The leftover yarn is waiting in the basket—
is there a lovelier place?

It shines at me with its beautiful colors,
and now I have no idea where to even start.

I’ll just grab my crochet hook and
bike over to the neighbor’s.

The neighbor is amazed—I knew it would happen,
since I’d only recently warned him about the hook!

Oh no, now he’s been struck by yarn addiction too.
And oh no, my favorite magazine with the pattern is already sold out!

No problem—we’ll just check out CrazyPatterns online;
the selection is huge—and I’m sure we’ll find just the right thing.

An Easter basket—now that would be something!
Or maybe an Easter bunny?

Or perhaps a colorful Easter egg
after all— and off we go, the search begins.

A colorful Easter wreath would be great, too; slowly but surely, the wish list is filling up.

And there are only a few weeks left until Easter!
Oh—I just remembered, we need new socks.

Oh, come on—socks! My table needs a new decoration
. Bring on those cute little chickens!

And then some little caps for the eggs and flowers for the table.
Oh, how lovely my Easter breakfast table will be.

Now I just need an Easter arrangement.
A quick peek in the closet to check the leftovers.

Pink, green, yellow, white: exactly what I’m looking for
. Or would it be better to crochet a shawl with these colors?

A really colorful stole would definitely be a hit, too—I have plenty of yarn, so let’s get to it.

Of course, a colorful stole for the Easter
walk, and the Easter Bunny comes along on his scooter. I wonder what the Bunny will bring me this year?
I hope I can manage...

...to gently and quietly convince him
to bring me new yarn—heaps of it...
and to do it secretly, quietly, and discreetly.

But then my basket would be too small.
Ah, I know—I’ll make a new one; that’ll hold a lot.

By the time I have all that, Easter will be over
. But I don’t care.

It’s all about taking part—I’ll get started right away…
And I’ll just use the yarn that was meant for the thick scarf.

Quickly bought some more yarn for the new Easter project...
Oh, how cool—what else did I just discover?

Is it Easter already, and has the Easter Bunny been here?
I think I’m dreaming... and yet it’s true...

Yarn, yarn, piles and piles of it, colorful and soft,
the Easter Bunny is giggling over by the pond.

He thinks it’s funny what I’m doing with all this yarn...

Happy Weekend: Download the New Weekend Project

This round collar looks wonderful, for example under a sweater. It has several advantages that aren’t immediately obvious. If you have a baby girl, you can even use this round collar as a little skirt—and later wear it yourself.

The pattern is great for beginners (with basic skills). It’s written without abbreviations and is printer-friendly. The photos are on separate pages.

The collar can easily be finished in a weekend. You’ll only need one ball of cotton yarn.

Question about cable and Aran patterns

Mel, how do you wash this piece? Silk is very delicate and needs to be hand-washed—and wool, of course, too. It could actually be due to the yarn or the wash cycle.

Well, I’d love to join in, because I knit and crochet even in the summer. I’m especially active in the garden and am already looking forward to sitting outside while I work. And there’s internet in the summer, too.

Yes, there are still UFOs, and I’d especially like to make progress with my leftover yarn. Little crochet projects like these are perfect to tackle in the summer.

March Projects: All Easter and Spring Models + UFO Week March 21–28 + Yarn Diet: Final Round for World Domination + Tunisian Crochet Continues + Best of the Leftovers

For the simple reason that I want to visit Waltraud in her shop in May and also need more yarn for a project, I probably won’t be taking part in “Conquering the Inner Slacker” anymore.
Plus, even after world domination, I’ll still be using up a lot of “diet yarn.” I already have a few new projects buzzing around in my head.

I have one UFO at the moment that I’d like to finish in March if possible. It’s this one—a poncho made from sock yarn:

Since I want to crochet the birthday gifts for my granddaughter first—she’ll turn 2 on my birthday this month—time is a bit tight. But I think I’ll manage it anyway.

I’m currently designing the birthday gift. She needs various items for her play kitchen. So no bunnies, chicks, etc.

Floral decorations are still planned. Now I’m adding matching coasters to the set. And I could also make something with floral decorations in Tunisian crochet. Let’s see what I come up with—maybe another mug cozy?

There’s plenty to do again. I’m looking forward to it!

I wish you all a creative and joyful day!

Monika

Making the Best of Leftovers // UFO Week Feb. 21–28 // Yarn Diet // All February Projects

Dear Josefa, I’m absolutely thrilled by everything you’ve written. It was such a joy to read. I’ve had a permanent grin on my face ever since. :-) Thank you so much for being who you are and for all you do! It’s so much fun having you here! It’s only now that I’ve really realized everything I’ve accomplished this month.

I feel like family participation can just run alongside in the threads. I can’t say whether a separate thread is worth it.

I hope you have a lovely evening too, with a good feeling. You’ve really brought us joy tonight.

I’m looking forward to continuing in March (my favorite month) with UFOs, Tunisian crochet and co., and of course with the Yarn Diet. I’m really into it now and (almost) immune whenever I walk past yarn.

Thanks, Caro. Yeah, I’m in love with that sweater, too. It’s sure to look cute when worn.
I actually stayed up late crafting last night.
Yes, together we really do get a lot more done here than we would alone. That makes me really happy.

Christina, you’ve gotten so much done, too—just great!
And Arni, your pieces are really beautiful as well. I don’t think the colors are so bad at all. You can do a lot with them. I’m sure you’ll come up with something lovely.

Making the Best of Leftovers // UFO Week Feb. 21–28 // Yarn Diet // All February Projects

I just noticed that the leftover yarn from the 4 skeins looks much bigger than it actually is. There’s maybe 1/4 of a skein of yellow and blue left...

And now the egg cozies and flowers—to complement the spring meadow—all made from leftover yarn. And also more tissue pouches made from leftover yarn:

I can’t reconstruct the leftover yarn exactly anymore, since I used some additional scraps in the meantime. I think it shows well enough as it is. I posted the original photo of the yarn here somewhere.

Making the Best of Leftovers // UFO Week Feb. 21–28 // Yarn Diet // All February Projects

Christina, everything you’ve whipped up there is absolutely beautiful! Wow, sooo much!

Yay, I’ve finally finished my UFO—the child’s sweater in a long-pullover style, basically a mix between a sweater and a dress. I tried three different collar variations, and this one ended up being my favorite. If it weren’t for the UFO challenge, I probably would’ve waited until it fit my granddaughter… which would’ve been at least half a year from now.

In the second picture, you can see the yarn left over from 4 balls. It went a long way, and the sweater is nice and light.

Then today I also finished a floral placemat, which was actually another UFO. It’s part of the “Spring Meadow” set, which I crocheted entirely from leftover yarn. Here’s the new floral placemat, and next to it is the “Spring Meadow”—made entirely from leftover yarn and, of course, “diet” yarn.

This is what the yarn looked like before, and the second picture shows the leftovers.

Wishing Well with the Good Fairy

That’s a great idea, Josefa! :-)

I wish:

1. that my husband and I stay healthy and that we have many more wonderful years together ahead of us,

2. that we travel a lot this year in our old RV and have nice weather along the way,

3. that our children and grandchildren stay healthy and that we get to see them often.

Happy with February? How are you all doing?

Mel, I love knitting, and I enjoy it even more than I used to. It’s such a wonderful way to experiment. But I’ve come to love crocheting, too. Some things are just easier to do that way.

Happy with February? How are you all doing?

Mel, you’ll enjoy the cable pattern too—it’s actually really simple. I used to knit that a lot, in all kinds of variations. Right now, I’m more into experimenting with knit-and-purl patterns. But I’ll be getting back to cables soon—I already have plenty of ideas.

The closer spring gets, the more ideas start sprouting in my head. I think I’d need another lifetime to make all of this happen. :-)

Flowers + Blossoms: Turn Leftover Yarn into Decorative Pieces

This colorful spring meadow is crocheted entirely from leftover yarn. The set includes decorative flower accents, a large placemat—edged with flower petals—and egg cozies with floral decorations and butterflies.

The entire set is very easy to crochet, even for beginners (with basic skills). It’s quick to make, so you can bring spring into your home in no time.

Romantic + Feminine +++ with Ruffles

This pink-and-white feminine triangular shawl with an openwork pattern and waves can also be worn as a poncho. It looks lovely for any occasion and is sure to turn heads. I’ve often been asked where it can be purchased.

The arrangement of the pattern gives this poncho shawl an extra special 3D effect, which the pink waves further enhance. The openwork pattern and lightweight cotton create an airy feel when worn, and at the same time, this poncho shawl provides wonderful warmth on cool spring or summer evenings.

The pattern is suitable for advanced knitters and includes all the details, including the pattern charts. Since knitting this requires a little patience, it’s worth getting started now.

Creating Patterns: What Skills Do You Need?

I can only agree with what’s been written here so far. Above all, enjoying the process is key—otherwise, you’ll give up very quickly or lose your passion for it. And customers notice that right away.

Proper spelling is also important. Of course, a typo can happen from time to time—it happens to everyone and will surely be forgiven. But the patterns and the sales copy should definitely be written correctly. That also affects sales figures and your own image.

I also think a clear layout with enough spacing and short paragraphs is important. Bullet points or tables are helpful to make it as easy as possible for the customer.
