Dear all, I’ve been reading along here for quite a while now. My question for you today: Which crafts—or “items,” if I may call them that—are generating the most interest? Given the current temperatures, I’d imagine that winter clothing is probably in high demand. Can you confirm that, or are amigurumi or baby clothes still the big hits? I’m only active on this forum and don’t participate in any other craft forums, which is why I’m not very familiar with this topic. I’d just like to know what the DIY community is particularly into right now. I have no business interests in this area, so this isn’t market research—it’s just a question because I’d like to know if there are any general trends regarding the community’s current preferences.
Sunny Christmas greetings
Sidney
oh yes, cowls are totally on trend. I feel a bit like an outsider with my old favorite scarf, but with cowls, when you have to pull them over your head and maybe you're wearing a hair clip and the cowl gets caught, that's not a good idea either. --> just stop wearing hair clips :-)
and no earrings anymore either.
Earrings combined with scarves and cowls are somehow not a good idea if they’re longer. I’ve heard hoops are supposed to be good for that, because they’re closed and all. Then nothing gets caught anymore. And not with tiny studs either. Ages ago I once had beautiful earrings shaped like anchors, as in ship anchors. I absolutely loved those things; they were just costume jewelry from BijouBigitte, but still. Unfortunately, they had one of those stupid hook/curved clasps, no idea what you call it. They kept sliding up and through and then getting caught on everything—in my hair, in my clothes, and everywhere else too. After I got snagged often enough, I put them away.
What’s also annoying in winter, with scarves, cowls, and hats, is your hair getting statically charged. Makes a lovely crackling sound. Well. It’s not winter all year round. ;)
For me, it’s not so much about the “what” as it is about the “how.” I’d like to do something in the evenings after work that has nothing to do with work. Something you can do while watching TV, something where you can chat with others at the same time. You had a poll on Facebook before Christmas, and I totally agree with most of the answers posted there to the question “What crafting means to me.”
I’m not on Facebook.
I just do things on a whim or when I see something I really like. It doesn’t matter if it’s knitted or crocheted, but it should be something I can do while watching TV.
In the mornings I take care of the housework, then I usually try out patterns or make cards; in the afternoons I’m on the computer, and in the evenings I knit.
Oh, and in between, I go shopping twice a week and take care of an elderly lady who lives about 17 km away.
