Dear users, dear authors,
from August to October, the long yarn diet is running for everyone who would like to join in: Stick it out for three months to make it to the final round for ruling the Milky Way.
Who among you is taking part?
How big are your stashes?
--> If you only want to stick it out for one month, you can do that too.
If you don’t feel like dieting at all right now, of course you don’t have to.
So far, I haven’t bought anything in August, but I don’t think I’ll be dieting...
I still have 3 unopened yarn cakes, 6 skeins of fluffy yarn, a couple of skeins of cotton for amigurumi, and a few skeins I need for my motif blanket.
Unfortunately, I had a pile of yarn in a cloth bag sitting on the floor, and my cat decided to use that exact corner of the room as a litter box...
--> Very gross—the bag went straight into the trash.
My yarn stash is dwindling very slowly.
For one thing, I’m still using up the leftovers from the colour campaign.
Plus, my 1 kg yarn cake has to be used for the tablecloth.
I still have about 600g of viscose-silk yarn,
400g of merino wool,
300g of acrylic yarn,
600g of sock yarn,
and my box of cotton yarn in various colors.
Plus, I have 2 cakes and that fluffy acrylic yarn cake for my blanket.
I’m amazed myself—but that’s all I have :D
Oh dear, I’m well-stocked again—enough for both winter and summer. I could “live” off of it for at least a year. I just need to add one more little thing, and then I’ll easily make it through a few months—without even flirting with any yarn. ;-)
In July, I wasn’t very good and bought quite a few skeins of various cotton yarns. Unfortunately, I often find myself missing just the right material for a specific project… But now I’m determined to go on a diet!
Oh yes... I could easily live off my yarn stash for a year. Unfortunately, I have many balls of yarn with only one of each. So either I’ll make something big in bright, vivid colors or lots of small projects. I’m determined to stick with it for at least 3 months. However, fall is still coming—and with it, the season for yarn sales. I haven’t looked at the summer sale catalogs for fear of giving in..... but it’s also hard for a yarn addict! ;-)
I also have enough yarn at home to last many months. I used to think that was totally crazy, but now I’m just as caught up in the shopping frenzy. So: I “have to” buy something in August, too ;-) ...ugh, strictly speaking, I’ve already done that. But it was just 5 skeins of ribbon yarn—that doesn’t even count *cackle*
I’m still taking part and working through my yarn stash. (Last purchase — mid-2017.)
It’s going pretty well, since I can still work on plenty of larger projects.
Applause for Marion!! Wow - you're amazing! Haven't bought anything for 8 months. Great!
Michaela, I'm joining in. ;-)
I just need one (or a few?) skeins of Bobbel yarn or gradient yarn, nothing more.
We agree that this totally doesn't count. ... grin
I’m going to think of my husband too now and knit him a nice cable-knit vest. He often gets cold when he’s sitting at the computer, so a warm merino vest is just the thing.
Oops… since he wants the vest in beige, I’ll actually have to buy more yarn this month. ;-)
I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all to buy yarn that you use right away. After all, that’s the whole point of the hobby, isn’t it? And that yarn doesn’t just sit around for long. What’s bad are those impulse buys (such a good deal, so soft, such beautiful colors…) that you hoard at home and plan to use “someday.” But it ends up sitting there because something else always comes up. And eventually, you don’t even remember what you wanted to make with it, or you just don’t like it that much anymore...
Yeah, that’s true. Unfortunately, I’ve always done that, and at some point I ended up with a mountain of yarn in front of me. It wasn’t enough for the projects I wanted to make, so I had no idea what to do with it. But I promise to do better. Doing it the other way around somehow makes more sense.
Well, I’d like to try it for the first time—going 1 or 2 months without buying any yarn. To be honest, I have plenty—not quite enough for big projects, but plenty for small ones.
I’d like to use up my stash, especially since we have to save money anyway. First a new car, now a new motorcycle. This “wool diet” comes at just the right time. And with all of you, I’m sure I can do it—it can’t be that hard. I’m in.
Thanks, Nancy and mowi. Yes, I read about UFO Week—I’ve got something for that, too.
I really need to start cutting back a bit to make room for new projects. Everyone here is so kind and nice, so nothing can go wrong. Exactly—motivation is everything.
