Community & Help
Dear community,
What has been your experience with yarn for knitting and crochet beginners? What can you recommend, and what would you rather not recommend?
Since a beginner needs to be able to see what they’re doing, I recommend a thick cotton yarn in a light color that can be worked with size 4 or 5 crochet hooks or knitting needles. The yarn shouldn’t split, so that you always catch the entire strand when inserting the hook.
It shouldn’t be dark yarn, because you can’t see the stitches very well. And it shouldn’t be fuzzy yarn, because you can’t see the stitches very well there either.
Best regards, Ina
I couldn’t agree more with Ina. The yarn should be thick enough so that beginners can see what they’re doing.
The yarn shouldn’t be too fuzzy or fibrous, and a light color also helps make the stitches easier to see, making it easier to work with.
Over the past few days, I’ve been practicing crocheting and knitting with my grandchildren. These observations proved to be very useful.
Best regards
Claudia
