Dear users, dear authors,
it’s time for UFO Week. The Leftover Yarn Stars, Yarn Diet (April only ), final round for world domination (Yarn Diet since January ), etc. projects are now almost finished too.

So that I can hold the awards ceremony properly on April 30, I need your help.

Please copy the paragraph between the asterisks into your post and answer the questions so it doesn’t get completely jumbled.
Anything that doesn’t apply, you can delete.

Awards Ceremony

It was wonderful. It’s lovely that the monthly projects have now become a tradition.
Many wonderful handmade items were created, and there are many titles to award as well.
Here we go, this time alphabetically.

Arni has become a Leftover Yarn Star. Congratulations. The leftover yarn was turned into clothing and toys for Anton. That was definitely worth using up. In addition, Arni is in the final round for world domination because she has not bought any yarn since December 2017. Admirable. :- ) If you keep at the Yarn Diet, that will earn extra points by the end of June. :- ) You can do it.

CarosverrueckteHaekelwelt finished several UFOs, the Halata shawl and baby sneakers, and has truly earned the title UFO Queen. She also worked on other projects, but they are not quite finished yet. Since she has not bought any yarn since mid-December 2017, she is Yarn Empress in April and of course in the final round for world domination. Keep at it and overcome your inner couch potato.

ChristinaE. made wonderful designs from her colorful leftover yarn and has truly earned the title Leftover Yarn Star. She was busy and finished more items. The title UFO Queen will be awarded to her again in May. :- ) The hippo comforter turned out wonderfully. She also learned something new: left Tunisian knit stitch and star stitch . It was a successful April. :- ) And there were even two mini UFOs / owls made from yarn scraps. Congratulations on the title UFO Queen. There was also a Tunisian-crocheted dishcloth.

Haekeltrulla has been abstinent since January 1, 2018 and has not bought any more yarn, instead using up yarn from her stash. That deserves applause. Congratulations on the final round for world domination, on the title Yarn Emperor/Empress for April, and on the finished projects: stacking bear, table runner, teddy lucky bear. Haekeltrulla is also sticking with the Yarn Diet. You’ll manage it—just work through everything, and I will keep handing out titles and extra points. :- )

Iglinz understandably had neither the time nor the nerves to chase titles, but I hereby award her a medal for bravely hanging in there. Keep going, stay strong. You can do it.

Krea_Tina has truly earned the title UFO Queen with the Caluna shirt. Congratulations :- ) It’s great that you actually wear the shirt too. You are obviously in a creative phase at the moment; keep at it and make something of it. :- )

mifas finished a tunic in an eye-catching color and secured the title UFO Queen with it. It was absolutely worth it. Wow. Since the pattern had been sitting with her for quite a while and had not been made, it was also enough for the title Wallflower Rescuer. Well done.

Mowi19 has become a Leftover Yarn Star because the leftover yarn was used for a teddy sweater. Mowi19 was really brave and has not bought any yarn since December 2017 and will continue sticking with the Yarn Diet. My compliments on so much discipline. She also finished a cushion cover and a summer sweater / tunic and worked on other projects. She also learned something new, including a heart-shaped lace pattern and a two-color knitting method for a V-neck. She developed the latter herself. That is wonderful. Congratulations and many compliments.

Pe-Ka has the title Leftover Yarn Star easily in the bag with the child-friendly crocheted fruit for a fruit basket made from colorful leftover yarn. It’s a great eye-catcher. Congratulations. The crocheted breakfast butter is a nice extra. She has also earned the title UFO Queen, because she made her son very happy by crocheting his self-designed sheep (possibly from outer space? ) in neon colors. Congratulations on the title.

stjerne61 has made an impressive learning leap in tapestry crochet, waffle stitch, and Tunisian crochet. Wow. That is really impressive. At the moment I’m not quite sure yet whether she is also UFO Queen; I’ll have to keep reading first. No, it wasn’t enough for UFO Queen in April, but then in May. That will work out. She did do a lot of crafting in April, though: door wreaths were made, potholders, doilies, and there are also a few new UFOs. You need those if you want to become UFO Queen in May, after all. :- )

Wollefaden finished two UFOs, a summer top and a summer sweater, and is therefore a double UFO Queen in April. Now that’s something. :- ) Congratulations. All the leftover yarn she used has also earned her the title Leftover Yarn Star. My compliments. :- ) But we’re not done yet: Wollefaden has outdone herself this year: no yarn purchases since mid-December 2017. That means: congratulations on becoming Yarn Empress and on the final round for world domination.  Wow. Hats off to your dedication. :- )

You may now buy yarn again, unless you want to keep dieting, but only until the end of July. From August to October, we’ll be dieting again. The final round for rule over this galaxy awaits you.

@Josepha
I think the copying is great—it makes things clearer for newcomers.

I’ve learned something new:
Okay, it’s not exactly brand-new, but I’ve been working on tapestry crochet for a while now, and despite books and such, my patterns always ended up crooked. Now I’ve bought the basic course from PANIC, and things are actually getting better and better :-) It really is just a matter of paying attention to small details—I’m practicing!

I have a WIP / Details about the WIP:
Now I have a WIP in tapestry crochet, and I’m not quite sure what it’s going to be yet!?!?
That’s why I’m joining in again—it really motivates me to keep working on it.

Please also indicate whether your UFO is finished or will be finished during UFO Week.
Otherwise, I can’t award you the title of UFO Queen.

IMPORTANT
The Pentecost holidays are at the end of May.
Will you be in the mood for the monthly UFO week at the end of May?

Great idea with the copying. I’ll do that at the end of the week, though, since I’m still working on a few projects. That’s when it’ll really make sense.

The UFO is supposed to be finished during UFO Week; I still have time until April 30, right?

Yes, you have until April 30, but please make sure to write down all the information about the UFOs and all your finished projects at the end of UFO Week.

Hello,

I haven’t bought any yarn since January 1, 2018, which has earned me the title of “Yarn Empress” (yarn diet only in April), and I’m in the final round for world domination (yarn diet from at least January through April).

I worked on these projects in April: Stapelbär, table runner, Teddy-Glücksbär

Best regards, Heike

I finished one UFO / several UFOs and have thus earned the title UFO King/Queen. Details about the UFO / UFOs:

I finished (as I already wrote in the other thread :)) the Caluna shirt :)
I had posted the picture in the gallery.
It’s one of the few crocheted garments (besides shawls :)) that I actually wear.

I worked on these projects in April:

-As I said: the shirt
-One row or another of my motif blanket was completed
-I planned a wedding gift, which I’ll start today or tomorrow :)
-At the moment I’m working on a new shawl :)
-I came up with a new loop scarf. But I haven’t started yet :)

End of May:

At the moment I don’t have any UFOs (apart from the motif blanket... But maybe I’ll finish that in May 2019 :D).
Maybe I’ll quickly start something so I can leave it lying around until the end of May? ;) (or don’t cheated UFOs count?)

A UFO is a UFO.
If you start something with the goal of finishing it by the end of May, then that’s a UFO. :-)

I have  finished several UFOs and have therefore earned the title of UFO King/Queen.
1. UFO - summer sweater with short sleeves  (the photo is in the other thread.) and in the gallery
 2. UFO - summer top in light blue  ( photo is also in the other thread and in the gallery )

I used up a lot of leftover yarn and have therefore earned the title Leftover Yarn Champion.
For the blue sweater I used up another 150 g of yarn, and 250 g for the other one.

I have not bought any yarn since mid-December 2017 and have therefore won the Yarn Empress title for myself   and/or I am in the final round for world domination

I worked on these projects in April
2 UFO sweaters
Currently a loop scarf, which really should still be finished this month.

So I’m also in the UFO mood at the end of May. Especially since I just made one out of “diet” yarn (the pillow) and probably won’t finish it this week. I’ll carry that over into May.

I started a second UFO two weeks ago, and it’s still in the early stages. That might also be finished in May. It’s a new door guardian. I’m not quite sure yet what it’s going to end up being.

In any case, I’d love it if there were another thread like this in May where we can showcase our current projects and share ideas.

Of course, there’s a project thread for May, just like there was for the previous months.

It was only about UFO Week—whether enough people would be interested in it.

UFO weeks are always good, but sometimes time is a bit tight for larger projects.
If I completely unravel a half-finished shirt and then start something new, is that also a UFO?

So I’ll keep working on my UFOs in May, too. They won’t all be finished very quickly, since most of them are sweaters. But whatever—I’ll just keep going.

yes, unraveling and making something new—that counts as a UFO, too.

Alright, so this time we’ll hold UFO Week from May 22 (the Tuesday after Pentecost) through June 4 = the Monday after the end of the Pentecost break. That way, you can enjoy Pentecost, have plenty of time for everything during the Pentecost break, and can also make use of the Corpus Christi weekend (a long weekend due to the holiday). In return, though, I’d like to see lots of finished UFOs, lots of leftover yarn used up, and lots of completed garden projects so I can hand out plenty of titles. :-)

Well then, I’ll go ahead and claim the title of Reste-Beste.

I’ve used up a lot of leftover yarn and earned myself the title of Reste-Beste.
Details on the leftover yarn projects: I have a before-and-after photo of the fruit basket I crocheted from leftover yarn for my friend’s daughter’s birthday.
We’re celebrating next week—I’m curious to see if I’ll get any follow-up orders. I certainly have enough leftover yarn.

Tomorrow I’ll fish the UFO out from behind the couch. It just still needs one horn and sewing together.

Thanks, Tina.

The little doll mum wanted her dolls to eat the same things she does. That’s why she also ordered some butter so that buttered bread could be served for breakfast—for anyone wondering what kind of fruit that chunk in the middle is supposed to be.
The colors don’t come out as well in the photo, but in real life they’re very close to the original.

I have a UFO:
It will stay a UFO for now, too; I won’t manage it by April 30, maybe in the next event, so I’m out :-/

I worked on these projects in April:
  • various door wreaths
  • potholders
  • doilies
  • cat basket (this is also a UFO)

I learned something new:
  • waffle stitch
  • various Tunisian crochet patterns
  • tapestry (without the patterns becoming slanted

Dagmar, your fruit looks great! I’m sure the doll’s mommy is really happy about it. :-)

My pillowcase probably won’t be a UFO after all. It’s all knitted up (from “diet” yarn, of course) and just needs to be sewn together. Hopefully I’ll get that done by the end of the week.

The baby pants—also made from “diet” yarn—still need a little work... might end up being a UFO for May.

I’m just itching to start something new at the same time.

Oh yes, and yesterday I already had a look at what yarn I could use ... dreamy sigh. :-)
There are sooo many great colors of my favorite yarn. But of course I stayed strong and didn’t buy ANYTHING!

But I’m really looking forward to that next week. That’s when I’ll really go all out. I can already feel the yarn when it arrives ... simply heavenly!

I wish you all a wonderful day!

Now I’m going to get back to working on my patterns. They’re kind of like pattern UFOs, since they’ve been started but not yet finished.

I’ve used up a lot of leftover yarn, earning myself the title “Leftover Queen.”
Details on the leftover yarn projects:
brown-and-white hat for Anton
brown-and-white crinkle car
sailboat jacket for Anton
(the photos are in the other thread)

Pink and light pink are also completely used up.

I haven’t bought any yarn since December—I’m in the final stretch for world domination (yarn diet from at least January through April). I’m going to keep up the diet; the next goal is the end of June :-)

The next project with leftover yarn will be a bit bigger—I’m done with April

Arni, you’ve really been working hard. That’s such a cute little creature you crocheted there. What is it?

Wow, you’re sticking with the yarn diet until June? I admire you!
I’m already eagerly checking the sales and waiting for the moment when I can reorder. Going almost 5 months without buying any yarn—that’s quite an achievement, and one I’m proud of, too.

But I have to say… I actually still have enough stash to whip up quite a few things. However, I’d like to knit another tunic, and I definitely don’t have any yarn in my favorite colors for that.

I’m really torn… but I’ll easily make it through April.

It’s a little one-eyed monster. :-)

The addiction to buying yarn has given way, for now, to the addiction to showing off here :-) .

It’s so much fun to rummage through my stash and then think about what I can conjure up with it.

And then sharing the result with you.

Right now I’m crocheting a dress for the Schlagermove.... It’s going to be really colorful :-))) but also a bit more elaborate. I’m curious to see how it turns out.

I’ve also stayed strong so far and haven’t bought ANY yarn, even though I’ve
often had some in my hands. But then I reminded myself of my stash, and just like
that, the urge to buy disappeared.

It’s just so nice to see how the stash is shrinking and, above all, what you
can conjure up from it.

So far, I’ve been able to create every single project using just my stash.

So: That means I’m still in the running for “World Domination of the Yarn Diet.”

I’m definitely going to stick with my diet—let’s see how far I get.
I’ll definitely be able to make my next projects with “diet yarn.”

Right now I’m working on a weather frog, which I’m also making entirely from “diet yarn.”
I finished the table runner for my friend yesterday.

Next, I’d like to crochet a vest and a bag—unless something
else comes up. Somehow, ever since February, something ALWAYS comes up.

Love, Heike

Arni and Heike, you motivate me tremendously! :-)

The desire to keep using up yarn-diet yarn and make big gaps in my stash boxes has actually grown stronger than the desire to buy new yarn. So I’ll wait a little longer before shopping. Because I already have quite a few ideas for what I can conjure up from my leftover yarn. They’ll mainly be smaller things, for example bear and doll clothes and something for the baby. I’ll just let my ideas come to me.

My current status is that the baby pants will carry over into May as a UFO—unfortunately. I just can’t manage it, since I don’t have time on the weekend and won’t get to it before then.

What I definitely still want to finish crocheting together is the domino cushion. I’ll post a photo when it’s finished.

Here is my status for the awards ceremony now (photos are in the other thread or will follow by Friday evening):

-------------------------------

I didn’t have any UFOs—that will come in May.

I used up a few leftover yarns and earned the title Leftover Champion with that (if that counts).
Details about the leftover yarn projects:
  • Started a teddy sweater (photo will follow on Friday evening)

I haven’t bought any yarn since December and am in the final round for world domination. I’d also like to extend that until the end of May.

I worked on these projects in April:
  • Knitted a cushion cover in a mix of patterns (finished on Friday)
  • Knitted a summer sweater or tunic for myself (finished)
  • Started knitting baby pants (UFO for May)

I learned something new:
  • I tried out several new patterns, including a new heart-shaped lace pattern, and used them in my current projects.
  • I developed and calculated a two-color knitting method for a V-neck that was new to me. The learning process required unraveling twice before it fit. (I’m such a “learning by doing” type.)

Josefa, you can note that down as my final status.

Wishing you all a fantastic and creative day!

Best, Monika

Today I took advantage of the beautiful day on the balcony and finally crocheted the pillow together. So it’s completely finished using “diet” yarn. Honestly, without this thread, it probably would have sat there until fall. Unfortunately, there’s still one small thing missing to finish it completely: the buttons. My stash doesn’t have any in the size I like. So that’ll have to wait until May.

Does that mean it’s turned into a UFO after all, just because the buttons are missing?

Here’s the finished knitted pillow, crocheted together, from both sides. I’m planning to add some natural-colored or white buttons to one side.

And here’s the raglan sweater I’ve started for my baby sleep teddy in light yellow and light purple. I’ll probably have it finished by Monday.

So, I was hard at work last night and finished knitting the teddy bear sweater completely. So it’s not a UFO, but a completed project made from leftover yarn (for “Reste-Beste”).

Josefa, everything else can stay as is.

Here’s the sweater with and without the sleepy bear and in different ways to wear it (e.g., turned-down collar):

And here’s a comparison with last month’s sweater. I’ll include both versions in the pattern.

And two more little things made from leftover yarn!

The snuggle blanket should be finished today (this isn’t a leftover-yarn project)

I also finished the UFO last night. I had to make a few changes to ensure the future owner is happy and so that the little creature closely resembles the drawing.

I finished a UFO and have thus earned the title of “UFO royalty.” Details about the UFO:
Unfortunately, I can’t find the “before” photo anymore. I hope it still counts. My son is definitely thrilled, and the sheep thing is now sitting on the salt rock lamp next to his bed.

Thanks, Monika. I’ll pass it on to my son.
He drew it, and I’m not sure whether it really is a sheep. The neon colors in particular are really intense. You can’t really tell from the photo.

My daughter now can’t wait for me to crochet her fantasy animal too. Since she picked out lots of leftover yarn for it, I’ll make it in May right away for the “Reste-Beste” title.

I don’t think I can thank Josefa enough for these challenges. In the past, things like this used to take me a year: I’d start them and then leave them lying around somewhere. Now I always have a deadline. It has to be finished by the end of the month.
And if it really doesn’t work out in that month, then definitely by the next month, but then without any excuses and without putting it off.

Yeah, I’ll jump right in with my thanks. I feel exactly the same way as Pe-Ka. A few projects would have fallen by the wayside, and most importantly, I probably wouldn’t have come up with the idea to go on a “yarn diet” and finally work through my scraps and stash. I love these challenges and am, of course, happy to keep going! :-)

Pe-Ka, I’m really looking forward to your next creative project. Your kids are such great sources of inspiration. ;-)

I didn’t finish knitting the teddy bear pants I’d started yesterday. I’ll show them off in May as part of my “using up leftovers” series.

I’m also continuing with the “yarn diet” in May—for now—because I still have so many colorful cotton scraps, which I’m using to partially dress my teddy bears and, with the larger scraps, to design baby clothes.

I’m totally surprised and thrilled by what’s happened here. I was only away for a few days and had to read through everything first.

Yes, I’m totally thrilled with what’s happened here. And I’m already looking forward to May. I even finished my first project today using leftover and “diet” yarn. I’ll post a photo tomorrow in the May thread. It’s a pair of pants for my favorite teddy bear. He looks sooo cute in them. :-)

On vacation starting in mid-May, I’ll take one of the patterns I bought with me and finally crochet it. So that’ll also be a break from writing patterns. Of course, no break from using up my leftover yarn, and I’ll keep up with the diet, too. I’m really enjoying this right now.

Well, and then there’s that yarn I don’t like…

What could I possibly make out of such thick, cozy yarn? I can’t think of anything right now (I just don’t like it—it was Springwolle… oh well).

Done! The Tunisian crochet dishcloth—actually almost too good to use, I think!—has just been finished. (Project No. 42 this year)
Now I’m tackling the May projects with renewed energy, and I don’t even know where to start!

mowi, I’m looking forward to the pants for your favorite teddy bear—I’m sure there’ll be a pattern for them too!

Yes, of course, Christina, there definitely is. And it’s super easy to knit. By the way, I knitted it so that his little tail sticks out. It looks sooo cute. Now he gets even more cuddles than before. :-)

So this is, in a way, my first project for May. I’ll post a photo later today. I promise.

Have a lovely day, everyone, and lots of ideas!
I’m looking forward to the awards ceremony. :-)

Where is mifas?
She wasn't finished yet.
Are you finished now?

I’ve been finished for ages (well, sort of), but I’m totally annoyed because of the photo! The blue looks more gray. I photographed it about 100 times yesterday and then put it off until today. But it’s not any better today either, sorry. The blue is called bellflower, and it’s actually just as bright as that *sob*

So, here’s my tunic, half wallflower, half UFO. I’ve had the pattern since December, then started it in February, then urgent things came up and I had to put it aside; in April it was finished. I’m happy with it (just not with the photo).

Michaela, your tunic looks great, and it’s showing up a beautiful blue on my screen, too. Everything’s fine. :-) We’re not having a contest here to see who has the prettiest piece. It’s all about the joy of participating.

So just stay relaxed... :-)

Ah, thanks, Monika—in the photo, she looks much bluer here on the laptop than on the smartphone. That’s pretty close ;-) Of course, this isn’t a competition, but a good photo is always better than a mediocre one :-)

I also think the tunic is really chic.

Oops—Sandra, are you Arni? Is that your real name?

Yeah. ArnI comes from all the muscles I have :-)))))))

Just kidding—it’s an abbreviation of my maiden name.

Okay, ladies, I’ve gone through the thread now.
Please read through the award ceremony above in the first post and tell me what’s missing.

@Iglinz,
I’ve awarded you a Medal of Bravery up there. You’ve earned it. Take care of yourself.

So what are you going to do with world domination now?
Do you have any plans yet?

Josefa, I’ve got a huge grin on my face. I just read through your award ceremony announcement for all the participants. You wrote that so well again! Thank you so much for your work!

Funnily enough, I noticed that Haekeltrulla “sold” some yarn? Do you really mean that? Or did she use up the yarn.... grin?

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

Monika

Anyone who finds a mistake can keep it, use it themselves, or even sell it.
Whatever you prefer. :-)

Hi Josefa

You did a fantastic job with the awards ceremony once again.

I’m really proud and so happy. Without all of you, I wouldn’t have managed to create so many pieces—it really motivates me.

I’m definitely going to stick with my UFOs and keep up my yarn diet for even longer. (I still have so many left—grin....)

Heartfelt congratulations to everyone who participated here. You’ve knitted and crocheted such amazing things.

On to the next round!

Hi everyone!
Congratulations to all of you. You’ve made such amazing things!!!

Things are already getting out of hand for me again. I really wanted to participate, but then the partner of my very best friend (who is really more like a sister in spirit) was admitted to the hospital. She needed support. It was a rollercoaster of emotions until things got serious. He didn’t tell anyone what was going on, and she buried her head in the sand. When I saw which ward he was placed in, I knew it would be a long and painful journey.
Well, and then things turned out completely differently. On Wednesday we visited him, and he even walked us all the way to the exit. Early Friday morning, he passed away. We were completely taken aback.
There wasn’t much we could do because the two of them weren’t married.
Now the children are inheriting everything, and my friend will soon be out on the street.

Well, I did manage to do a little crocheting these past few days—or rather, some mending.
You may have seen the sunflower and the bouquet of tulips in the gallery. Both were broken by the “dear” grandchildren. Neither the parents nor the grandmother (who, as his ex-wife, invited herself over for coffee with us) seemed bothered by it. My friend didn’t dare say much, for fear of getting kicked out even sooner.
She had tears in her eyes when she saw the wreckage. The tulips are fixed, and I’m working on the sunflower.

Now I’m just hoping that my (ex-)husband’s 30 radiation treatments go well and that the next big blow isn’t waiting for me.
Best regards, Marlies

Marlies, you have my sympathy... I hope everything turns out well for you all.

I also want to thank all of you who participated here. Because without this mutual encouragement, I wouldn’t have gotten as much done. It’s just so much more fun together.

I probably won’t get as much done in May as I did in previous months. Since I run commercial websites, I’m currently fully occupied with implementing the new data protection regulation everywhere—I even bought a special course for it. It’s a pain in the neck and not exactly fun. Since we’re going on vacation on the 13th, everything has to be taken care of before then. But while on vacation, I’ll use the time to knit and crochet as often as I can. I’m really looking forward to that.

So I’ll definitely get a little bit done in May, too. One UFO is waiting to land—namely, my pillow, for which I got the buttons today. I’m definitely going to finish that this month. ;-)

@ Marlies

That all sounds pretty rough :-(
When things happen, they tend to come all at once—I know that feeling too.
Don’t let it get you down (I know it’s easier said than done) and hope for better times; I hope that things will look up again soon for you and your friend. Fingers crossed, fingers crossed, fingers crossed .......

Dear Marlies

I wrote yesterday already, but apparently it wasn't sent after all! Yes, this is a difficult situation, and I wish you and your friend all the best, lots of strength and courage, and I hope that brighter days will come again soon!

Warm regards

Christina

Oh Marlies, that’s really terrible. Didn’t he make any provisions just in case?
I wish you both lots of strength and success in organizing things and getting through this situation. All the best to your ex-husband, too.

I’m just seeing this now. Dear Josefa, thank you for the medal! And congratulations to everyone else on your
titles!
And Marlies, I’m sending you a big hug. I know you’ll get through this, but maybe it’ll be a little easier with some good wishes along the way.

no, unfortunately, all we ever heard was "we need to do something about that."

Thank you for your good wishes, your sympathy, and also for the tight hug.
That really helps a lot.

Kind regards, Marlies
