Buying Patterns: Do You Make Them All?

Dear users, dear authors,
As you all know, here on Crazypatterns you can buy wonderful patterns or download free patterns. I’d love to know—if you’re willing to share—how many of them you actually make. If you don’t make them, what are your reasons?

Tip: I hope you’ll take advantage of the opportunity to contact authors here on Crazypatterns via private message or email if you have any questions.

Good luck! :-)

I only ever have time for my hobby in the evenings anyway (and not even every day), and I’m so busy with my own designs that I hardly ever get around to making anything else.

That’s why I only buy patterns when I plan to start the project right away.

So far, that’s worked out pretty well :)

I do the same as Tina. Only with free patterns do I sometimes download one just to look at it.

Hi,

I have a lot of patterns that I’ve bought but haven’t made (yet).

Most of the time, something else comes up, so I end up putting the pattern
aside again, and by the time I get around to it, I don’t really feel like it anymore and would rather do something
else.

Best regards, Heike

I’m completely undisciplined and excessive—I’ve bought endless patterns that are still waiting to be made. For some of them, I’ve already bought yarn; those have low numbers and will be next in line. ;-) So far, though, there hasn’t been a single pattern I don’t want to keep. I’ll get to them all eventually—I’ll just have to live to be 100, at least...

Okay, I've thought it over:
How about an honorary title for people who rescue lots of these neglected patterns (bought, but never made, not even started) from their misery and finally make them?

How about this?
--> Honorary title: Wallflower Rescuer? One "rescue" per month is enough for the title. The more, the better.
The poor patterns are surely terribly sad or something like that. ;- )

--> You don't have to spend any money for this, because the patterns have already been paid for, so I personally wouldn't have any problem with this campaign. Anyone who likes can also make downloaded free patterns. It's really just about tackling previously untouched patterns (free or paid).

Opinions? Wishes?
Tell me what you think.

Good morning,

I took the time to check how many patterns I have and how many I’ve actually made.
Oh my goodness, is all I can say.

I have:

194 purchased patterns, 61 of which I’ve made (some more than once)
49 free patterns, 11 of which I’ve made (again, some more than once)

I think the “Wallflower Rescue” campaign is great—I’d definitely join in.
That way, even the “forgotten” patterns would finally get used.

Best regards, Heike

Hahaha, Heike, I still have about 80 purchased patterns left to work on, and about 20 free ones. But at least I have a “plan” for quite a few of them.

How long is the “waiting period” for the “rescuer title”?

Enough time sitting around for a “neglected pattern” = anything beyond buying it and making it right away. As soon as a PDF pattern is left sitting around, it counts as a “neglected pattern.” I assume quite a few “neglected patterns” have been sitting around for ages.

--> There are extra points for “very old” neglected patterns.
How about making your oldest neglected pattern first in May?

It would be great if you could also write feedback to the relevant author and, if applicable, let them know whether there were any problems with the process, etc.

Hey, that's great. In May I'll make my oldest wallflower pattern, and the
great thing about it is:

I have the yarn at home for it and don't have to buy anything GREAT.

The author of my first pattern is no longer with CP :D

Ah, I'm working as a rescuer right now. Does that count for April already?

@mifas, every rescue counts, even one from April.
Just add it over there in the final stretch thread.

I hope I’m still in the right thread. I also took the time to count the patterns I’ve bought. Oh my gosh, that’s really shocking:

of the 226 patterns I’ve bought (yes, that many), I’ve only finished crocheting 34
and I have 8 UFOs

I have 54 free patterns, and I’ve only crocheted 6 of those.

Otherwise, my motto is: get them first, I’ll find time to crochet somehow. I also only ever get around to it in the evenings. Then something else often comes up, and before you know it, it gets put aside.
There really are some incredibly cute patterns, too.

I still have yarn for my older “Wallflower,” so I wouldn’t need to buy any extra, and it’s a small crochet project, so maybe I can finish it in May before my vacation. So I’d be in.

7Well, I think I’d definitely deserve the title of “Excess”: Out of 438 (!!!) patterns I’ve bought, I’ve completed at least 138 and started about a dozen! Of the 126 free patterns, I’ve only used 6 so far!

My oldest neglected project? The little dragon. I could crochet that sometime just for fun, just like that. Otherwise, of course, there are plenty of candidates on my immediate to-do list, so I’ll definitely be applying for the title! I have the materials for most of these projects, even though I’ve had to restock a bit recently.

Additional note: I’ve made some patterns more than once—for example, I’ve definitely crocheted a dozen nets in total and just as many Easter baskets in all sorts of shapes.

How are your patterns doing?

Of the 40 patterns I’ve purchased so far, I’ve completed 23 (some more than once), started 5 and then abandoned them, and with two, it turned out they used an incredible amount of yarn—resulting in very heavy finished projects. And with one, I wasn’t very happy with the instructions; even the author couldn’t help me with that one. As for the ones I started, I didn’t like them as much in person as I did in the description.

I’ve also downloaded a few for free—partly out of curiosity about the author’s writing style—and I’ve completed some of them, but not all. Often, I just don’t have the right yarn on hand, or after taking a closer look or giving it some time, I simply don’t like the pattern anymore. I do try to complete
at least the majority of them, though. I don’t know if that’ll ever be possible… after all, I also have a lot of my own ideas that I’d like to bring to life. But right now, I just don’t feel like doing any of it.

Since I’m not really doing any crafts right now, I decided to take a look.

Browsing and writing are always possible. So, I have 97 purchased patterns, and I’ve actually made 32 of them—some even multiple times. I have 4 sitting around as UFOs.

I have over 150 free patterns, but I’ve only made 15 of them so far.
Whether I’ll ever get to all of them is still up in the air, but as we all know, it’s always good to be prepared.
