Wow, Ines, you’ve snagged a Karl too! Awesome! So it looks like each of us “Karl addicts” will be knitting a different version. So exciting! I just can’t stop—the second big patch is already taking shape. It’s almost like a new toy for me that I can’t put down. And I find it very relaxing to follow a pattern for a change instead of just designing my own.

Claudia, it’s great to have you back here after such a long time. I’m so happy about that!

Steffi, your vest looks great. Is it going to be a jacket after all? I really like that zigzag pattern at the bottom. I’ll probably do something similar on my Karl. Your blanket is looking great, too. You really get through a lot of stitches.

Dear Andrea,

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to you in our group. It’s great to have you here now as the creator of the Karls. As you can see, many people here are enthusiastic about them. That seems to be very contagious. :)

Best regards to you and everyone here

Yes, Petra, I also think it’s something completely different. I’ll definitely knit a Karl out of leftover sock yarn, too. For now, I’m working on one for the summer.

It would be great if you could join in, too.

Hihi, I think it’s really funny that Karl fever has broken out here. :)) And I’m also amazed at how many of you have already noticed it.

We can knit Karl tunics together here, each of us using different colors. Awesome!
Once I’m done, I’m going to treat myself to Karl No. 4 as well. Take a look at it—it looks really great.

I’m about to start the second big piece, and tomorrow I’ll keep knitting on the color challenge on the side.

Anja, yes, you knit this from the outside in. The pattern shows how the pieces come together. Just this much—it’s joined by knitting. There’s no sewing involved at all, which makes me very happy.

It was actually the leggings that led me to the shop, where I discovered Karl. I really like the leggings, too. I might very well get started on those too—but there’s no rush. For now, it’s Karl’s turn.

This cute summer outfit fits dolls measuring 43–50 cm and even tiny newborns. It’s quite easy to knit. The top is worked top-down with raglan and has no buttons, making it very easy even for toddlers to handle.

Thank you, Petra, for your feedback. I think they’re very pretty too. The second pattern is still being corrected.

Ines and Anja, since you’re both interested in “Karl” too.
I now have the first patch almost finished. And just as I’d hoped, the next Rellana bobbles arrived today. I’m going to combine two of them with the current bobble in the tunic. I imagine it will look absolutely beautiful.

So, I can say that knitting the patches is truly addictive. I can watch the stitches get fewer and fewer and the patch get fuller and fuller. You see the result much faster than when I knit a sweater from the bottom up. It’s exciting on top of that, because more and more pieces are knitted on.

Here are a few photos:

These are the newly purchased bobbles—the orange-yellow one will be knitted up later in another project:

And this is my almost finished patch and the bobbles I want to combine with it. The one on the right is the one I’m working with.

February Projects + January Projects 2023: the Crazypatterns Craft Group.

Well, I’m back here again. Wow, you’ve all created some beautiful things. Everything is absolutely fantastic!

Andrea, your colorful little projects are always such a lovely sight. Just looking at them brings on that springtime feeling.

Ines, your hand puppet is so cute. Wim is going to love it.

Steffi, your pillow and blanket are a hit. Gorgeous! And don’t even get me started on your bunnies! That new craft project is so cute.

Petra, your name necklace as a gift for a new baby is such a sweet idea. It looks great.

Marlene, you’re in full Christmas ornament mode. You’re getting a head start. ;-)
Your stole looks gorgeous. I’d love those colors and that pattern for myself, too.

Anja, that story about buying yarn is funny. The yarn definitely looks good. Do you already know what you’re going to make with it? In any case, you’re definitely making progress with your knitting.

In the meantime, I’ve also been busy with yarn and needles again. A friend asked for wash mitts for her birthday—with an exfoliating pattern. And that’s how she gave me the idea to design and knit them. Another friend who came to visit saw the wash mitts and loved them so much that she looked at me… and of course I knitted one for her, too. That one’s still on the needles and should be finished tonight.

So I’ve now knitted 7 large washcloths and 4 small ones. They’re for my granddaughters—they’re getting the colorful ones. That let me use up a lot of leftover yarn.

At the same time, I’m knitting a patchwork tunic—it’s called the “Karl Short-Sleeve Tunic.” I fell in love with the pattern right away and bought it on a whim (here at CP). I’ll keep you posted on each step. It’s a real mammoth project, consisting of many individual pieces that are knitted together. But the result is worth it. Probably not your thing, Anja, right? It’s all knit stitches. It’s perfect for watching movies in the evening. I’ll post a photo of the first patch tomorrow.

Of course, I had yet another excuse to buy yarn. I’ve started with one yarn cake. And since I don’t have any yarn that’s exactly the same quality to go with it, I ordered three more yarn cakes from the same company. After all, it has to be worth it… grin. This way, I have more variety for the tunic. It’s going to be beautifully colorful. Let it be a surprise.

New Knitting Patterns for February 2023: Start Knitting Now

A friend wanted wash mitts with exfoliating patterns for her birthday. That’s how I got the idea to knit these three patterns for her in different colors.

Hand-knitted wash mitts are sustainable, and you can never have enough of them. I knitted them from recycled cotton. It has proven itself for me because it can take a lot.

Easy to knit, the patterns are shown in a knitting chart and consist of knit and purl stitches.

New in February 2023: Shop the latest releases now

You can never have enough washcloths. They’re most sustainable when you knit them yourself. These are even made from recycled cotton that can take quite a lot. I really enjoy knitting with it.

A friend asked me for washcloths with an exfoliating pattern. That’s how these washcloths with three different exfoliating patterns came about.

They’re sure to be well received as a gift, and you can make great use of leftover balls of yarn, because they weigh only 30–45 g, depending on the size. The length and width can be chosen freely according to your own preferences.

You can find the knitting pattern here.

Yarn swap package No. 1/2023 is on its way

Wow, Sabine, that’s a really lovely selection. It’s great that you even know what you’re going to make with it. Awesome!

I hope you have a lot of fun working with it. I’m already really excited to see who the next recipient will be and what they’ll get. It’s truly a joy to watch this unfold.

As for me, the gradient yarn with the green in it will most likely become a soul warmer for my friend’s 70th birthday. As for everything else—I don’t have any specific plans yet.

Repurposing old tablecloths / upcycling tablecloths

You’ve all created some amazing things out of tablecloths. I especially love Ruth’s wedding idea.

We love tablecloths, and—except in the summer—they’re always on our dining room table. I find that very cozy. In the summer, we also have a colorful tablecloth out in the garden.

What I don’t really like are the old, plain, light-colored tablecloths. For spring and Easter, we have beautiful, colorful ones with little flowers on them.

Yes, I had a little toy store. Back then, the popular brands came in little packets filled with puffed rice. And the fruit was made of candy. It was really fun. But it’s nothing like the toy stores of today.

Oh, Ines, that’s so nice—the purple yarn is from you. I guess it didn’t feel like traveling anymore. I’m not sure if 250 g is enough for a soul warmer—what do you think?

Yes, Sabine, I just figured you could use the weekend to enjoy it. We don’t have any snow here today, but that’s supposed to change starting tomorrow. When it snows, we don’t necessarily drive our vintage car—only if we absolutely have to. So I made a very quick decision today.

For my tunic project, I’ll have to put together some other yarn, because I need it to be as thin as possible.

Yarn swap package No. 1/2023 is on its way

Dear friends, the huge yarn package arrived at my place today. Luckily, I had time right away to take a good look at it and “immerse” myself in it.

Sabine, you have something to look forward to, because I already dropped it off at Hermes this afternoon. So you might very well have it by the weekend. I’ve already sent you the tracking number in a private message.

It wasn’t easy for me to choose this time. But I just couldn’t bear to part with all these wonderful treasures. I can’t say exactly what I’ll do with them yet, but I already have some ideas. The two thick types of yarn are definitely the favorite colors of two of my friends. A soul warmer would be one idea, or a warm vest, but there are other possibilities too. I’ll incorporate the angora yarn into various projects—it creates beautiful effects. I absolutely had to keep the yellow and red balls of cotton; those are exactly my colors. I’m sure I’ll come up with something soon.

And here are the treasures that wanted to stay with me:

Seersucker Bed Linens

I really like seersucker bedding, especially in the summer. On the other hand, I don’t like satin. I hardly ever iron anything—mainly tablecloths, but never bedding.

In the winter, I like flannel bedding or cozy microfiber.

Ina, what is Badizio? I’ve never heard of it.

Reusing old bedding / Upcycling bedding

This is an interesting topic. I actually have some colorful duvet covers made of very thin fabric, and I don’t want to throw them away just yet. It’s the kind of fabric that isn’t smooth but has a wavy texture.

It just occurred to me that you could use it to sew a Carnival costume, for example—maybe a clown costume. Or even little smocks for the kids to wear when they’re painting.

Top 3 Authors / January 2023

The current Top 3 in my shop are:

Top 1 - the colorful skirt for 3- to 4-year-old girls

This garment has now become the favorite skirt of many little girls, including my granddaughter. It is easy to knit, in one piece, and is wonderful for colorful leftover yarn.

Top 2 - The clothing set for dolls 45-50 cm

I knitted these clothes for the doll child (45-50 cm) from the leftovers from the doll mom’s skirt. That way, both can be dressed in a matching look. Some knitting experience should be available here.

Top 3 - 6 washcloths with different patterns, Part 2

You can use these cloths in many ways - as washcloths, dishcloths, or potholders. Depending on the yarn weight, anything is possible here. While knitting, you’ll get to know several patterns that you can also use for other projects. All patterns consist only of knit and purl stitches.

-------------------------------

The generally popular Top 3 in my shop are these:

Top 1 - Knit socks with an easy heel and 3 needles

With these socks, you’ll learn a very easy heel; you’ll love it. I’ll show you step by step in 4 different sizes how to do it with 3 needles - the CraSyTrio.

Top 2 - The colorful skirt for 3- to 4-year-olds (see Top 1 above)

Top 3 - The transforming pinafore skirt for toddlers

This pinafore skirt grows with the child in a special way. It fits from 1.5 years and then for a very long time. Little by little, it turns into a small skirt, after the straps have already grown along with the child.

Do you have leftover yarn? How about knitting these warm pants for a doll child? It’s very easy, even for beginners with knitting experience. I knitted the top part of the pants with a circular needle, and the legs with the CraSyTrio. The pattern includes two versions for the leg cuffs.

A baby really needs a warm sleeping bag now, preferably made from cuddly-soft merino wool. I knitted this one for my granddaughter, and she still fits into it at 1 year old.

The sleeping bag is easy to knit. You should have at least some knitting experience for the pattern.

Repairing a mini doll from an old dollhouse

Thanks, Petra. I’m glad you like it.

Well… this little doll was nibbled on by a mouse and lost her hair and part of her dress in the process. Now I really hope the mouse doesn’t give me any more work and leaves the rest of the doll family alone. :)

Yes, Ruth, it’s much easier with a crocheted head. The knotting was quite tedious here, especially because the head is so tiny. Your tips here definitely helped me achieve this result. So I definitely want to say thank you to all of you for that!

Yeah, kids these days are already very picky at age 4. I know that from my two granddaughters. You really have to ask them beforehand what they like and don’t like right now. So far, I’ve always been lucky, but in the future I’d rather ask the parents before I go to all that trouble. You’re lucky that your grandson lives nearby—that makes it easier.

Repairing a mini doll from an old dollhouse

So, now the little doll has a completely new outfit. I’m already curious to see what my friend thinks of it. She’s now wearing a knitted dress and a curly wig. How do you like her?

Here are the individual steps:
I used a small piece of insect netting where the holes are clearly visible. I embroidered little loops into it using mohair yarn. Beforehand, I measured the circumference of her head. I’m not usually that into this kind of mini-crafting, but I actually had fun with this one. She’ll be moving back into her very old dollhouse on Wednesday.

Here’s what the individual pieces for her hair looked like.

Wow, Ines, those are some really lovely little treasures you’ve picked out. What a wonderful selection!

I’m already super excited about the package—I’ve actually found a pattern for a short-sleeve sweater made from different colors in a patchwork style. I’ll take a look in the package first to see if there’s anything suitable for that. Ombré yarn would be perfect for that. I’m already itching to get started on it. Now I’m sooo excited and looking forward to it like it’s Christmas.

Of course, I’ll show off my treasures here too, and the finished project later on.

I wish everyone a wonderful weekend!
