How about a “holiday hat” like this?

Crochet pattern for hat/beanie (m/f) with little cables

(To purchase/download, please click the image)

This pretty crochet hat/beanie – designed for head circumference sizes from 52 cm to approx. 60 cm – for men as well as women and children, gets a nice structure from the mini cables, so it can be worn in many different ways, including as a hat.

The PDF pattern includes

  • information on various alternative yarns
  • short pattern (for printing)
  • plenty of illustrated, detailed crochet instructions
  • link tips, including for learning to crochet
Crochet skills - these stitches are used: chain stitches, slip stitches (explained), half double crochet, double crochet, front and back post double crochet (illustrated).

Required materials:
recommended 150 g (for me exactly 100 g was enough – only a leftover thread of 30 cm remained) Adriafil Tabata, 100% wool, 50 g – 75 m, according to the label for hook size 7.0, but differing from the label information, hook sizes 6.5 and 9.0 were used here; stitch marker.

For everyone who wants to use yarn that doesn't exactly match the pattern:

Conversion table for yarn quantity, alternative yarn for knitting and crochet

(To purchase/download, please click the image)

This is an Excel spreadsheet for automatically converting a yarn quantity from the "original yarn" to an "alternative yarn" of your choice.

Example:
The original yarn specified in your pattern has a yardage of 85 m per 50 g. According to the instructions there, you need 600 g of this "original yarn" for your size. But you would like to make your piece in a different yarn (= alternative yarn). This yarn you have chosen has a yardage of 70 m per 50 g ball. You enter this information into the Excel spreadsheet and immediately receive the required quantity of your preferred yarn in balls and grams.

A gauge is always advisable. To determine the number of stitches needed for your individual knitted piece, the simple version of my Excel conversion table for your gauge is included as a bonus.

Technical note:
To open an Excel spreadsheet, a so-called spreadsheet program such as Excel, LibreOffice (available free of charge at http://de.libreoffice.org/) or OpenOffice (available free of charge at http://www.openoffice.org/de/) must be installed. Open the file with a double-click and, if the message "Protected View" appears, please click "Enable Editing"

Good luck with all your projects and happy holidays.

The weather is supposed to stay nasty over the holidays.
How about a knitting pattern for a warm scarf?

The pattern is fairly simple, just knit and purl stitches. The increases at the beginning and the decreases at the end of the scarf are described very precisely in the pattern. There is a knitting chart, and the pattern is also explained row by row.

Here is the pattern

Baby and Kids’ Fox Hat Crochet Pattern
Click here to go directly to the crochet pattern

This adorable fox hat for babies and kids is a real showstopper and immediately catches the eye. It keeps the ears and head nice and warm and is simply cute. Whether for a daily walk or a photo shoot, the hat always looks great and also makes an excellent gift. 12-page crochet pattern including pictures. Difficulty level: easy to medium; you should already have some experience and know how to do the following: half double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch, increasing and decreasing half double crochets, decreasing stitches, crocheting in closed rounds (slip stitches) and in spiral rounds, post double crochet (relief double crochet with half double crochet). The pattern includes a size chart, ranging from infants to 14-year-olds. This allows you to customize the hat for your child. What you’ll need:
  • Approx. 80g of yarn with a length of at least 50m—preferably more. I used approx. 80g of orange yarn and 20g of white yarn, both suitable for a 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Thin threads in white and black
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Darning needle, scissors, sewing needle
  • Felt “leaves,” e.g., in DIN A4 size, in orange, white, and black
  • 2 buttons for the eyes (pupils)

Many people have plenty of time over the holidays to finally make themselves cozy at home. Maybe the Christkind brought a little yarn, too. Something you can knit relaxedly with the family without losing the thread in the pattern is this stole. A simple brioche stitch that looks great in gradient yarns.

You can find the pattern here.

The kids aren’t letting the lousy weather get them down and want to take their new sled out during Christmas break? They’ll need a warm hat!
It comes in various sizes (so it’s suitable for parents, too). The stylish checkered pattern is knitted right in and is sure to turn heads on the sledding hill. A knitting chart helps with the project.

You can find the pattern here.

When you put away your Christmas decorations in January, it’s still too early for spring decorations. You still need something wintry, but not too Christmassy. How about these cute little snowflakes?
The little dresses are made of white fluffy wool and silver glitter yarn. The arms and legs are made movable with chenille wire inside. Mohair wool or doll’s wool works well for the hair. The head and hands are made of Catania in the color soft apricot.
So, what do you think? You can find the pattern here!

Maybe Santa brought your daughters or granddaughters a new Barbie. It would be lovely if you knitted a pretty cardigan for the new family member from a few grams of sock yarn. After all the Christmas hustle and bustle, you can relax wonderfully with this little piece of handiwork. It only takes a few grams of sock yarn and a size 2 set of double-pointed needles, which you’re sure to have in your stash. Here’s how it works ... Knitting pattern for a cardigan and hat.

Best wishes and Ina wishes you a wonderful Christmas

If you prefer crochet, you can of course crochet a beautiful set with a skirt, top, and bolero for the new Barbie too. It’s very easy and lots of fun. It’s a wonderful way to relax over the Christmas holidays—and your children will enjoy your creations.

I wish you lots of fun with this project—yours, Ina

A lovely project for the holidays is this crochet pattern for a beautiful shawl.

The 9-page pattern features the design as a crochet chart and is also explained in writing, row by row.

This shawl can be made with either a summer yarn or a warm yarn for winter.

After the holidays, the Christmas decorations will gradually be replaced with winter decorations. If you’re still missing a few snowflakes for that, I might have something suitable here.

These snowflakes are cut out of photo cardstock and are quite large (approx. 30 cm in diameter), so they can be used not only as window decorations but also as doilies. If you like cutting with a craft knife, you won’t have any trouble with these snowflakes.
