I found two super cute crochet patterns online, but unfortunately I can’t use them because they’re in Russian.
Also, you can’t copy the text and paste it into an online translator because they’re image files. *sniff*
Now I’m looking for someone who can translate the patterns for me — there isn’t much text in a pattern like that anyway.
I also signed up here especially because I thought it would be helpful if the person had some crafting knowledge. ;-)
I’d be incredibly happy if someone could be found and help me with this. :-)
Hi. I don’t want to be a killjoy, but this is a very sensitive issue. Are these free, open-access patterns—the kind anyone can use? Or are they paid patterns?
My recommendation would be to write to the author of the patterns and ask if she still has them in another language or if she’d allow you to have them translated for your own use.
Hey there, and thanks so much for your reply.
The pattern is free—it’s available to everyone on the website. :-)
I’ve already messaged them (in English, just like you suggested) and asked if they could send me the pattern as plain text or in English—unfortunately, I haven’t received a reply yet.
I do speak Russian, but I can only crochet a little. Depending on how complicated the pattern is, I’d still try to help you if you can’t find any better help.
I’ve already been able to translate a small part with the help of an online Russian keyboard. :-)
The pattern itself is here:
http://kliry.blogspot.ru/2011/11/2012.html
- first of all, the first image -
As far as I’ve translated it correctly, the beginning says:
условные обозначения - legend
вл - chain stitch
уб. убавка - crochet 2 together
пр. прибавка - 2 stitches into one
цифра кол-во СБН - crochet 3 together
3в1 -3сбн в одну петлю - 3 stitches into one
cc - соединительный столбик - slip stitch
голова - head
кольцо - ring
1. At the beginning you’re probably supposed to make 6 chain stitches
2. Row: crochet two stitches into each stitch - so increase - you’re supposed to get to 12 stitches
and now I’m stuck. I don’t know what
3р.(1,пр.)-6р.=18
is supposed to mean. You’re probably supposed to increase again so that you get to 18 stitches. But I can’t figure out which stitches you’re supposed to insert the hook into in order to increase them.
Normally, German patterns always say something like “every 2nd stitch” or “every 3rd stitch” - but unfortunately I can’t read that out of this at all.
I think if I know what the symbols mean, I can also read and understand the rest of the pattern reasonably well. ;-)
Well, you’ve already done a great job getting started! And as I can see, you’ve already found some great help.
Until she gets that far, I’ll try to help a little more:
пр - прибавка - literally means “addition,” so I’d interpret it this way:
Row 3: 1 regular stitch, then an “increase” (i.e., work 2 stitches into every 2nd stitch)
Row 4: 2 regular stitches, then an “increase” (i.e., work 2 stitches into every 3rd stitch)
etc.
Nothing changes in row 7; in row 8, work 2 stitches into every 6th stitch; rows 9 through 13 stay the same; and in row 14, you’re supposed to change color.
By the way, the comment also points out an error in the description of the hands - so be careful!
Hi, so I'm now on the body, round 7.
After the last instruction
2 sc in the next st* six times (45 sts)
are you supposed to finish the round with sc, or continue straight on with round 8?
I still have 20 stitches left unworked before the end of the round...?
In rounds 8, 12, etc., it's the same; nothing else is written there.
But there's probably nothing else in the original pattern either, right? ;-)
Hi, I saw here on the forum that you might translate patterns. I found a free pattern on Ravelry, but it’s in English. I usually manage just fine, but certain nuances are tricky. Can you help me?
Best regards, Anika
Hi,
I'm not sure whether this page is still being read, but I have the same problem mentioned above.
I would like to crochet the ***model***; the pattern is available for free, in Russian and in English. I'm overwhelmed by both.
Maybe one of you can tell me:
What is meant by CE, sc, PIB, PSN and things like that?
It would be great if I could get a little help.
Hi Bettina,
welcome to our forum.
We’re happy to help you with individual terms, but if you want the patterns translated or have them translated, you’ll need the author’s permission.
Please keep that in mind—thanks.
I looked at the pattern and will only translate the abbreviations that appear there:
СБН = столбик без накида = single crochet приб = прибавить = increase (пиб is the same thing, it's just a typo)
уб = убавить = decrease в.п. = воздушная петля = chain stitch.
Hi Inna,
Thank you so much—you’ve already been a huge help. I hope I’ll be able to manage better now.
I’m now going to try to write down the German version (I mistakenly wrote “English version”) in understandable German. : )
Bettina
Dear moderator,
I realize that the patterns I’d like to have require the consent of the respective author.
However, there is a German version of the "***Pattern***" (not in English, as I mistakenly wrote). I don’t understand this pattern because it was simply run through a translation program. Since I don’t speak Russian and don’t know the abbreviations translated into German, I turned to this forum for help.
So, if I’m understanding the legal situation correctly, I actually wouldn’t need permission from the author, since it has already been translated—just not correctly.
Or am I wrong?
@Bettina
I’m not a lawyer, so I can’t give you legal advice.
As far as patterns on Crazypatterns are concerned, you have to ask the authors for permission before translating them.
Just because someone used a translation program doesn’t mean you’re free to use the text. Ask anyway.
Dear Bettina,
We here at Crazypatterns can’t help you with patterns outside of Crazypatterns. Please ask the original author. I’m locking this thread now.
If you find something directly in the Crazypatterns shop, that might be more convenient for you. We have free patterns as well as many SALE promotions, and the paid patterns are cheaper when bought with store credit. I wish you the best of luck.
