What are colorwork knitting charts and what are they used for?

There are various types of knitted-in patterns. Figures, pictures, or other motifs can be knitted in using multiple colors.

You can also create 3D patterns using certain techniques. Cables are one example.

And you can also knit in figures—such as hearts—using knit and purl stitches.

Knitted motifs—that reminds me of a little children’s sweater I knitted for my son about 28 years ago. He loved the mischievous Pumuckl and Master Eder. So I knitted him this sweater with a knitted motif using leftover yarn. Well, today it might look a little neater, and I would have used different yarns, but he was very proud of that sweater back then.
