Funny
egg cozies, not just for Easter! They are an
ideal way to use up leftover yarn.
Quick and easy to knit in one TV evening, they make a last-minute little gift for any occasion.
Basic knitting skills are enough.
We knit in the round with a set of double-pointed needles. If you don't want to do a double long-tail cast-on, you can alternatively knit 4 rounds in garter stitch so the egg cozy doesn't roll up. Decorations are possible according to your wishes and your own creativity.
Material:
Basically, any yarn can be used with a slightly smaller needle size than stated on the label.
1 egg cozy: approx. 10 g – 15 g yarn (leftover) + little bits of leftover yarn for decorating;
here: set of double-pointed needles size 4.0 and crochet hook approx. 3.0 for “knotting in hair”;
yarn needle for weaving in ends, sewing needle and buttons if needed, measuring tape, scissors.
Recommendation: safety eyes if the egg cozies are used as amigurumi for small children.
Included in the PDF download:
- Short pattern in text form, written for yarns with approx. 105 m length per 50 g
- Step-by-step illustrated pattern, written for yarns with approx. 85 m length per 50 g
each knitted with a set of double-pointed needles size 4.0 (then the egg cozies turn out nicely dense and stand up on their own)
- Photo tutorial “Embroidering in duplicate stitch”
- Photo tutorial “Knotting in hair with a crochet hook"
- Separate PDF pattern for the “Double long-tail cast-on”

LOOK IT UP instead of calculating - PDF chart for knitting and crochet

Here it is - the much-requested
PDF chart for determining the number of stitches to cast on:
LOOK IT UP instead of calculating - whether printed out or on a smartphone, always at hand - this PDF chart is simply
practical on the go.
You
crochet or knit your gauge swatch (at least 10 cm x 10 cm), count how many stitches make 10 cm for you, and can then conveniently look up in the chart how many stitches you need to cast on for your desired measurement.
However, if you want exact calculations with “divisible by” specifications - as is usually required for stitch patterns - you can do this using this Excel chart Gauge Conversion Chart - Knitting and Crochet . For this, a spreadsheet program is then required (if you don't have Excel: e.g. LibreOffice is available as a free download on the web). This chart based on calculated formulas is available here (click me).
