Ombré—no longer just for hair, but also for fabrics and wool

Hi everyone,
I actually thought the ombré trend might be starting to die down a bit. For those who aren’t familiar with it, “ombré” is what happens when people—well, mostly women—dye the ends of their hair a different shade than the rest of their hair. It’s also great when the roots start to grow out and the rest of the hair is still a different color. :) But usually, that’s intentional and gets done
at the salon for a lot of money. Here’s an example:

. It actually looks really good on that woman, but that’s professional work, and the whole look is pretty harmonious. There are also completely different examples with hair.
Anyway, I actually thought the trend was over, but no—it was still in demand at least in 2015. Maybe things will be better in 2016?

In any case,
ombré is now also available in fabrics—specifically in multicolored sewn items—and it looks really good there.

This is an English-language site; I haven’t really seen this in German-speaking countries yet, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything—maybe I’ve missed a trend again ;)
So, if this isn’t a trend in German-speaking countries yet, it’s definitely going to become
one soon because, somehow, everything from the U.S. ends up here eventually.
It reminds me a little of that color-blocking stuff, but ombré looks much better on fabric.

But really, fabric and color ombré is just a new name for “color gradient,”
and of course, you can do that with crochet and knitting, too.

Do you like it?

Besides, the Ombré look also pairs wonderfully with a long bob, as Jessica Alba proves. We're completely smitten with her subtle two-tone look, which instantly makes the actress look much fresher.
This is the text for photo 4 of 37 from the hair-dyeing link above
http://www.stylight.de/Magazine/Beauty/Ombre-Hair/

so there you have it again: if you want to be cool, you have to cram lots of English words into a text, and then you're cool too, or something like that
but that's just a side note ;)
I went ahead and read the whole article now
and Ombré hair is about looking sun-kissed, on your head, that is.
I assume that's not the goal of the ombré trend for fabrics and yarn; that's probably more about having fun with colors and not about the surfer look, fresh from the beach and jumping into a selfie and all that ;)
If you scroll a bit farther through the photo slideshow, there's also a man with ombré hair.
 if that's your thing.
people always say nothing can ruin a beautiful face,
yes, it can: sunflower-yellow hair, for example.
but that might be more like dip-dye. :) that's about bold color contrasts
and not ombré anymore, since that actually means "shadow," or rather shaded nuances
and it's about naturalness; who would have thought, right?
There are also extensions with bold colors to clip in, so you don't have to mess around with dyeing
or would you rather have rainbow hair?

somehow I never really noticed that trends actually jump from hair to DIY.
but when you think about it, it actually makes sense
Hair is about expressing your individual personality, about trends and all that
and of course that's an important topic in DIY too

simply owning who you are, what you like, maybe also changing your look or adding a new pop of color, just trying something out or changing something
I mean, hair grows back
and you can have more than one blanket and pillow and DIY item, so you can keep expressing your own taste or newly discovered preferences in new ways.

what do you all think about it?

This is the first time I’ve heard the word “ombré.” When it comes to fashion trends, I’m apparently way behind the times. ;-) That’s not to say I don’t dress well—I just have my own style and know what looks best on me.
I do my own hair (except for cutting it), and I’ve been using the same color (*I admit*) for years because I don’t want to experiment with it.

Moving from fashion trends to DIY—specifically crocheting and knitting—the trend is clearly toward gradient yarns. You can achieve great effects with them even without elaborate stitch patterns, and they just look fantastic. There are practically no limits to the possible combinations.

And as far as “coolness” goes—I think it’s terrible that there’s more and more “Denglish” in our language. Sure, it can’t be completely avoided. But other things get lost in the process. Like, for example, the correct use of the genitive case. When even a news anchor says “wegen den” instead of “wegen der” (I noticed that yesterday on the “Heute” news), that’s definitely a bad sign. The dative is the genitive’s undoing... ;-))))

Best regards
Michaela

I don’t like color gradients in hair, but they look good on wool

Oh, it HAS to be like that?! *laughs*
And I always thought those were dyeing mishaps—or that people just hadn’t had time to touch them up yet. Turns out they were just fashion-forward... oops. :)
Well, learned something new again. But it’s not really my thing.

When it comes to clothes, blankets, decor, etc., I usually really like multicolored designs. It depends, of course, but when the colors go well together, it looks great. I don’t know if this is actually a new trend. I’ll just do what I like anyway, not what some current trend tries to dictate. :)
