.

I hope you enjoy your new treasures... and now Monika can look forward to it. I hope your wishes come true.

@Ramona - unfortunately, you’ve missed the boat for this time. The parcel is already on its way. There won’t be another swap parcel until next quarter. If you regularly read along here in the forum, you’re sure to notice it too.

The yellow, mint, and pink as well as the white would have been my colors too, the ones I would have picked.

Earlier I finished crocheting a dinosaur from last year’s swap yarn and hid it right away so I can take a photo this time.  The grandkids are always quicker to pack things up than you can blink ..laugh..
But it’s lovely when the little ones are so happy about it.

Oh Monika, the purple yarn ended up with you—it was a joy to work with. I knitted myself a soul warmer with it, and that one ended up with my friend, who wears the same size as me. I still have some of that yarn in shades of green, so I made another one for myself 😊 But the other yarns are all very beautiful too—I’m excited to see what you’ll create with them.

Yes, Sabine, I just figured you could use the weekend to enjoy it. We don’t have any snow here today, but that’s supposed to change starting tomorrow. When it snows, we don’t necessarily drive our vintage car—only if we absolutely have to. So I made a very quick decision today.

For my tunic project, I’ll have to put together some other yarn, because I need it to be as thin as possible.

Monika, I used just under 500g for size 44/46, though I knitted it quite loosely. 

Thanks, Ines—now I have an idea. This one would be for a very slender woman.

Yes, I fell in love with the gradient yarn right away. It also feels totally cozy and soft. I already have several ideas for what to make with it, but I can’t decide yet. It might take a while to work on this project. Luckily, it keeps well. :)

I couldn’t resist the gradient yarns either—I’m totally obsessed with Japanese gloves right now, and this kind of yarn looks amazing for them! It’s just a shame I can’t join the swap, but I’m always thrilled to see your treasures!

Hi everyone, the package arrived at my place 2.5 hours ago. I had really stopped expecting it, but yes... Hermes drivers do deliver all day on Saturdays too. Good for me :)
I’ve already made an initial selection. The different yarns are so varied, very interesting.

Hello everyone,

here’s my selection. It was so hard and yet so lovely... so many different yarns, some of which I didn’t even know before... so I got to touch them, choose, and think about what they could become. Now the decision has been made.

The colorful cotton yarn will become a snail’s body, and we’ll see ;) , I’ll knit the green yarn into a shawl, and as for the brown wool, I’ll let myself be surprised. My sister likes those kinds of colors... so it could also become a shawl.
The filet yarn will be crocheted into flowers and owls. It’s a great addition to my yarn stash.
I’ll show it to you once it’s been worked up.

The package has been tied up again and is going to the parcel shop tomorrow.

The scarf looks great, I’m going to curl up on the sofa now too and knit.
I pretty much neglected that last week. I dragged my husband to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon because he’d had stomach pains for days, and he had surgery that same night—appendix...
I picked him up again the day before yesterday, but he’s still pretty weak and isn’t allowed to lift or carry anything, bend over, etc.

The decision has been made. I’m going to use the mohair yarn to make a cozy sweater, combined with some of my own yarn. I haven’t knitted socks in ten years, but now I have a reason to start again 😁, and I already have a summer project in mind for the bobble yarn.

I’ve always thought the color was soooo beautiful, but unfortunately it’s too fluffy for me. I can’t tolerate mohair, so I let it find a new owner.

I hope you enjoy your new treasures. By the way, you can knit more than just socks with gray sock yarn. Sock yarn is so fine that you can also make other things with it.
