Sylvi just gave me the tracking number, which means she sent the package to Monika today—and so had the whole weekend to sort through the new and old treasures. We’re excited. She plans to post here later.

Best regards—Ina

Hi everyone :)

As Ina wrote, I had the whole weekend to browse and, of course, I found something :)

I’m going to crochet something with it in a mosaic pattern—probably a blanket :)
Thanks for the great package, and I hope the rest of you busy little elves find something too :)

Love, Sylvi

I’m so glad, dear Sylvi, that this yarn caught your eye. And since there’s a bit more of one type, it’ll be enough for a larger project… maybe even a mosaic blanket. We’d love to see it in a photo later on. Now I hope you have fun crocheting and enjoy your evening.

For everyone else, it’s time to keep waiting. Only Monika will soon be spared the wait.

Warm regards, Ina

Dear yarn-swap enthusiasts,

Today the huge yarn package finally arrived at my place. Unfortunately, it was torn along the side edges. As far as I can tell, though, the contents are complete.

What a joy!
It was like Christmas and a birthday all in one. First I unpacked the whole package and looked through everything, thinking about what I could make with it. And this is what ended up staying with me (I put the little blue ball in front back in, because the yarn is too thin for me).

Yes, it’s almost 1000 grams. Luckily I have enough stash and was even able to put a little more in. What I think is really great this time is that the contents only weigh about 4.5 kg. That leaves a buffer, and no one has to pay for more than 5 kg. Super helpful. Until now, I didn’t even know we had a digital luggage scale. Luckily my husband remembered. That makes it possible to prepare a package like this accordingly so there are no surprises at the post office.

I’m going to knit some of the felting wool into dreys or swings for squirrels. But also something else: little felted baskets for our motorhome. My husband came up with the idea; he once saw it online in another RV. From the little purple ball of yarn I’ll either knit hats for the two girls or a sweater for Linja. It’s baby merino and therefore nice and soft. Yarn for the doll clothes is included too—the little colorful balls on the right. I’m already looking forward to working up the yarn.

Thank you, dear Ina, for getting this lovely package on its way.

Tomorrow it will be on its way to you, Ines. You can already look forward to it. It will probably be with you early next week.

I find it interesting that the package is traveling all across Germany. From the northeast to the west, then to the southeast (where we are) and then back to the northeast ... anyway, up and down... exciting.

Dear Monika, you’ve “found” some really great treasures that get to come live with you...
Have fun knitting with them. 💖
...yarn that’s too thin??? That wouldn’t happen to me 🙈 I love very fine yarns, preferably 400m or more per 100g.....

That’s such a diverse selection—great!
I don’t really care about the yarn’s weight—I just have a few ideas tucked away in the back of my mind. A skein just has to catch my eye and call out, “I want to go home with you,” and just like that, I’ll grab it. :-)))

Umm..... Veronika..... I constantly feel like the skeins are smiling at me and want to stay with me 😂😂😂
But I often feel the same way—I see some yarn, and boom, it’s already moved in with me 😇 though with some skeins, I’m not even sure why anymore.

Anyway, I’m really, really looking forward to the package.

So I’m lucky ... or unlucky .... there’s nowhere here for yarn to tempt me; the last yarn shop nearby closed down years ago, so if I want something to tempt me, I have to order online.
That’s why this parcel is great, a real live event again!

Good evening, everyone!

I didn’t check in here for just one day, and already some wonderful wool treasures have found their way to you, waiting to be worked into something.
Wow, such great yarns. I would have loved those, too.
I’m already excited to see what arrives for me.

Have fun working with them!

Dear Steffi, well, you can look forward to the package, because there are even more fine yarns inside. Let it be a surprise.

Veronika, I also keep coming across yarn that absolutely wants to come to me, usually in my swap group. By now I know that quite a few of them then want to move on here in the big swap package. In any case, you can look forward to the live show (great way to put it). For me, it was a real treat.

Andrea, you have something to look forward to, too—there’s definitely something in there for you. And each person adds something new, after all.

Monika, you’ve picked out such beautiful yarn—the felting yarn immediately reminded me of your Kobel.
The purple yarn is also very beautiful.
I’m now excited to see what I get to choose.
Unfortunately, my two local yarn shops are gone here too, and I tend to order online, so I’m all the more excited to maybe discover some new types of yarn.
Wishing you all a relaxing Friday the 13th.

Dear Monika,

Congratulations on your new yarn treasures! You’ve picked out some beautiful items. And for many of them, you already have an idea of what to make with them. That’s incredibly inspiring, and it always makes you look forward to the next project. We’re curious to see if we’ll recognize this or that in your projects later on.

I wish all readers a wonderful weekend—enjoy the spring as well as your crafts. I’ll be doing the same.

Hi Monika, you picked out some really great yarn. Yes, the felting yarn has wonderful colors and has definitely ended up in exactly the right place with you.
I know Timona well and can only say that it’s wonderful to work with.
Now enjoy your new treasures.

@ everyone
Have a lovely weekend, with great ideas and a bit of time for crafting.

Yes, Ines, the luggage scale is really great—it gives you the exact weight. This time, I weighed everything I kept. Then I weighed the yarn I was passing on and put it in. It actually ended up being a little more. That’s why a weight buffer like this is so useful. For me, the yarn package is like a traveling yarn shop. :-)

Ina, I also wish you and everyone here a wonderful weekend with plenty of time for what you love. It’s raining today, so I can work on the computer again. When the weather’s nice, I prefer to be outside.
Of course, I’ll show you my projects—maybe even here, if I can still remember whether the yarn is from this package. With three packages, I’ve lost track. ;-)

Sabine, which yarn is the Timona? The little purple skeins, maybe? I can’t tell from the photo. Now I’ve already distributed everything among my stash… and would have to search for it first.

You’ve picked out some beautiful treasures, Monika. I’m sure they’ll turn into some adorable little things again.

I like the idea of the weight buffer.

A live wool package show… what a great idea. I can practically see the wool dancing right in front of me… grin.

Where I live, wool is only available at discount stores. The selection is very limited as a result. Luckily, I found “Wollhimmel” in the neighboring town. That’s where I get my cotton at a very reasonable price. The nearest specialty stores are in Stade.

I’m curious to see what else you’ll find. Keep having fun.

Hello dear swap friends,

I just wanted to quickly let you know that the package has arrived, hooray! I’ve already had a quick look through it and found a few favorites. Since I have a grandma afternoon today, I’ll decide tomorrow which yarn will be moving in with me and which will be leaving me. Then of course there will be a photo too.

Wishing you all a lovely rest of the day

Hi,
I don’t want to keep you in suspense any longer, so here’s the yarn I swapped for.
Yes, Monika, the mail really is quite fast here—I ordered some yarn online on Saturday, and it arrived today. At our local post office, packages are picked up by 4:00 p.m., and then they’re supposed to reach the recipient within 24 hours—though, well, that certainly doesn’t always work everywhere.
I don’t have any firm plans yet, but I do have some ideas, and before I made up my mind, I just had to check online to see where I could reorder if things get tight, haha…
I’ll show you my “creations” when the time comes.
Now it’s Veronika’s turn to look forward to it, because the package should arrive at your place by Wednesday at the latest.

Warm regards to all of you, Ines

Oh, how lovely, Ines—what wonderful treasures you’ve picked out for yourself. There are even two skeins from me in there—the purple and orange ones in the front right. I simply had too many of those, since I mainly reserve them for doll clothes or double-faced projects.

I’ve already been thinking about whether we should start a separate thread for our projects made with the swap yarn. Because, to be honest, later on I won’t remember which package each skein came from. That way, we’d have a sort of showcase for our projects made from the “Freu” packages.

What do you think?

Josefa could then pin this thread to the top—just like they do in the Handicraft Group and the Bakery. Then no one would have to search for it for a long time.

I think this is helpful, since this is already the third swap package in circulation (and more are likely to be started), and this way the creations that have come out of them are all gathered in one thread. Searching for the individual threads is quite a hassle, since they’re spread out over a longer period of time.

Veronika and Ines thought this was a good idea—Ruth has already posted there, too—so I’ve opened this thread.

Dear Ina,
The yarn from Tausendschön—I’ve already spotted it online. Once I know exactly what I want to make, I’ll buy some more.
And there are actually so many different types of Alize yarn—you can always find something that goes well with it. I have a good stash of it myself, some of which ended up in the package.

I’m curious to see what everyone creates with the swap yarn.

Well, everyone, I had a wonderful day! I spread all the yarn out on the table and then strolled along it, sipping a cup of tea now and then, then strolling some more—it was lovely!
And after giving it some serious thought, I found just the right items, of course.
The package is securely sealed and will be on its way tomorrow, as soon as I catch a break from the storm—right now, we’re getting completely soaked.

I felt the same way—I really took my time looking at it, feeling it, and thinking about it.

Dear Veronika, as we read your words, we all just pictured you sneaking around the spread-out yarn, sipping from your teacup every now and then. And again and again, choosing a skein of yarn, touching it, holding it to the delicate skin of your neck, and putting it back. That takes time—and is meant to be savored. No yarn shop is ever that relaxed!

And every skein of yarn was hoping it would be the one chosen. Your favorites made the cut. You’ve made a very nice selection. I hope you enjoy them very much.

Warm regards, Ina

Veronika, what a beautiful selection you’ve put together. I can’t wait to see what you’ll conjure up with it. Yes, I really enjoyed it too when I saw all the contents laid out on the table. Choosing wasn’t that easy—I often set things aside and swapped them out. It’s really quite different from being in a yarn shop.

Yes, I’m still here, reading along quietly 😇😉
You’ve already adopted some beautiful yarns. I’m excited to see what you make with them.
I’m currently working on yarn from the last swap package, a lace-weight yarn knitted double-stranded.... I’ll post a photo in the other thread....

For me, it replaced the yarn shop and who knows what else—I don’t have any yarn shops nearby anymore, and the package was a very welcome alternative.
I’m planning some fall decor in orange—pumpkins are in the air—and I discovered a great pattern here for a beautiful pillow.
I’m going to make a lightweight scarf out of the gradient bobble yarn. Will 150 g be enough? The yarn is pretty thin.
Choosing was really hard—there are still some absolutely fantastic things in the package. And I have a “technical” question right off the bat:
If, for example, there’s 500 g of a certain yarn in the package, do you always use it all, or sometimes just one ball? Same goes for restocking—is it better to have a lot of one type, or lots of individual balls? Or does it not matter?

Veronika, you can also take individual skeins out of the package or add them to it. It’s always a lovely selection that goes on its journey. From what I’ve observed, sometimes individual skeins of a particular type of yarn get “adopted.”

Thank you, Veronika, for your kind words.

I’ve already had a little browse through it. The choice really isn’t easy.

In any case, the package will be on its way to Kerstin on Monday. Have fun with it!

Thank you. This pink is 100% polyacrylic and very thin.

I’d like to crochet a little teddy bear out of this pink.
As for this green and yellow, I’m imagining a striped doll sweater—we’ll see.

I also still have some swap yarn left over from last time.

Andrea, you’ve picked out some beautiful yarn too—the pink one is from me. It’s easy to work with; I have it in other colors as well. It was included in an auction package from e..y somewhere—it’s so wonderfully soft, so I’m really looking forward to seeing the teddy bear.

Oh Andrea, such beautiful colors. I’m already looking forward to seeing what you’ll conjure up with them. I’m especially curious about the pink teddy bear. And the green and yellow yarn will surely look great in stripes—perfect for summer.

I’ve already knitted and felted two felt baskets for the RV using the swap yarn. The square basket, though, needs to go through the machine one more time.

I’ll post the picture in the photo thread for our yarn swap.

Good morning!

Yes, I was also delighted by these wonderfully vibrant colors. They practically smile at you.
Exactly, Monika—these are such spring-summer colors.

The swap package was sent off today.
Kerstin, you have something to look forward to. I hope you have lots of fun with it.

Wishing you all a pleasant week

Great, Andrea—I’m so happy to see your new additions. That’s sure to spark your creativity all over again. It won’t be long before we get to see a picture of you sitting on your balcony, knitting with that very same yarn.

Could you please tell me the name and yardage of that pink yarn? I’m always on the lookout for fine yarns, too. Thank you so much.

Best wishes, and have a wonderful day, everyone.

Exactly, Ina, that’s what I’ll do. :-)

The “MAPINA” knitting yarn is 50 g / yardage 195 m, 100% acrylic
10 x 10 is 30 stitches x 43 rows (according to the Tedi label)

It feels really soft. I’m always sensitive to scratchy wool, but this one is great.
I still have to try out whether it knits up well. I’m usually more of a crocheter.

Thank you so much, Andrea, for the info. Have a nice evening. I know where there’s a Tedi store. I’ll pop in there soon and keep an eye out for it. You always have to touch it, after all :-)

Best regards, Ina

Hello everyone,
I’m so glad, dear Steffi, that I’m not the only one feeling this way... I’ve been checking for days to see if there are any pictures or updates about the selected yarn ;0) so I wasn’t the only curious one.
Have a lovely evening, everyone, and enjoy your crafting

Warm regards
Sabine

Although I’m not part of the swap group, I’m closely following your selections. Some of that yarn would have tempted me—I’m already familiar with some of it and have worked with it.

I really enjoy reading along here.

Hey everyone! Luckily, I’m not the only one who’s curious—I’m waiting just like you for new posts to see who’ll discover what in the package… there are so many beautiful yarns included.
I already started knitting with one of the swap yarns yesterday; I’ll post the result in the other thread, but it’ll take a little while yet.

Sorry for the delay—I’ve been pretty stressed out, unfortunately...
These treasures are staying with me 🙂
Tomorrow, the package is going to Woll-zauberei-steffi

Your selection of yarn is very nice, dear Gaby. Small but lovely, I’d say.

Now the package will soon be with Steffi, then with NadelBine—and just like that, it’s back where it started. So it’s slowly starting to get exciting for me, too.

I wish you all a wonderful day. If you have time, get those needles clicking!

Warm regards, Ina

I’m glad to hear that, Gaby. By the way, the Alize yarn is from me.
Have fun working with it. You’ve got a lovely little selection there.

Warm regards to everyone

I’m really looking forward to the package 📦....
Gabi, the “Lambada” is beautiful—it has such a lovely sheen. What yardage does it have?

The Lambada is from me, Steffi. There should be something for you in the parcel as well. I couldn't do anything with it. I think it was 125 m.

Beautiful 😍,
it would look very good in these crocheted mosaic squares. The ones Andrea also loves to crochet so much. That would be something small to take along in the RV and on “vacation”....

Oh, that’s nice, Steffi—do you have a camper van too?
Something small like that works really well there.

RV… more like a camper, so “everything” is there for the electrical system. You can cook, there’s an “emergency toilet,” and everything else we need—no gas hookup or that water tank. We customized it ourselves. Since we have a big dog, we need the right amount of space, and a store-bought one just doesn’t have that.....
I’m really excited to see what nice things are in the package 📦

Mosaic squares sound great. Yeah, I always followed Andrea whenever she showed new colors. I really enjoy crocheting, but I don’t always dare to tackle English patterns. You never know if the English pattern for the mosaic will be easy to follow.
Well, Steffi, I’ll be checking to see how your project turns out.

I’m already looking forward to it... soon it’ll be my turn to pick something out :0)

I wish EVERYONE a wonderful Pentecost weekend, and good luck with all your projects and a restful time

Hey there, Nadel-Bine.....
I also have the pattern that Andrea crocheted, and it was my first mosaic—I found it pretty easy to follow, just like many English patterns that are very “matter-of-fact,” meaning short and to the point.... Both in written form and as a crochet chart....

Thanks, Steffi, exactly. It’s really easy.
Once you get the hang of it, you can work any charted grid pattern.

Bine, it’s no big deal. I only have basic English skills, and I managed just fine with the patterns.
You can also find a list of English crochet abbreviations online.
If you’re having trouble, just ask Steffi or me. We’re happy to help.
Once you start, you won’t want to stop making these mosaics. It’s best to crochet in rounds. So, work each round separately with one color and single crochet stitches. Work everything into the back loop (the pattern is created by working the double crochets into the front loop).

Crocheting in rows makes sense if you want fringe on the sides, such as for a table runner or a small coaster.

Thank you, Steffi and Andrea,
I think I’ll go ahead and give it a try after all. A large blanket made using the mosaic technique will definitely look great, and because it’s made from individual pieces, you can work on it casually on the side, just like with granny squares.

Best regards,
Sabine

Here you go, Sabine. You can start by crocheting small mosaics and then crocheting or sewing them together to make a doily. That way, you’ll see if it’s your thing or not.

It’s really a lot of fun. Once you get started, you won’t want to stop.
You can also make a little bag out of the many mosaic squares—just sew them together, add a handle, and you’re done.

It’s arrived...... 😇
How nice that it’s “lunch break” right now—that way I can browse through everything in peace.
I just took a quick look at the very first photo, the one Ina posted when the package set off on its journey.... It really is still the original box! I’m “treating” you to a new one, though—the current one wouldn’t survive the next “leg of the journey” 🙈🤷
I’ll post a photo later.....

Oh Steffi, we’d all love to be a fly on the wall right now. I’m sure there’s a certain tension in the air, and no one is allowed to disturb you now. See you later.

Warm regards, Ina

Yes, the box had already taken a beating—I’d added plenty of tape to it. Who knows how it’ll get tossed around and shoved! Good thing wool can’t get seasick....

Well, I could have used a really sturdy piece of cardboard at the start—but that would have weighed at least 1 kg. So the thicker cardboard would have meant at least 500 g less wool to choose from. So, I’d rather use a little tape here and there along the way than give up 500 g of wool ;-)

Best regards, Ina

.....now even tape won’t help anymore.... 😂😂😂😂
I think the package will be on its way again tomorrow, or Thursday at the latest....
Sabine can already start looking forward to it 😇

My “haul” — now I’ll be knitting gloves and fingerless gloves on vacation.

You’ve picked out some really beautiful yarn, Steffi—you’ll be able to make quite a few pairs of gloves and fingerless gloves with it. I never get anything done on vacation—at least not on vacations that aren’t at home—even though my fingers are itching to get crafting.
Have lots of fun with the new yarn.
I’m currently working on a project with some swap yarn—luckily I was able to reorder some, since the one skein won’t quite be enough.

A wonderful good evening to everyone here,

Hey Steffi, glad you found what you were looking for after all. Have fun working with it. I also held the dark gray yarn (in the middle)—it was sooooo soft, but unfortunately too dark for my projects. I’m really curious to see what your “fingerless” gloves will look like.

Ha, Ines, I feel exactly the same way as you do. Just a few more days, then we’re going on vacation. Since we don’t have a car anymore, we’re traveling by bus and train, so I can’t take much yarn with me in my suitcase. Two or three skeins are okay. What can you do?

Warm regards

Steffi, you’ve chosen some really beautiful yarn. You can definitely do something great with it. It already looks very soft in the photo. I’m curious to see what you’ll show us eventually.

It’s really exciting here, and I’m happy every time too. It’s also exciting to see what ends up with Ina in the end and whether everything from her has found a new yarn lover.

@Steffi, it’s great that you found such lovely yarn, and now I’m soooo curious what lovely things you left for me : ) I knitted gloves last summer too. That’s a good idea. They made great Christmas gifts

I find it really interesting how everyone gets excited about the swap yarn. Everyone is happy for each other and often already has in mind what they themselves would make from it.

Have a lovely evening, everyone!
Sabine
