Forum Game: Packing List for Your Vacation Craft Suitcase

Dear users and authors,

I’m sure you take your craft supplies with you on vacation, right? At least every now and then. There are quite a few things that go in there. Here, we can work together to create a vacation checklist. Here’s how it works:

Everyone adds an item to the list here—something they absolutely can’t do without. To avoid duplicates, please always copy the previous items and add your own below them.

Example: The first person writes “knitting needles.” The second person then copies that and writes “sewing needles” below it. The next person copies both and adds their own item… and so on.

I’m sure we’ll end up with quite an impressive collection. And anyone going on vacation can check here to see what else they need to pack in their suitcase.

Who’s in? I’ll just get the ball rolling.

August Projects: Have Fun Crafting and Enjoy a Nice Chat

Claudia, is that a set of barbecue utensils in the photo? Unfortunately, it’s hard to tell. Fun idea. :)

Yes, good friends are truly worth so much. We’re also very grateful to have such rare gems in our lives.

August Projects: Have Fun Crafting and Enjoy a Nice Chat

Wow, I’ve barely been away for a day—and already so many lovely things are finished. :)

Great little basket, Christina. I also had some trouble with those double stitches the first time around. But now I love them when the crochet piece needs stability. And they’re actually quite simple.

Marlene, your hat looks great! I like it. (It is a hat, right?)

By the way, today I had my first idea for Christmas gifts for my two granddaughters. They’re both getting a summer jacket for next year. Both will have a nautical theme and the same color combination. However, each of them will still get a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. Most of the time, the final ideas come to me while I’m knitting.

I’ve realized that the circular jacket really isn’t for me. But while knitting, I came up with a new pattern that I really love. I’ll use that in a jacket or sweater sometime.

And one more thing—my UFO, the leggings for Linja—is finished tonight. I just have to weave in a few ends. Photos will probably follow tomorrow.

Weekend Projects: Download Now.

A real beginner project—even with leftover yarn—is this cuddly little bear for babies. It’s very easy to knit. The pattern explains every step in detail.

To the knitting pattern for the baby bear here

There is also perfectly matching clothing for this little bear. The pattern includes the sweater and a sleeping bag. The advantage here is that the bear does not need to be washed as often. After all, it is “wearing protective clothing.” ;-)

To the knitting pattern for the baby bear’s clothing

This is what it looks like with the clothing on—it also fits other teddy bears about 35–40 cm tall.

How about a cute leftover-yarn project for your children or grandchildren?
The dolls probably need a new pair of trousers again. These fit dolls measuring 45–50 cm.

These trousers can easily be knitted over a weekend, even by beginners with some knitting experience.

Note: There are also patterns available for a matching sweater or a little jacket with a hat.

Wow—how lovely! Marion, I like this bag even better than the last one. Very pretty pattern!

Ruth, the dresses are absolutely gorgeous! Little projects like these are a real challenge for me.

I’m currently working on knitting a circular jacket. I really want to try that too, so I’m giving it a shot with my teddy bear first. At least that gives me a new project for now.

And then I want to get back to knitting socks. I’m planning to try out some new patterns then.

Yes, Mel, sometimes it really is very important to give the most important people in our lives our full attention.

I still take my needles and yarn with me on vacation, since my husband also likes to go off and take photos on his own sometimes. I like to use that time for crafting.

I hope you have a relaxing time too after so much work. That always does you good.

Sandra, I already wish you lots of fun with the “Wichteln.” That’s a real labor of love. The good thing about it is that your leftover yarn will practically melt away. I’m already very excited to see your little gnomes. They’re sure to be fun and well received.

First I’m going to finish my UFO—the leggings. Then we’ll see what’s next.

For the doorstop, I’m still missing that brilliant idea for how to finish it. Maybe it’ll come to me this month.

In any case, I’ve got quite a bit planned.

New in August 2019

Do you have grandchildren or children who have a Puky, balance bike, or tricycle? Then you’ll make them incredibly happy with this attachable bag! They can use it to take their stuffed animal or doll for a ride, for example, or carry little treasures with them on the go. This is especially fun for them in the fall, for example when the chestnuts are falling.

The pattern file contains two versions—one with detailed photos and one printable version.

Recommended for experienced crocheters.

New Crochet Patterns for August 2019

My granddaughter wanted this bag for her Puky and her balance bike. She now uses it to take her doll for a ride. The bag can easily be pulled over the handlebars and also fits a tricycle.

Recommended for experienced crocheters.

The special feature: the crochet pattern is available in two versions - once without photos and once with photos.

Final stretch and awards ceremony / July 2019 issue

[ x] I didn’t let the heat throw me off, so I’m a Perseverance Queen.
I bravely made it through the heat and finished crocheting a larger project.

UFO Queen in July
[ x] I finished a UFO in July and have therefore earned the title UFO Queen in July.
-The crochet skirt took a lot of patience and got finished.

Yarn diet / Yarn Empress / Inner-Pig-Dog Conqueror in July
[ x] I’d like the title Inner-Pig-Dog Conqueror, because the final round for world domination / rule over our galaxy / the Milky Way / (for 8 months without buying yarn ) /Half-Year Empress / Three-Quarter-Year Empress was and is not enough for me. = 1 whole year without buying yarn is the goal.
No yarn bought since November 2018 - I’d like to keep going until November 2019

--> Who is currently working on the Inner-Pig-Dog Conqueror?
Me :-)

Hardworking Brownie in July
[x ] I was able to complete / finish two larger handmade projects in July.
A crochet skirt and a newly designed matching top
[ ] I was also very hardworking in everyday life in July.
I made lots and lots of jam and processed / froze fruit.

Hero of the Authors = author title in July
[ x] I uploaded at least one new pattern here on Crazypatterns in July.

The bag for my granddaughter’s Puky and balance bike

Rescuer of the unruly yarn / unruly material, formerly Stepchild Yarn Rescuer //
Stepchild Material Rescuer in July
[ x] In July I used up old or unloved yarn and am therefore a rescuer of unruly yarn / yarn rescuer, or rather I gave this yarn a new purpose in life. :- )
I knitted my new top from this yarn to match the skirt.

Frog Monster Conqueror in July
[ ] In July I partially or completely unraveled an unfinished handmade project or UFO and then still finished it completely / made something wonderful out of it. I am therefore a Frog Monster Conqueror.
I had to unravel half of both the front and back of the top again because there was a mistake in it.

Learned something new in July
[x ] I learned something new in July (e.g. a fascinating new technique / type of stitch, etc.) and am therefore a winner. :- )
For my top, I tried a new lace pattern that I had never knitted before.

[x ] I made use of the sunny + hot days and had fun in the garden and on the balcony, etc.
I mostly sat in the garden with my handmade projects.

I also almost finished knitting a UFO - my granddaughter’s leggings. Only the finishing work is left, which I’ll get done in August.

Woolly Wednesday: How are your leftover yarn scraps doing?

I feel exactly the same way as Ina. My yarn is already looking forward to being worked up. In any case, I’ll be using up my stash at least until November. I was also very brave and resisted every tempting offer, no matter how lovely. I’m really proud of that.

Aerial artists: Everything that flies. // Get crafting now

After its flights, this owl has found a safe place to land—and is doing a great job there, too. It reliably guards the room door.

This door guard is a huge hit with kids. It’s best to crochet it right away as a Christmas or St. Nicholas Day gift.

Easy to crochet, even for beginners with some crocheting experience.

Note: My shop also offers a value set of door guards—an owl with a little bear.

Ladybugs usually fly, of course. In my home, though, they’ve settled in the kitchen and are happy about hot pots. They do a really good job there.

These two are very easy to crochet. And if you still don’t have a Christmas gift - here it is. You’re sure to make someone very happy with this.

Perfect for beginners.

25er: Only two days left until the weekend kicks off

Older toddlers will love a warm jacket with a hood and pockets. That way, they can carry all the treasures they’ve found home. This colorful cardigan is nice and cozy, very comfortable, and fits sizes 92–104. It’s knitted from the top down with raglan sleeves.

Recommended for experienced knitters.

It’ll be getting cooler soon. And then the baby will need a warm jacket and a hat. This one is knitted in sock yarn and has a pretty pattern of knit and purl stitches that looks good on both sides. The jacket fits babies from 3 to 12 months.

You should have good knitting experience.

Note: I also have a pattern for matching pants in my shop.

The sleeping bag for dolls and teddy bears measuring 40–50 cm is very popular. It even fits a newborn or premature baby. Doll moms especially love it when their little darling is also in a sleeping bag that is just as pretty as those for real babies.

The sleeping bag is easy to knit for anyone who has knitted before.

Colorwork Knitting Charts

There are various types of knitted-in patterns. Figures, pictures, or other motifs can be knitted in using multiple colors.

You can also create 3D patterns using certain techniques. Cables are one example.

And you can also knit in figures—such as hearts—using knit and purl stitches.

Claudia, I’ve learned quite a bit from you again. I didn’t know any of that yet.
I’m sure I can use this fabric stiffener sometime. Great!

Be sure to let me know how it goes with the wood glue. I find that interesting too.

I could also see using the fabric stiffener to reinforce the bottom of my Puky bag. It just shouldn’t wash out.

Stoff-Steif sounds interesting. I’ve never heard of it before...
What you’ve made with it looks really pretty, Claudia.

Now that the temperatures are back to a point where I can handle warm merino wool without soaking it through, I’ll see how far I can get with my UFO. Linja’s leggings just need the second leg finished all the way to the bottom, then they’ll be as good as done.

My doorstop is coming along too, but I still need to work on the design a bit. I’m still missing that brilliant idea for the finishing touch.

The baby looks absolutely adorable in this cute little strappy dress. It’s definitely an eye-catcher and perfect for special occasions, too.

For experienced knitters, the lace pattern offers a welcome change of pace. I based it on a jacket that’s over 50 years old.
