Yarn Swap Package No. 4/2022 is on its way, Part 2.

************************************************************

Hello everyone,

The swap package has been on its way since today. Its first stop will be Maxtiger. After that, it will be sent on to the other participants. The participant list with the addresses is included in the package.

This time I’ve come up with an extra surprise for you. There are 10 small envelopes in the package. Sealed and stamped, of course. Each participant may take one envelope and keep it safe until the end of the swap round.

When the package has made its way back to me, you can all open your envelopes. 9 envelopes contain a blank and 1 envelope contains a prize. I’ll tell you later what the prize will be.

Now I wish all of us lots of fun swapping yarn. I hope there’s something for everyone. Please feel free to share your swap activities with us here in this thread. That way everyone can join in the excitement a little or even discover a new yarn or two for themselves on screen.

Warm regards from Ina

Oh wow, dear Ina, what a wonderful idea! Thank you so much! I’m also really looking forward to the swap package—it’s always kind of like a surprise box—just like I used to love those mystery bags as a kid. And now there’s even a raffle surprise on top of that.  Exciting!

It won’t be too long before it arrives at my place. I should be third on the list.

I wish you all a wonderful day and lots of joy with whatever you have planned.

Warm regards from Monika

EVERYONE loves surprises, whether big or small, young or old. It just makes life a little more exciting. Sometimes you just have to get lucky—first, to make it onto the participant list, and second, you might even win something.

@Monika
Yes, you’re No. 3 on the list.

Now let’s wait for Maxtiger’s post—she’s joining us for the first time.

I wish you all a lovely summer afternoon.

Warm regards, Ina

Hey there, the package is here. 😀
I had no idea how much you could pack into 5 kg.😅
So, first I’m going to look through everything, then I’ll post pictures of what I’ve picked out.

So, I’m really taken with the green and blue yarns. Now, a question about the replacement. What should I look for to make sure I put in yarn of equal value? Sorry for the question—this is my first time participating, and of course I want to do it right.

Hi Ines, you can’t really go wrong. Just weigh the yarn you’ve taken out and add the same amount from your stash. In the end, the package shouldn’t weigh more than 5 kg.

Take your time with your selection. Some yarns don’t speak to us until we take a second look :-)) The post office doesn’t open until Monday anyway.

Best regards, Ina

That went really fast this time, Ina. By the time I read about the new package, the list was already full.

You had a great idea and are doing a fantastic job—as you can see from the turnout! A huge thank you to you, dear Ina!

Maybe I’ll be able to join in again next time. Until then, I’m happy for all of you and can’t wait to see your reports and photos.

Dear Ines,
we can see you like green and blue. You could have photographed the yarns with their labels and laid out flat. Piled up like that, we can’t really satisfy our curiosity. Maybe you’d like to post another photo for us where we can see all the skeins?

Otherwise, congratulations on your haul. You’ve picked out some lovely yarns.

Best wishes, Ina

For some reason, I’m not quite getting on with writing here, even though I’m really not someone who’s unfamiliar with technology.
So here’s another picture with the individual labels, but only one ball of each yarn where I have several.
I’ll make something for my son with the blue yarn. We’ll see whether it’ll be a jacket or a sweater.
I’ll make something for myself with the green yarn—probably a poncho. Winter is coming, and the boss will want to cut costs at the office.
Best regards, Ines

Dear Ines,

It’s nice that you’re telling us your plans for using the yarn.

@all participants in the swap package

It would be really lovely if you could upload a photo here of all the yarn you took out. So not just 1 skein of each type, but everything. Just place your new treasures next to each other on the floor and take a photo from above. Then the rest of us can see everything and imagine what we would have made with this yarn.

The technical problems will surely be fixed soon, and then everything will definitely go smoothly for all future participants.

Best wishes, Ina

Okay, I’ve received a response from technical support. The problem is that images should preferably be uploaded directly as images. Inserting images as links isn’t a good idea. The link provided as the image source apparently didn’t work.
Please upload the image in question again as a file, provided it’s your own image and you hold all rights to it.

It was especially difficult this time—I could have used at least three-quarters of the contents, but I don’t have that much yarn to swap, so I had to go back and forth several times while putting together the package and making my selections.
But now I’ve made up my mind—here’s what I’ve chosen:

Wow..... I would’ve loved to get the “online” one, too.....
It looks very “thin.” What’s the yardage, and what’s the composition? The color is absolutely beautiful. I could totally see it as a contrast color in a sweater 😍
I’m already soooo excited to see what’s next in the photos 😊

This is pure cotton, 240 m per 100 g, so needle size 2.5–3.5.
All shades of blue, including turquoise and mint, are totally my thing, and there was quite a lot of this, so I’ll actually dare to try making a sweater with it.
The fiery gradient cake will become a scarf for when I wear black again; I don’t always walk around in bright colors, it all depends on my mood.

The package had already taken a beating, but I stabilized it with several meters of packing tape, so it should hold for now. Tomorrow it goes back on its journey.

Great selection, dear Veronika. A surprise package like this always provides fresh inspiration. In a yarn shop, you can’t just bring in your old yarns and say, “I’d like some different ones in exchange, please.” Here with us, you can!

Maybe that would be a business idea for yarn shops, which are having a tough time these days. A small, separate section for yarn swaps. It would be a big hit. If I had a yarn shop, I’d definitely do that. After all, there are book swap shops, too. ...

Enough chit-chat. Now Andrea has something to look forward to—and so do we.

Warm regards, Ina

Yes, yes, Andrea is making it just as exciting as her predecessors. But she has the whole weekend to make her selection. First she'll go do something - and later then her personal time-out, when she doesn’t want to be disturbed under any circumstances. Knowing her, she’ll make herself a cappuccino and get cozy. Too bad we can’t all beam ourselves over to you, dear Andrea. I’d bring some cake too :-)

Warm regards to everyone - Ina

Your selection is also very nice, dear Andrea. I can easily imagine the black serving as a contrasting color to your colorful mosaic pieces. It really makes the colors pop even more.

I wish you and everyone else a cozy Saturday evening. It’s raining heavily here—all the trees and plants are delighted. I’m about to curl up on the couch with a craft project.

Exactly, Ina. You were right. I need the black as a contrast to the pink for my mosaics; it works better that way. Otherwise, I tend to prefer lighter colors.
The white fluffy yarn goes with the other fluffy yarns from the last package. But I’m going to knit with it (crocheting doesn’t work so well with it).

Thanks, I wish the same for you and everyone else, too. We had a bit of drizzle in between, but otherwise the atmosphere was great. I enjoy these little breaks from work. Oh yes, and a fish sandwich is a must at the fishermen’s festival.

So, everyone, enjoy your crafting.

Monika is next and can look forward to it. I think I’ll be able to send the package on its way to you on Monday.

Best regards

It’s precisely because you always discover yarns from others that you would have loved to have yourself that these new treasures are showcased here. If you fall head over heels in love with a yarn, you could always buy it for yourself. And when you then see in the thread “Swap Package—Here’s What I Made With It” just how beautiful that dream yarn looks worked up, you’ll fall even more in love with it. But usually, that one love is followed by others… :-) Let’s see what’s waiting in the swap package for you to discover.

I wish everyone a wonderful Sunday. We’re enjoying some homemade plum cake with crumble topping right now… it tastes like summer in August.

Dear Monika,

I think it’s great that you’re taking your time. I know from my own experience that I change my mind a thousand times. Everything needs to be thought through calmly, sorted, reviewed, discarded, and then brought back out again. So enjoy a relaxing afternoon in your own private yarn shop. Here, there are no closing times and no nosy customers peering over your shoulder.

Warm regards, Ina

Oh, Ina, that’s so nicely put. :)
For now, I’m enjoying the garden and finishing up some projects I’ve started. Tonight I’ll take a look at everything and make a preliminary selection. Tomorrow I’ll go through the selection again and think about what I could make with it.

Yeah, and then I’ll have to pick out a selection from my stash to send on.

On Friday, I’ll drop the package off at the post office first thing in the morning. That’s when we’ll be driving to the market, so we can take it with us. With diesel prices what they are, every car trip has to be carefully considered these days. If everything goes as quickly as it usually does, the package will reach the recipient as early as Saturday.

So, everyone, this is what the package looked like at noon today after it arrived. It’s already taken quite a beating, but I think if I tape it up properly again, it’ll make it through the next round. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lightweight cardboard box in this size.

This time, I’m going to do things a little differently than before. I’ll let you in on the whole process of how I make my decisions—one skein at a time. Since I’ve made my selections very quickly in the past, I realized afterward that I really should have taken more time. Sometimes a yarn feels right at first glance, but then I’m stuck for ideas on what to do with it.

I’ve made an initial selection. This yarn is staying with me—that much is certain.

There’s a story behind this, too. I kept this exact yarn—in a different color—in one of the first swap packages. I originally planned to send it back out this time, since I didn’t know what to do with such a small amount. And now I see the same yarn—in a matching color mix—in this package. It’s exactly the addition I needed. I’ll be knitting both of them together into a soul warmer, which I’m already looking forward to.

Here’s a photo of the two large skeins; I already had one of them.

I’ll also keep the following leftover skein without a label, since I have other skeins that match it in color. They look exactly the same, and I can only assume they’re the same quality. The skein was included in a bag with the Drops yarn, but it feels completely different.

So, that’s today’s selection. I’ll continue tomorrow and share more with you then.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to Andrea for the lovely lucky gnome. I was really happy to receive it. I’ll post a photo tomorrow.

Dear Monika,

I think it’s really great that one thick, colorful yarn waited especially for the other thick, colorful yarn. Visually, it’s already a firework of colors. Let’s see what it looks like once you’ve worked it up into a shawl.

Warm regards, Ina

So, everyone, I’ve made my decision today. I put some of yesterday’s yarns back and took others out. That’s how it’ll stay for now. Tomorrow I’ll have to make the final decision on which of my yarns gets to go on a journey.

Here are the individual skeins that are staying with me and what I plan to make with them.

First up is this skein of Drops Nepal. The color matches the skeins I already have. I’ll work it into a project at some point.

Then there’s this delicately variegated baby yarn. I’ll use it to knit for my dolls.

This gorgeous baby yarn—I’ll knit something pretty for my Paula (60 cm) with it. It’s really perfect for baby clothes.

I really did beat around the bush for a long time with this yarn (and the next one, too). And today I just couldn’t resist any longer. It’s going to become a cute baby onesie.

And now the last skein. Another lovely, colorful yarn. I’m going to knit a Christmas gift for my friend with it. She loves these colors, so I’m turning the yarn into a pretty shawl.

I’m really happy with my new yarns. To keep Ina’s little cards from getting scattered in the package, I put them in a little organza pouch.

And finally, here’s the lucky gnome from Andrea—isn’t it beautiful?

I’ll pack the package tomorrow and reseal it. On Friday morning, I’ll take it to the post office, and it’ll reach Arni (Sandra) soon after. With a bit of luck—just like before—it might even arrive as early as Saturday.

I’m always thrilled by these swap packages, and I want to thank you, dear Ina, from the bottom of my heart for all the love you put into them.

To everyone who’s still eagerly waiting, I hope you enjoy your yarns just as much.

Warm regards from Monika

Good evening—

it’s always nice to be able to bring a little joy to others, and it makes me feel good too.

You’ve picked out some really lovely yarn treasures, Monika. I recognize my yarns. I’m glad they found their way to you.
I figured the mottled yarn would catch your eye for your little dolls.
Thank you so much for sharing these in such detail.

Monika, you really treated yourself to a lovely, extensive yarn bath!
It’s great that you took the time this time to think carefully about which yarn you’ll use for what. It’s a beautiful, colorful selection! I also think the lucky elf is absolutely wonderful!

Dear Monika,
Your yarn selection is beautiful. I'm amazed that you already know so specifically which yarn is going to be made into what.

The lucky elf is a lovely gesture.

Dear Monika,
your additional selection is also very nice. Since you already know what each skein of yarn will become or what it’s meant for, you haven’t taken out too much. Everything was chosen with care. That’s only possible if you take the time and make the effort to do so. After all, the point here isn’t to send the package on immediately. Everyone should take the time to let the yarns sink in. Some yarns don’t speak to us until the second or third glance; suddenly, we see in our mind’s eye what they could become.

That fine, colorful mottled yarn is certainly perfect for your doll clothes. I’m curious to see what it looks like once it’s knitted. It stayed with me for a while, too, but it didn’t speak to me. I suppose every ball of yarn finds its new owner on its own.

Warm regards, Ina

Yes, my dears, I really did take a long yarn bath. :)) And it felt really good. How nice that both of you, Andrea and Ina, recognized your yarns. I never would have expected that the colorful mottled yarn came from you, Ina. I almost left that one in for you… good thing I didn’t. The turquoise yarn is going to be a shawl for my friend for Christmas.

Since I’m now swimming in mountains of yarn—and I have no idea what to do with them—I’ve decided to only get yarn that tells me what it wants to become. And I’m starting with this swap package. I can already let a few ideas come to me for the design, and that’s getting me really excited.

I ended up replacing the cardboard box after all. I would have had to completely re-tape the old one, and I didn’t want to do that. It was already torn all over. Luckily, I had an equally lightweight box in my stash. However, I unfortunately discovered today at the post office that there was 120 g too much in the box. (Our digital scale at home had said beforehand that it was fine, though… strange.) I had to negotiate a bit with the mail carrier, but now it’s on its way to Sandra. If the mail is this fast again, it might even arrive tomorrow.

Here’s the package being loaded into the car this morning:

120 g..... That’s two skeins of yarn 😁😂😁
Hi everyone, I’ve been reading along diligently, but I was too “worn out” to write. Hopefully, the scaffolding around our house will be taken down on Monday, and then things will be quiet again.... The roof is on, we re-clad the gables ourselves—and in this heat, no less.... Now I really need to rest.
And what’s even better, I have time to write again.
You’ve already adopted such beautiful yarn 😍
It’ll be coming to me soon, and I’m so excited to see what I’ll discover....

Yes, I know, but my box weighed about as much as the other one. So it must have weighed more before and was accepted as a gesture of goodwill. There were also knitting needles inside (a set of double-pointed needles). Since I can’t use them, I left them in.

Steffi, you’ll soon be in the fortunate position of getting to enjoy the yarn package. I’m sure there’s something in there for you.

My postal receipt says exactly 5 kg, which I was quite proud of (though according to my bathroom scale, I’d expected it to be a bit less). Maybe it’s common for the post office’s scale to show a higher weight—after all, it’s all about revenue....

....and with the last package I was wondering why that stupid tape weighed so much.... I hadn’t weighed the package after sealing it up completely yet—I had to know whether the weight was right 🙈 it was 40g less, and then boom—at the post office it was 40g too much....
But it’s nice to know that you can still “haggle” a bit 😊

Yes, Veronika, my shipping receipt also says 5 kg—she had to do it that way. In any case, I received the message that things are moving forward, and that’s a good start.

I had to pay a little extra for a package because it was 7g over the limit. Our mail carrier is very strict about that!

Dear Sandra, your package will be there any minute now, yay! I just checked the tracking and saw that it’s been out for delivery since 12:55 p.m. So you can already look forward to the weekend.

Warm regards to everyone from Monika

The package arrived around 1 p.m. After Anton helped me with the initial sorting 🙄, I put the box in a safe place. Later, once Anton is in bed, I’ll take it out again and have a good look at it

How wonderful, Sandra, that it all worked out in just one day and you can now enjoy the weekend with your yarn. Take all the time you need. I wouldn’t have thought either that things could look completely different at second glance.

Have a great weekend!

I think I’ve made my choice.

I set these aside at lunchtime today, thinking, “I don’t need this.”
And then I pictured a cozy pillow in my mind 😃.... So I guess I do need it after all

Blue cotton was already on my shopping list anyway; I’m sure the other colors would make great dinosaurs 😄

I don’t need this—I don’t even have an idea yet—but it was love at first sight.😃😃😃

What do your husbands actually think about the swap package?

My husband looked at me with wide eyes and just asked, “Why don’t you just go to a store? This is a total logistical hassle and nonsense.” I tried to explain it to him and then said, “It’s fun and enjoyable” 😃 and he accepted that 😃

He even calculated how many kilometers our package has traveled—if he didn’t miscalculate, it’s 5,463 km as the crow flies. That’s pretty intense.

I’ll take it to the post office on Monday afternoon. I think it’ll be with Steffi by Wednesday at the latest.

Best regards,

Sandra

My husband is always trying to reason with me. “Why do you buy yarn if you don’t even need it?”
And then he’s completely amazed that I’m not the only one and that we’ve even found each other here. I think he’s now wondering if it might be something contagious. :-))))

That went by fast again. You picked out some beautiful yarn. The glittery yarn is from me. I’m curious to see what you’ll crochet with it. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any ideas for it. Have fun working with it.

My husband is usually very accommodating, but when it comes to the swap package, he says, “Is this what I think it is? You don’t have enough yarn yet,” and laughs.
The annoying thing is that my husband has to run to the package station every time because I’m usually at work. I kind of feel bad for him.
That’s just how it is with hobbies.

I’m going to bed now—I’m exhausted.
Have a relaxing Sunday, everyone.

Oh Sandra, I’m so glad I was able to fulfill a wish for you with the cotton. When I was wrapping it up, I just knew somehow—this was meant for you.

When I saw the unicorn yarn, I thought more of Ina, who knits or crochets pretty clothes for her dolls with it. I was a little tempted too, but with all that glitter in it, I wouldn’t have known what to make of it. On the second day, I decided on something completely different—it was actually kind of fun this time.

My husband is used to it by now; he practically lives my hobby with me. When I announce the swap package, he keeps an eye out for the mail and brings it up to me. And he also takes it back to be shipped—this time together with me. By now, when it comes to yarn, nothing I do surprises him anymore. ;-)

It’s nice to always have the feeling here that I’m not alone with this quirk. So we’re all in good company… smile.

Now I’m going to bed too… after spending the whole evening knitting back on my tunic to fix mistakes… grrr.

I read your posts about the swap package with almost a touch of envy. I really like the idea, and I find it very exciting to see which balls of yarn ultimately end up with you and what they inspire you to create. Of course, I’m now also looking forward to seeing the finished projects.

You’ve already picked out some great yarn. My partner is going to think I’m crazy when the package arrives.
I’m really excited about the dinosaurs, Sandra.

I’m soooo excited.... The package will be with me soon 💖
With all the work/renovating on the house, I couldn’t write along as much this time....
Since yesterday we’re actually done with the roof/tiles, and as of today I’m done too 🙈 just tired and “everything hurts all over”....
A huge package like this comes at just the right time.
I’ve already seen so many great yarns that have found a new home.
My husband just rolled his eyes at the first swap package; by now he still doesn’t really understand it, but he has “come to terms” with it.

Yarn comes from “wanting to have it,” not from needing it. 🙈😁🙈

Dear Steffi,

I like the saying, “Yarn comes from ‘wanting,’ not from needing.” Men don’t have to like what we do. Everyone has their own life and is free to fill it with the things they love. A wise man tolerates that—or better yet, he shares in our joy. That can only earn him bonus points ;-)

Warm regards, Ina
