For me, the fun lies in the fascination of creating something unique and beautiful from a simple strand of yarn.
It makes me happy when I can breathe life into figures and finish unique pieces of clothing. It’s especially wonderful to let others share in these little things by writing patterns.
I really enjoy watching a little bear or something similar take shape.
And especially when I see the sparkle in
my kids’ eyes when they ask for something and I crochet it for them.
That makes crocheting twice as much fun.
For me, it’s also the fascination of turning some material (in my case, mostly wool) into something special.
Even as a child, I could already crochet very neatly—I made simple stuffed animals, headbands, bags, and more. But I always worked only in single crochet and in rows. At times, I even developed my own techniques to bring my ideas to life. (I think I even “invented” something like half double crochet once :D)
I’d always wanted to have a handmade teddy bear. But it never occurred to me that I could crochet that shape too, with all those curves... Since no one else in my family knows how to crochet, no one showed me, and unfortunately it never occurred to me to look for books either...
But I’m getting sidetracked.
When I happened to see amigurumi online in my early 20s, I was totally thrilled! So I dashed out on that Sunday when the stores were open (what a lovely coincidence :)) and bought some yarn, stuffing, and hooks.
I was as proud as can be when my first amigurumi was finished, and the second one followed right away.
Even now, I’m as happy as a little kid about every finished scarf, every little animal, every doily...
It makes you feel like a creator :D
And it’s especially nice when you see that others also enjoy my handmade creations.
I really enjoy bringing my own ideas to life and trying new things. Designing is actually a creative process that has to mature inside me first. The actual making then goes pretty quickly. And usually, right in the middle of it, I already have a new project calling out to me. :-)
I often wake up in the morning already thinking excitedly about what I’ll design next. These days, I always need a pen and a notepad nearby so I can jot down my ideas right away.
For me, the little details are what make it especially fun. Sometimes they’re appliqués, sometimes different stitch patterns, or little details I incorporate.
Something that just came to mind and that I find kind of funny... A year ago, when I started here, I still thought I didn’t have too little time for knitting and crocheting and that my shop would grow only very slowly. Now I amaze myself. Especially through the leftover yarn/UFO/yarn diet thread, I’ve really gotten into the swing of things. I use every free minute to knit or crochet. A day without yarn - that’s just not possible anymore.
And that really fills me with joy all over again! :-)
For me, the fun of crafting is simply creating something that no one else has. To me, every handmade item is one-of-a-kind and special, and sometimes the most amazing things come about completely by accident.
It relaxes me, which is why I really enjoy buying a pattern every now and then and working through it at my own pace ;-)
I also like the challenge of trying new things when crocheting, but it can be frustrating when it just doesn’t work out.
Since I suddenly had a lot of free time, crocheting has become a great hobby for me.
I always have fun when I’m crafting—otherwise, I wouldn’t do it. It’s such a great way to unwind and watch a crocheted figure come to life. I take pleasure in it when I’ve done a good job, and I’m also happy when I can bring joy to others with my creations.
You can let your imagination run wild and play around with whatever colors you feel like using.
I enjoy crafting and needlework the most when I can design something myself, because it’s wonderful to see how something from my imagination becomes a tangible object I can “touch.” There’s something very creative about that. Sometimes, though, it can also be exhausting, especially when something doesn’t turn out exactly the way I imagine it.
That’s why I also like to follow other people’s patterns every now and then—because then I don’t have to think. It’s something I can do on the side, and it’s pure relaxation.
