Fashion and trends in baby clothing and baby toys

Hi everyone,
Yesterday in the thread about warm winter clothes, we were talking about baby clothes and baby boots with owls on them.
I’d love to know if baby clothes—just like clothes for women, men, and kids—are also subject to fashion trends?
I mean, things like onesies, baby shoes and socks, shirts, and all that—you always need those.
But surely current colors and designs are incorporated into baby clothing too? Owls, of course—they’re everywhere.
Does anyone here keep track of trends in the baby sector?
I mean, the fact that baby boots are now called “baby booties” isn’t exactly new—it’s just a trendy term right now.

But I would’ve actually thought that, especially in the baby sector, there are things that somehow always stay the same.
Soft and delicate fabrics, skin-friendly materials, lots of cotton, no synthetics, and all that. That doesn’t really change, does it?

It would be really nice if someone might want to say something about it. Baby clothes are very popular for crocheting and knitting.

Or are there actually trends in baby toys, too?
Are there things that aren’t part of the usual repertoire, but are somehow new additions? Like completely new baby toys that didn’t exist before?
Or is it always just the same toys but in new colors and shapes?

I’m afraid I can’t tell you—I don’t have a baby around here that I could knit for.

The tried-and-true “cute” trend is still very much in style, isn’t it? ;-)

Well, I would’ve thought that baby items would spark more interest among readers. I mean, baby items are always in demand, so I figured we could explore this topic further here in the forum—including any trends in that area, if there are any. But since I’m not really familiar with it, I just wanted to ask what you all think. Apparently, though, it’s not really your thing.

I don’t quite understand that, though, because there are so many cute baby items in the shop. Thanks anyway for the replies here in the thread. It’s nice that you’re reading my post and saying something nice about it. : )

What about kids’ clothing, by the way—are there the same trends as with adult clothing, or is it more influenced by movie characters and the like? Are those tunics for kids still in style, worn over leggings or something like that? I think I remember noticing a few of them in the shop while I was browsing—I wasn’t actually there specifically for kids’ clothes.

Maybe there’s a lot you could sew for the summer? That would fit right in with the thread on sewing projects for beginners that I started there last week. ;)
But little dresses like that, for example—they should actually be pretty easy to sew, right? I mean simple little dresses, not anything too complicated.

Crocheted and knitted items aren’t really a hit in the summer, unless you use lighter yarn. But I’m not sure if, say, lace yarn is the right choice for kids? You don’t want them to get caught on something while playing or anything like that. From what I’ve gathered, lace yarn is pretty delicate, right?

Is it still the case that baby and kids’ clothes are strictly divided into pink for girls and blue for boys, or are there some overlaps or even neutral colors? Is there still a gender divide when it comes to designs? Or are yellow or green considered neutral colors?
Cute stuff for girls and pirates for boys? I mean, that’s cute, but maybe the girl would actually prefer a pirate and the boy would prefer a kitten? Well, we won’t be solving that problem today. ; ) I just think kids should be the ones to choose, or at least we should let them choose, instead of forcing them into the typical “girls” or “boys” mold. But I’m pretty sure there are other opinions on this, and it doesn’t really have anything to do with clothing anyway.

HI
I think baby toys are great—rattles, snuggle cloths :)  you get to enjoy them for longer, too

Baby clothes—even if they’re super cute—they outgrow them way too quickly

Size 50 for a maximum of 2 months, size 56 also at most until the 4th month

so especially the sizes in the first year are hardly worn, so the question is whether it’s worth the work to crochet proper sets

Best, Nicole

There’s a huge market for secondhand baby clothes, precisely because little ones grow so fast.
Couldn’t you also sell DIY baby clothes secondhand, or do people tend to get attached to them and want to keep them?

You can’t recoup the emotional value or the material value through secondhand sales—unfortunately, the customer mindset in this sector is more geared toward “getting things for free.” Sometimes even €4 for an almost-new S.Oiver shirt is too expensive. My friend owns a store, and she says it’s getting worse every year.

And you don’t want to sell a handmade jacket for just 3€… you’re just too attached to it.
