Let’s start with babies and toddlers. Knitting clothes like these is always a joy. They’re quick to make and always make a welcome gift.


These leggings grow with the child from about 1.5 to 3 years.

Babies need a warm sleeping bag from fall through spring. This one fits at least up to one year old and is knitted from cozy, soft, warm merino wool.

Sock yarn is also great for knitting warm children’s clothing. This sweater with a collar and button placket fits children from about 2 to 3.5 years old.

My granddaughter received this jacket when she was 4 months old. At age 2, it actually still fits her because the merino wool stretches a little as she grows. The hood can sometimes even replace a hat.

These knitted pants with suspenders, made from sock yarn, are ideal for toddlers ages 1 and up. They stay in place, and the tummy always stays nice and warm. The suspenders are adjustable, so the pants grow with the child a little.
